If you are experiencing any of these symptoms you’ve got pre or full blown periodontal disease/gum disease. And you should be worried because not only may you lose your teeth, but periodontal disease is now linked to heart disease, stokes, respiratory disease, digestive disorders, pancreatic cancer, and preterm low birth weight babies, diabetes and obesity.

It all starts with an onslaught of bacteria invading your gum tissues. Bacteria can literally multiply by the millions in just a few short hours and if left unchecked can form plaque, then tartar, and the next thing you know you have a pocket. A pocket is a separation of the gum tissue from the tooth and your dentist will measure them in millimeters – “tooth number 7 is a 4, 22 is a 6” and so on - the larger the number the deeper the pocket and the worse your condition.

Here’s what happens, the bacteria builds up and invades the pocket. You will notice some bleeding as this occurs and maybe redness or gum swelling. As the bacteria hides in the pocket, it turns into toxins or poisons and starts eating away at the gum tissue and bone of the tooth causing receding and possibly a loose tooth. When it is deep enough the bacteria is getting access to your blood and the next thing you know you’re finding yourself with all kinds of health challenges and big dental bills.

There are several things that could have contributed to this happening:

Poor oral hygiene

Tobacco use

Certain medication

Dry Mouth

Poor nutrition

Substance abuse

Stress

Hereditary

No matter what caused it, if you find yourself in this position with gum disease or pre gum disease, then you must aggressively fight the problem or you are going to begin losing your teeth and battling other health challenges.

When you’re in the midst of the battle it is nice to get some reinforcements. The first thing (first punch) you have got to do – and any dentist will tell you this - is to establish a good oral hygiene program. The second thing (second punch) you have to do is to get the bacteria under control and that’s where OraMD comes in. You’ve got to have a formula for success to win the battle.

OraMD is a liquid toothpaste, mouthwash, and breath freshener that is the best product on the planet to fight the bad bacteria in your mouth. This precise formulation of three 100% pure botanical oils of almond, spearmint, and peppermint is designed to kill the bad bacteria that are ravaging your gums. There are 100’s of types of these 3 botanical oils and dozens of properties for each type – literally millions of combinations. This is a scientific formula matching the right properties of the right oils and designed specifically to combat the bacteria in your mouth. There is nothing like it on the market - it’s fast and effective, and it leaves a real fresh, clean feeling in your mouth.

Why doesn’t my TOOTH PASTE and MOUTHWASH work?

Virtually every tooth paste has an ingredient in it called Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. This ingredient is what makes your toothpaste suds up, but is a harsh chemical that is used the world over in clinical studies to irritate the skin. It is also used in car wash soaps. The last thing you want to do when you have a gum problem is continually apply something to your gums twice a day that is an irritant.

Mouth wash with alcohol is a formula for dry mouth. Alcohol will dry out your mouth and dry mouth leads to bacteria multiplying voraciously – into the billions.

Tomato Lovers!
Scientists are suggesting that tomato lovers may be more likely to reduce the risk of serious disease. Lycopene, an anti oxidant which gives tomatoes their lovely rich red color, helps remove free radicals from the body. Free radicals are unstable oxygen molecules and have been implicated in cancer and other serious diseases.

Professor Michael Avirim of the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa, Israel who is testing lycopene in clinical trials says, ' In its natural form, lycopene is an excellent anti oxidant that helps to prevent formation of oxidized LDL, the 'bad' cholesterol in blood, which contributes to the build up of plaque that narrows, stiffens and constricts arteries and can lead to heart attacks. When this natural extract was added to cancer cell cultures, the lycopene inhibited their growth. Lycopene is the most potent nutritional antioxidant found to date.

Another study compared men who had had a heart attack with the same number of healthy men and found that those with high levels of lycopene appeared to reduce their risk of heart diseases by 50%. The study’s coordinator, Lenore Kohlmeier, professor of nutrition and epidemiology at the university of North Carolina, said, 'Based on our findings, and other research, lycopene can be an excellent antioxidant, we recommend that people eat tomato based cooked foods.'

Several recent studies have shown that a diet rich in tomatoes and tomato products is strongly linked to a reduced risk of certain cancers. In a six year study of 48,000 male professionals, Dr Edward Giovannucci and colleagues at Harvard Medical School found that consuming tomatoes and tomato based products between five to seven serving a week was associated with a reduced risk of prostate cancer of 21% to 34%.

Another study published in the International Journal of Cancer said that lycopene appears to protect against cancer of the mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, colon and rectum. Researchers at the University of Illinois report that women with the highest lycopene levels had a five fold lower risk of developing precancerous signs of cervical cancer than women with lowest lycopene levels.

The human body does not produce lycopene alone and therefore relies on a consumption of tomatoes and tomato based products for this anti oxidant. Nutritionists and other health professionals have long advocated the cancer preventative benefits of a diet high in fruits and vegetables. .

Lycopene: Just The Facts

Research by Dr. Joseph Levy and colleagues from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Beer-Sheva, Israel, may have identified the unique mechanism through which lycopene protects against cancer which is by activating cancer-preventive phase II enzymes.

Lycopene is an open-chain unsaturated carotenoid that imparts red color to tomatoes.

