I have never had a good memory. To this day it’s a bit wonky, specifically with recalling past things in order, if at all. A lot of my thinking process can still happen thanks to the iPad, which really has become my pseudo brain. Most people have come to at least accept it when I whip it out and start typing down shorthand notes about whatever we are talking about.

Now I have been at this for a few months now, and it really has helped leaps and bounds in my mental organization and sanity. But I have noticed that people don’t see it my way. %90 of the people I meet see it as a gaming console from a very rich brand. They see a toy I carry under my arm like a fashion trend, I’m assuming because they do themselves, or specifically try not to.

I go most places with an iPad and a smaller notebook under my arm. Sometimes in a backpack, sometimes left in the car. yes it’s ridiculous to run in to the corner store for a second with an iPad in check. Another problem is when I don’t have complete control over my surroundings; As much as I want to, the iPad doesn’t come to dinner with me if I am with other people. No, I don’t use it in the movie theater.

What about work?

I stand all day in a sales environment, I can’t have an iPad under my arm, that’s nuts. We already can’t have phones out, as expected by any variation of this job. But this job comes with a lot of down time, time to think. And I have figured something out thanks to this situation, something very sad…

People don’t blink an eye at a pen on a notebook.

The iPad is too much of a trend to be seen as what it is to myself, an incredibly portable computer that fits snugly into my every day life. Let alone my notes in a notebook are incredibly sloppy, and to mention, the iPad disappears fast enough to greet a customer.

Just wait it out, I suppose.

You are addicted. To a lot of things, really.

I won’t waste your time with the boring things, it’s probably all stuff you’ve heard anyway. But basically, there are a lot of things in your life that are there because the media told you you wanted them.

Ask yourself 3 questions: Did I watch the Super Bowl this year? Do I own any Apple/Vaio/PS5/Superawesomeexpensive brand gadget that I don’t use regularly? How many things of yours are just there to show off to other people?

Different set of questions. How many times did you hit snooze today? (Are you addicted to sleep?) How long has it been since you’ve looked at your phone? (Was it that important?) What did you last eat? (Was it any more than what was required to keep you sustained?)

Are you making excuses for doing all of these?

Is addiction really bad?

I would have embedded it but TED only does Flash. The zealots get angry when I do such things. I too, run Flash-less on my machine but keep Chrome around for stuff like this. Flash is perfectly safe when locked in Google’s cage.

I know exactly how to use this space.

I’ve wanted to document how I use my Mac for a while, but never had a good idea about how to go about it. Well, here we go.

The way my Computer, iPad, workspace, etc. looks changes incredibly frequently. This is where I’m stashing all of them. Next up: My Mac’s menubar.