Lycopene is a proven anti-oxidant that may lower the risk of certain diseases including cancer and heart disease.

In the body, lycopene is deposited in the liver, lungs, prostate gland, colon and skin. Its concentration in body tissues tends to be higher than all other carotenoids.

Epidemiological studies have shown that high intake of lycopene-containing vegetables is inversely associated with the incidence of certain types of cancer. For example, habitual intake of tomato products has been found to decrease the risk of cancer of the digestive tract among Italians.

In one six-year study by Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health, the diets of more than 47,000 men were studied. Of 46 fruits and vegetables evaluated, only the tomato products (which contain large quantities of lycopene) showed a measurable relationship to reduce prostate cancer risk. As consumption of tomato products increased, levels of lycopene in the blood increased, and the risk for prostate cancer decreased. The study also showed that the heat processing of tomatoes and tomato products increases Lycopene bioavailability.

Whether you’re traveling or staying home, you’ll likely be exposed to a plethora of different pathogens this holiday season. While many people are cognizant of their own healthy hygiene and self-care habits such as washing their hands, chances are, there are plenty of people who don’t share the same concern for their health (or yours).

In addition, there are often places where you have little control over your exposure to germs such as planes or offices, or unlikely spots in your home or hotel room that you may not consider that are harboring bacteria, viruses, or worse. Stay safe by being aware of potential health threats that could wreak havoc on your holiday plans!

Show Disease the Door

There are few places you can enter without being forced to touch a doorknob, but the Centers for Disease Control report that you should be more aware of your next grand entrance (or exit), as colds, the influenza virus, staph germs, and even HPV (the human papillomavirus) can be transmitted via a common doorknob.

While you can’t live in fear of all doorknobs, taking extra precautions can help keep you healthy. Wash your hands frequently, especially before eating or right as you get home, and avoid touching your face.

Try BaniFlu™, a homeopathic remedy that protects against flu virus and germs and is safe for all ages.

“Friends” Who Follow You Home

At home or on the road, few women go anywhere without their purse. An ABC News investigation inspected many handbags, and many had thousands of bacteria present, with one whopper having 6.7 million present! Over half of the bags tested were contaminated with fecal bacteria. As purses are thrown on the bathroom floor to the car seat to the kitchen counter, the potential for illness is high, as cross contamination to food preparation areas or even hands-to-face contact occurs.

The same risk of bacteria and germs could therefore likely be associated with suitcases, as they are transferred many times from baggage handlers to taxis to hotel rooms. Keep antibacterial wipes handy and clean your handbag and suitcase, especially the handles and bottom.

In addition, travelers should be especially careful in hotels, as the Environmental Protection Agency says bedbugs are on the rise and becoming an increasing health problem. When returning home, don’t throw your suitcase right on the bed. Instead, clean it with a brush and vacuum inside, and wash all its contents.

Showers, Saunas & Swimming Pools – Not Safe Havens

After a long day of traveling or dealing with demanding family members, escaping to the comfort of a steamy shower may seem like just the trick to wash away the worries of the day. However, a recent study from the University of Colorado found dirty showerheads to be full of bacteria, while other reports from the CDC and hotel case studies showed bacteria and diseases transmitted via hot tubs and saunas, from pneumonia originating from legionella bacteria via inhalation of water aerosols to digestive, skin, ear, respiratory, eye, and even neurological infections from bacteria, parasites and other pathogens that can even survive chlorine in swimming pools.

While some may find it laughable, the best way to stay safe is to stay clear of any pool, sauna or hot tub unless you know it’s properly maintained. At home, be sure to thoroughly clean your showerheads regularly, and while away, if you’re unsure of cleanliness, request an extra cleaning.

Try ImmunityPlus™ for complete and effective immune system support in adults, and for children, try KiddieBoost™ for support of healthy immune functioning in children.

5-Star Ratings Don’t Always Equate to Safety

The CDC estimates that 76 million cases of foodborne infections occur annually in the United States, leading to 323,000 hospitalizations. From contaminated work surfaces to dirty hands, improper food preparation is the main culprit of infection.

While the FDA has reported 15 foodborne illness-inducing organisms, five are responsible for the worst illnesses: Salmonella, E. coli O157 and other Shiga toxin-producing E. coli, Campylobacter, Listeria, and Toxoplasma.

You might want to check out your local restaurant inspection reports online before ordering takeout or heading to that pricey bistro up the street, or offer to lend a (clean) hand to your hostess who is preparing your holiday meal. And if you’re staying at a hotel, don’t be shy to ask for a new water glass. Fox 5 in Atlanta uncovered hotel room glasses that had never been properly sanitized in a dishwasher, but simply clothed off by housekeeping and returned to the sink counter or nightstand.

Try Triple Complex Digestion Tonic™ a homeopathic remedy that relieves digestive discomfort, including diarrhea, constipation, flatulence and abdominal pain

Stay Well All Year

Your main concern should be boosting immunity, as it’s your body’s first line of defense against illness. Natural remedies can provide the added support the body needs. Astragalus membranaceous (also called 'huang qi') is a natural rejuvenating tonic shown to have an excellent effect on immune system health and functioning. Viscum album is also commonly known to enhance the immune-stimulating properties of other ingredients, and it encourages repair of damaged cells.

Other natural ingredients with immune boosting properties are Inula helenium, Withania somnifera, Hypoxis Rooperi (extract of African Potato), Mentha piperita, Solidago virgaurea, Crataegus oxycanthoides, Schizandra chinensis, and Olea europea (extract of Olive leaf).

All of these powerful ingredients are found in nature’s medicine chest and will go a long way in helping you strengthen your immune system against illness, disease, and infection, so you can make the most of the holiday season and everyday.

Question:
“Hello, I am very terrified of getting sick, especially any kind of influenza. Is there any homeopathic remedy that will protect against it? Please help me! I’m also afraid of medicines. I have been able to take some homeopathic successfully, so I feel more comfortable taking those. Thank you”
-- Wendy S.

Answer:
We recommend a combination of our BaniFlu and Easy AirTravel™ remedies, which are safe, non-addictive, FDA-registered and 100% homeopathic.
Citrus aurantium which is also known as the Chinese herb, bitter orange, has traditionally been used for chest and stomach ailments. More recently, a need for an effective weight loss supplement to replace ephedra prompted research into a new use for bitter orange. And it works!

What is notable about citrus aurantium is that it contains properties that are ephedrine-like in their fat-burning ability. Pro Lean with citrus aurantium changes the way your body metabolizes fat, resulting in weight loss. But unlike ephedra-containing products, there have been no ill side effects for blood pressure observed with citrus aurantium.

Studies have shown that citrus aurantium may be "the best thermogenic substitute for ephedra." Dieters have searched far and wide and have become weary and nearly broke from trying diet products that claim to be the “latest and greatest" in weight loss solutions.

Pro Lean with citrus aurantium works synergistically with other proven ingredients - including green tea leaf extract and Siberian ginseng in a huge proprietary blend - to help you naturally increase fat-burning and, with a healthy lifestyle, manage your weight

Helping increase metabolism, burn fat, and curb cravings.

Pro Image strives hard to provide the most recent advances in nutritional science because we understand that you and so many others need and want the energy, weight loss and fat burning found with this uniquely effective formula, which is getting results across the country.

Citrus Aurantium Is Highly Touted

Studies show that citrus aurantium increases the body's resting metabolic rate and encourages the release of stored fat for energy production. What makes this botanical so unique is that it appears to increase thermogenesis without stimulating the central nervous system. As a result, it encourages the body to burn calories at a faster rate without creating a feeling of nervousness or "jitters." Citrus aurantium may also act as an appetite suppressant.

Citris aurantium is the traditional Chinese medicine name for the immature, unripe fruit of a citrus family plant (tree) called Citrus Aurantium, also known in other parts of the world as bitter orange, green orange, sour orange, or Seville orange. It's natural habitat is India and China, but it is cultivated in Spain and Madeira. This fruit is a rich source of vitamins and minerals, and contains other substances that facilitate weight loss and additional healthy benefits.

Doctors in the Department of Physiology, Medicine and Pathology at Georgetown University Medical Center had this to say about Citris aurantium:

"Obesity is a serious health problem throughout the world. More than half of U.S. adults are overweight (61%) and more than a quarter (26%) of U.S. adults are obese. The inability of many individuals to keep their weight in check by diet and exercise has created a need for additional therapeutic means to combat obesity. Despite great effort, the pharmaceutical industry has not come up with the solution; because most weight-loss drugs to date have serious adverse effects to health and well-being... Ephedrine has proven time and time again that it is an effective weight loss agent through its ability to increase thermogenesis and quench appetite. However, the publicity concerning adverse reactions has led to its gradual withdrawal from use by many despite the perceived consequences of obesity... Citrus aurantium, an agent containing beta agonists, has been reported to aid in weight loss in two studies and increase thermogenesis, at least to some extent, in three studies... At present, Citrus aurantium may be the best thermogenic substitute for ephedra."

The constituents found in citris aurantium - synephrine, tyramine, octopamine, hordenine and n-methyltyramine - especially the active ingredient synephrine, act as a mild stimulant that boosts the metabolic rate, expends calories and increases energy. This stimulation of the fat metabolism does not have negative cardiovascular or central nervous system effects, since only the beta-3 receptors are stimulated, without affecting the other alpha and beta receptors related to heart rate and blood pressure. The substances tyramine and octopamine play an important role in controlling and suppressing the appetite. This combined thermogenisis makes this herb a safe and effective weight loss aid.

A synergistic combination of ingredients make Pro Lean work for you!

In addition to citrus aurantium, we've created a formula of superior quality and vast research with green tea leaf extract, Siberian ginseng, and chromium polynicotinate in a propietary blend that includes - among other nutrients - Royal Jelly, Vitamin B-12, Saw Palmetto, Yerba Mate, Bee Pollen, Foti Root, Hawthorne Berry, White Willow Bark, Gingko Biloba and Ginger Root.

Pro Image International takes it’s description as the healthy lifestyle company seriously. This is why we encourage slight changes in lifestyle, in addition to our wonderfully effective products, as being important for achieving and maintaining your weight loss goals.

Maintaining good nutrition, regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle is a continuing process. There is substantial evidence that improving dietary patterns and losing weight lowers blood pressure, and controls diabetes and cholesterol. Use Pro Lean as your cornerstone to a healthy lifestyle to help you achieve your weight management goals. .

Pro Image is proud to offer new and improved Pro Lean, which is certain to strike a chord with everyone who has struggled to lose weight.

As a physician for many years working one on one with pregnant women, I was amazed at the number who had never heard about Omega 3’s for their baby’s brain development. Furthermore I was amazed at the number of pregnant women eating a huge amount of fish without recognizing the risks of possible mercury poisoning for their unborn child.

First let me explain, as a physician I know that Omega-3s are essential to not only the pregnant mother but also the fetus developing in the womb and here’s why. The intake of omega-3s during the final trimester of pregnancy boosts the cognitive and sensory development of the infant. There was a study published in The Journal of Pediatrics that found that exposure to omega-3 fatty acids in the last months of pregnancy can be linked to visual acuity, cognitive and motor development in infants between 6 and 11 months. Furthermore, the research supervisor, Dr. Gina Muckle stated, “These results highlight the crucial importance of prenatal exposure to omega-3s in a child’s development. A diet rich in omega-3s during pregnancy can’t be expected to solve everything, but our results show that such a diet has positive effects on a child’s sensory, cognitive, and motor development.”

As there has been much research done on the developing brain and Omega 3’s, there is still a concern that the pregnant mother should be aware of the mercury contained in fish. I am aware of the small amounts of mercury in fish but as I researched this problem, I found that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are advising woman who may become pregnant, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and young children to avoid some types of fish but to eat fish and shellfish that are lower in mercury. There was another interesting article I found in The American Journal Epidemiol, 2008, where women who ate more than two servings of fatty fish per week had children who, at age three, performed better on cognitive and motor skills tests. However, in women who had higher mercury levels in pregnancy, their children had lower test scores. The problem is that women who had high mercury levels also consumed more fish. This dilemma is what prevents many women from getting enough omega-3 fatty acids in their diet while pregnant.

The FDA and EPA had some recommendations on eating fish as a whole:

Do not eat Shark, Swordfish, King Mackerel, or Tilefish because they contain high levels of mercury.

Eat up to 12 ounces (2 average meals) a week of a variety of fish and shellfish that are lower in mercury.Five of the most commonly eaten fish that are low in mercury are shrimp, canned light tuna, salmon, pollock, and catfish. Another commonly eaten fish, albacore (”white”) tuna has more mercury than canned light tuna. So, when choosing your two meals of fish and shellfish, you may eat up to 6 ounces (one average meal) of albacore tuna per week.

Check local advisories about the safety of fish caught by family and friends in your local lakes, rivers, and coastal areas. If no advice is available, eat up to 6 ounces (one average meal) per week of fish you catch from local waters, but don’t consume any other fish during that week.

If you are concerned about the fish you eat and what the level of mercury is in the fish you currently eat, the FDA has created a list of mercury for you.

Now let me add my professional opinion in regards to Omega 3’s supplementation and the benefits of taking the JD Premium K48-Plus over the recommendations of just eating fish. There are many people, including my wife when she was pregnant, who don’t like the smell of fish because of their sensitivity to smell, let alone the taste. Some pregnant women just don’t tolerate the smell very well. Therefore they won’t consider eating fish let alone cooking the fish for their family. Then when I read the FDA’s recommendations of eating the “fish low in mercury”, I still believe many women may want the convenience and SAFETY of taking the Omega 3 supplements instead. While fish with lower levels of mercury are recommended, the fact that supplementing with Omega 3’s is such an easier and a safer way of getting the “healthy” omega 3’s into the pregnant mother’s and the baby’s brain.

K48-Plus contains both DHA and EPA. In this type of product, the Omega 3 fatty acids DHA and EPA are already naturally attached to phospholipids! That means there are no triglycerides to break down, so DHA and EPA can enter your cells directly with no additional work involved. Both the mother and the baby will receive it without delay and without the harmful toxin of mercury that can come through the digestive system into the bloodstream of both the mother and the baby. The other great value of this product for both mother and baby is that it is a powerful antioxidant which fights free radical damage. This powerful antioxidant from the Omega 3 called astaxanthin (az-ta-zan-thin) is up to 550 times more potent than vitamin E and 11 times more powerful than beta-carotene. It is one of the few nutrients that can cross the blood-brain barrier to deliver optimum nutrients to every cell in your body. Can you imagine the power of this nutrient to the baby’s brain! Your health is worth it and so are your babies.

I often have mothers ask me if it is safe to take K48-Plus while they are pregnant. The answer is that it is not only safe but necessary. K48-Plus is by far superior to fish oil. To get the Omega 3s your body needs from fish oil you would have to take about 17 a day. Pregnant moms generally have a sensitive stomach; can you imagine trying to get a pregnant mom to take 17 big fish oil capsules every day? The best choice is 2 small K 48-Plus capsules each day with no stomach upset.

Spread the word—too many omega 6s kill but omegas 3s bring life.

Do Your Homework!

Go to the library or search the internet to find out about different breeds of dogs; this will help when it comes time to go pet shopping. Keep in mind the lifestyle of the person you are purchasing for. If you are purchasing a pet for your own child, think about his or her energy level, as well as the lifestyle that you lead as a family.

If you are at work more than eight hours a day, it may be better to get a more self-sufficient pet like a cat, or make sure that you’ll have a friend or family member available to take your dog out through the day (or be sure to factor in the expense of hiring a dog walker). On the other hand, if you are getting a pet for an elderly loved one, find a pet that has less energy and smaller so that it is easier to handle and care for.

Pick Me, Pick ME!

Shelters are great places to find pets, and picking your pet from a pound has many advantages. National figures indicate that about half of the animals in shelters are euthanized for lack of homes. Most of them are waiting for someone like you to rescue them!

Don’t get discouraged if the shelter does not have the pet you had your heart set on; shelters get new pets everyday and often you can be put on a calling list when it arrives. To ensure that you are the perfect match for your pet, many shelters offer assistance with adoption counseling and follow-up care, such as pet parenting, dog-training classes, medical services, and behavior counseling. Another advantage of purchasing from a shelter is that animals are more likely to be spayed, neutered and de-wormed, and the fee to adopt is much less versus a private breeder or store.

Though there are so many advantages in buying from a pet shelter, there are a few things to consider. Sometimes you may find your new pet has been in contact with other animals with viruses like kennel cough, Parvovirus, or Panleukopenia (feline distemper). It is important to take your new pet or the pet you purchased for a loved one to the vet once they are in your hands, especially if they are showing signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, or dehydration. Keep an eye on your new family member by checking their feces, listening for coughing or noticing any lethargy.

To protect the feline immune system try Panleuk-Free™ or use Parvo-K™ in preparation for the canine Parvo vaccine

To relieve a dry cough and a hacking cough try SlenderPet

Timing is Everything!

When giving the gift of a new pet, consider the right time to do it. If the pet is for your children, think about the upcoming responsibilities that Christmas usually brings. If your family is scheduled for grandma’s house by noon, what will you do with your new pet?

Some families wait until after the holidays to give a pet as a gift. If you decide to wait until after the holiday season to pick your pet, you could make your children a part of the adventure. Continue to do your homework before the purchase and stick to your plan of your own perfect pet. Children often get sidetracked and can easily divert from plans; you can still make the new pet a surprise by buying all the supplies necessary and letting them open them as presents. They will know that after Christmas they will have a new four-legged family member.

If you plan on giving a pet to someone outside your family, gifting after Christmas is wise; the new owner may want to pick out their own pet, plus they won’t have to worry about house-breaking during the hectic holidays.

After the Rush!

The first night with a new pet is always the roughest, and most pets feel uneasy about new surroundings. Animals need space; this is a good time for you and your family to find a place in your home where your new pet will feel comfortable and relaxed. Find a spot for a pet bed, food dish, accident pad or litter box.

Make rules for smaller children, and show them how to hold their new pet. If you gave a pet as Christmas gift to someone outside your own home, it’s a good idea to buy the essentials for that person, too. If the new pet is still unsure with his/her atmosphere, they may tend to act-out by digging, chewing, scratching, barking or meowing. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and ensuring his or her new home is safe are great ways to combat bad pet behaviors.

To support behavior modification efforts, try Problem Pet Solution

Question:
"My husband adopted a 3 month old Pit Bull Terrier. He was sneezing the first day, which I thought that was a sign, then started wheezing a day later. I have 3 Yorkies who are 14 years old. I found out that two of them became sick from the Pit Bull. One of my boys recovered quickly; the other one still sneezes, hacks and sometimes has a fever and running nose. I'm very concerned about them; my dogs have always been healthy. People think they are still pups until I tell them how old they are. Will SlenderPet work for him and how much do I give him? Should I continue to give the other dogs the same dosage even if they’re fine?"
– Luisa

Answer:.
We would certainly recommend following dosage instructions of SlenderPet for all your dogs. SlenderPet is a safe, non-addictive natural remedy containing 100% homeopathic ingredients selected to relieve and soothe dry, hacking coughing & sneezing, plus provide respiratory and immunity protection.

Because SlenderPet is 100% homeopathic, it supports the animal body on a cellular level – getting to work upon the first dose. Response times may vary from pet to pet, but should be noticed within 24 – 48 hours on average.

It is recommended that you disinfect all surfaces and the environment as best as possible to avoid further contamination. - The PetAliveTeam

By McClatchy Newspapers
Friday, December 4, 2009

COLUMBIA, S.C. — An executive of Diamond Pet Foods, which announced a recall of two varieties of cat food, said Thursday the tainted products were manufactured at the same Gaston, S.C., plant that in 2005 produced toxic dog food responsible for the deaths or illnesses of dozens of dogs around the nation.

"Yeah, it’s out of Gaston," Diamond president Mike Kampeter said. Kampeter declined to answer further questions about the plant, which employs about 100 people.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which has oversight of pet-food manufacturing, said an investigation is under way.

The probe could lead to enforcement actions aimed at getting the company to correct problems, a spokesman said. In July, Diamond announced a $3.8 million expansion of its Lexington County plant that would add 37 employees to its work force.

On Sept. 23, Diamond voluntarily recalled Premium Edge Finicky Adult Cat Food and Premium Edge Hairball Cat Food. The Meta, Mo.-based company said the recall was necessary because the products had "the potential to produce thiamin ... deficiency."

The FDA said there were reports of 21 cases of thiamine deficiency, which can cause neurological problems and loss of appetite in cats, but no deaths. Cases were confined to New York and Pennsylvania, and none has been reported since Oct. 19.

An FDA spokeswoman said that cat food case was a "Class I" recall, meaning the situation involved the possibility of serious illness or death.

Bags of the tainted food were distributed at stores in 18 states in the Southeast and Northeast.

Four years ago, Diamond’s Gaston plant was the source of dog food with a poisonous fungus called aflatoxin in it. The fungus came from the corn used in the food production.

The FDA reported 76 dogs had died after eating the food and another 21 had become ill.

Diamond later admitted it did not follow its own testing procedures at the plant and in January 2008 agreed to pay $3.1 million to settle a class-action suit.

The latest recall includes food that was manufactured in Lexington County from May 28 to Aug. 30, the company said.

Kampeter said the company issued a voluntary recall Sept. 23, asking retailers to pull the two cat food products off their shelves.

Diamond said it tested the product and determined there were no contaminants in the cat food. It also tracked the vitamin premix lot number and notified distributors and retailers.

Further testing on another lot of the Premium Edge brand was done and there was no thiamine deficiency, the company said.

A cat suffering from a thiamine deficiency may have a wobbly walk, appear weak, have paralysis of the hind limbs, suffer seizures, bend its neck toward the floor, walk in circles, and have abnormal eye movements called nystagmus. Affected cats also may suffer loss of appetite and vomiting.

A spokesman for the S.C. Department of Agriculture said the state did not have jurisdiction in the cat-food case because thiamine is a vitamin.

The state’s feed law allowed the agency to investigate the toxic dog food because tainted corn was used in the product, said agency spokesman Stephen Hudson said.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - November 27, 2009 - On September 23, Diamond Pet Foods issued a voluntary recall for Premium Edge Finicky Adult Cat and Premium Edge Hairball cat because they have the potential to produce Thiamine Deficiency. Today’s announcement provides additional information from the company’s posted announcement of September 23 when the initial recall information was provided.

Thiamine is essential for cats. Symptoms of deficiency displayed by an affected cat can be gastrointestinal or neurological in nature. At the first stage the cat may show decreased appetite, salivation, vomiting, and weight loss. Later, neurologic signs can develop, which may include ventriflexion (bending towards the floor) of the neck, wobbly walking, circling, falling, and seizures. These ultimately may result in the death of the animal if left untreated. If your cat has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

The affected products were distributed in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida.

Diamond has tested the product and found the cat foods were deficient in thiamine. Samples taken by the FDA indicated that there were additional lots with insufficient levels of thiamine. No other complaints have been reported on any other product manufactured by Diamond Pet Foods.

Cushing's disease and Addison's disease.

Cushing's disease is commonly caused by a benign tumor on the pituitary gland. The result is an over production of adrenal gland hormones. Steroid-induced Cushing’s is also very prevalent today. Long term use of corticosteroids can cause this condition. Usually it is from the use of prednisone injections for arthritis. Hip tenderness and immobility can start to come to light in latter years, so the cats can be treated for the better part of their adult/senior life. Symptoms of Cushing’s disease can sometimes stop or reduce if the steroids are stopped, but a lot of the time the damage is permanent.

Addison’s disease is similar to Cushing’s in that in most cases it is brought on by the long term use of corticosteroids. Addison’s is when the pet’s body makes antibodies that destroy its own adrenal glands. It is very hard to diagnose and is rare, especially in cats. Weakness and vomiting can be signs, but the only way to truly tell it is Addison’s is to test for adrenal hormone levels.

Symptoms of feline Cushing's and Addison's disease:

Increased water intake

Increased appetite

Weight gain

Skin and bladder infections

These symptoms closely resemble kidney disease or diabetes so it can be easily misdiagnosed.

Feline Supraglan is an all natural herbal formula with normalizing action, irrespective of the direction of the pathologic state. It works to normalize the production of adrenal gland hormones.

Customer Testimonial
“My cat Missy has been taking your product Supraglan for two months now.
It has to do with an important word you will hopefully never meet in a spelling bee. The word is esterified. It rhymes with terrified, but it’s something we’re very excited about at JD Premium because it’s why our K48 is so potent.

When you get omega-3s from other sources, your body has to modify them so they can be absorbed. With esterified omega-3s the work’s already done by the krill. It’s ready to be absorbed. That’s why you only have to take one tiny red capsule the size of your little fingernail instead of a dozen or more giant fish oil capsules the size of a joint of your finger.

Here’s the story on how the omega-3s in our K48 are esterified. We won’t test you on this part when you take your next pop quiz.

The omega-3s in K48 are already bound to phospholipids by the krill so your body doesn’t have to convert them.

Here’s the science on the type of astaxanthin (the anti-oxidant) we also have in K48. The unique position of the double bonds and the ions in the antioxidant molecule allow it to be 100% absorbed. If it weren’t already esterified by the krill, the body would have to metabolize it. It would only get 50% of the benefit because the rest wouldn’t be metabolized. All your body has to do is absorb the omega-3s and the antioxidants. You’re good to go.

Not only that but these substances cross the blood brain barrier more easily. That’s why you’ve seen such remarkable improvement in brain clarity especially in children who have learning disorders like dyslexia, ADD, or ADHD.

So you see, this process not only works on the anti-inflammatory omega-3s but also on the antioxidants—those things that keep you from aging, getting cancer, and basically deteriorating too fast. So you’re getting all the anti-inflammatory effects of omega-3s—better baby brain development, your brain development, clearer thinking, freer arteries, less joint inflammation, clearer skin, less PMS, etc. And you’re getting all the benefits of a super antioxidant—many times more powerful than any antioxidant supplement on the market.

If you’ve taken a before and after blood test and checked your triglycerides and cholesterol, you’ve seen the difference K48 can make. You’ve felt your joints and your mood improve. You’ve probably felt that boost of energy everyone is talking about. If you’re an athlete, you’ve found that you can train faster and get better results.

You can purchase K48 Krill Oil at retail or become a preferred customer.

Just half a teaspoon of cinnamon a day significantly reduces blood sugar levels in diabetics, a new study has found. The effect, which can be produced even by soaking a cinnamon stick your tea, could also benefit millions of non-diabetics who have blood sugar problem but are unaware of it.

The discovery was initially made by accident, by Richard Anderson at the US Department of Agriculture's Human Nutrition Research Center in Beltsville, Maryland. "We were looking at the effects of common foods on blood sugar; one was the American favorite, apple pie, which is usually spiced with cinnamon. We expected it to be bad. But it helped," he says.

The active ingredient in cinnamon turned out to be a water-soluble polyphenol compound called MHCP. In test tube experiments, MHCP mimics insulin, activates its receptor, and works synergistically with insulin in cells.

To see if it would work in people, Alam Khan, who was a postdoctoral fellow in Anderson's lab, organized a study in Pakistan. Volunteers with Type 2 diabetes were given one, three or six grams of cinnamon powder a day, in capsules after meals.

All responded within weeks, with blood sugar levels that were on average 20 per cent lower than a control group. Some even achieved normal blood sugar levels. Tellingly, blood sugar started creeping up again after the diabetics stopped taking cinnamon.

In the volunteers, the Cinnamon also lowered blood levels of fats and "bad" cholesterol, which are also partly controlled by insulin. And in test tube experiments it neutralized free radicals, damaging chemicals which are elevated in diabetics.

Cinnamon's essential oils also qualify it as an "anti-microbial" food, and cinnamon has been studied for its ability to help stop the growth of bacteria as well as fungi, including the commonly problematic yeast Candida.

In a study, published in the August 2003 issue of the International Journal of Food Microbiology, the addition of just a few drops of cinnamon essential oil to approximately 3 ounces of carrot broth, which was then refrigerated, inhibited the growth of the food borne pathogenic Bacillus cereus for at least 60 days. When the broth was refrigerated without the addition of cinnamon oil, the pathogenic B. cereus flourished despite the cold temperature. In addition, researchers noted that the addition of cinnamon not only acted as an effective preservative but improved the flavor of the broth.

Research led by Dr. P. Zoladz and presented April 24, 2004, at the annual meeting of the Association for Chemoreception Sciences, in Sarasota, FL, found that chewing cinnamon flavored gum or just smelling cinnamon enhanced study participants' cognitive processing. Specifically, cinnamon improved participants' scores on attention related processes, virtual recognition memory, working memory, and visual-motor speed while working on a computer-based program.

(Hint: simmer a few cinnamon sticks in water while your kids are doing their homework – this will also serve as wonderful yet non-toxic air freshener for your home)

In addition to the active components in its essential oils and its nutrient composition, cinnamon has also been valued in energy-based medical systems, such as Traditional Chinese Medicine, for its warming qualities. In these traditions, cinnamon has been used to provide relief when faced with the onset of a cold or flu, especially when mixed in a tea with some fresh ginger.

Apple Cinnamon Phi is a version of Phi Plus which is made with a generous addition of apples and cinnamon. Apples and Cinnamon are two very healthy whole foods additional fiber and the health benefits of apples and cinnamon to Phi Plus. This sweet and chewy treat will please the taste buds, warm the spirit and nourish the mind and body.

Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables can help you ward off heart disease and stroke, control blood pressure and cholesterol, prevent some types of cancer, avoid a painful intestinal ailment called diverticulitis, and guard against cataract and macular degeneration, two common causes of vision loss.

What does "plenty" mean? More than most Americans consume. The latest dietary guidelines call for five to thirteen servings of fruits and vegetables a day.

The largest and longest study to date, done as part of the Harvard-based Nurses' Health Study and Health Professionals Follow-up Study, included almost 110,000 men and women whose health and dietary habits were followed for 14 years. The higher the average daily intake of fruits and vegetables, the lower the chances of developing cardiovascular disease.

Increasing fruit and vegetable intake by as little as one serving per day can have a real impact on heart disease risk. According to these two Harvard studies, for every extra serving of fruits and vegetables that participants added to their diets per day, their risk of heart disease dropped by 4 percent.

Fruits and vegetables are clearly an important part of a good diet. Almost everyone can benefit from eating more of them, but variety is as important as quantity. No single fruit or vegetable provides all of the nutrients you need to be healthy. The key lies in the variety of different fruits and vegetables that you eat.

Our charitable non-profit’s latest financial award was bestowed upon the Greyhound Adoption of Greater Cincinnati, which is dedicated to saving the lives of retired racing Greyhounds.

Greyhound racing takes place in 46 tracks in 15 states in America, much to the dismay of many people who find the practice unacceptable. Unfortunately, the life of a racing dog is often a hard one during their years on the track. And the dogs who experience injury on the track, or are not fast enough to consistently place well in races, quickly lose status as prized assets and become liabilities that must be eliminated.

Fortunately, not everyone feels that Greyhounds should be treated this way.

These exquisite creatures are known for grace, agility, speed and an enormous capacity for caring, making them wonderful companions. Generally, these sleek and muscular canines are great with kids, and rescued Greyhounds are known to bond very quickly with their adoptive families.

The Foundation’s award covered all expenses for four rescued Greyhounds to have veterinarian examinations and treatments, including: spaying or neutering, all vaccinations, heartworm testing, teeth cleaning, necessary worming and grooming. The four Greyhounds helped by our grant are Ripley, Gus, Amy and Foxy Lady

Can you tie them in a knot, can you tie them in a bow? Of course not. That would hurt like heck and obviously we pets are not about causing ourselves undue pain.

Besides, our ears are particularly sensitive. Ask any pet: tug, pull or scratch us a little too hard and out come the fangs. We can't help it.

Our ears are super vulnerable too, when it comes to certain ailments. Animal ears offer the perfect breeding ground for germs: warm, moist and rather protective. We get ear infections really easily!

Ear infections are important to notice and treat, right away. Infections can usually be one of a few things:

Bacterial: Pups and kitties with longer, fuzzier and/or floppier ears can have less airflow than small-eared pets - making them especially prone to this kind.

Symptoms: You could see discharge, redness, swelling and/or pain. If it looks like we're shaking our heads "no" all day long, consider it a symptom (and not our complete defiance).

Fungal: Just like mushrooms, fungus loves to grow in warm, moist dark places. Again, the ears are prime real estate. Like humans, animals all have healthy, friendly yeast present in our bodies. But poor diets and unhealthy lifestyles can cause a yeast imbalance, making us prone to this sort of infection. Fungus can spread to the face and paws too, so early treatment is key.

Symptoms: Discharge, redness, swelling, scaling, dryness, oozing and intense itching.

Parasites: Tiny, micro bugs. They breed inside the ear canal, lowering immunity and making the infected pet more prone to bacteria or fungus. Mites are ruffing contagious, in fact if you live with more than one pet you all have to be treated together!

Symptoms: Lots of scratching, possible loss of balance and occasionally nausea or refusal to eat. Inside the ear will have a residue like coffee grounds.

Most vets love to prescribe antibiotics for the above infections. They work alright, by killing off practically everything - not just the bad stuff! Our healthy bacteria get the axe too, making our bodies even more vulnerable to another attack. As long as an infection is attended to pronto, natural herbal formulations can work just as well - and sometimes pull double duty, like ER Drops which can fight mites and fungus. And natural remedies help our own immune systems fight back, so we stay strong!

Common ear infections are most easily treated. But as I always bark: prevention is key! The best way to prevent ear infections from happening is by having your human clean your ears often. I clean once a week (my day is Sunday, Dog's Day. Stinkiness is usually next to doginess, but when it comes to the ears: cleanliness. Dig?). A weekly ear cleaning with a pet pro-ear cleaning solution will help. And your human will be able to see into your ears, catching an infestation or infection before they get worse.

Finally, live well! A proper diet and healthy lifestyle will keep immune systems strong. What better way to prevent ailments?

We're never itchy-scratchy for any reason. Leaving a symptomatic pet alone can lead to bigger problems including: inner ear infections (hOWl! Intense pain and discomfort!), and possible hearing loss (what the ruff did you say? I can't hear a thing!). Immediate attention is crucial. Hear that?

Researchers at University College London also found that a diet including plenty of fresh vegetables, fruit and fish could help prevent the onset of depression.

They compared participants -- all civil servants -- who ate a diet largely based on "whole" foods with a second group who mainly ate fried food , processed meat, high-fat dairy products and sweetened desserts.

Taking into account other indicators of a healthy lifestyle such as not smoking and taking physical exercise , those who ate the whole foods had a 26 percent lower risk of depression than those who ate mainly processed foods.

People with a diet heavy in processed food had a 58 percent higher risk of depression.

The researchers put forward several explanations for the findings, which are published in the British Journal of Psychiatry .

Firstly, the high level of antioxidants in fruits and vegetables could have a protective effect, as previous studies have shown higher antioxidant levels to be associated with a lower risk of depression.

Secondly, eating lots of fish may protect against depression because it contains high levels of the sort of polyunsaturated fatty acids which stimulate brain activity.

And they said it was possible that a "whole food" diet protects against depression because of the combined effect of consuming nutrients from lots of different types of food , rather than the effect of one single nutrient.

The researchers concluded: "Our research suggests that healthy eating policies will generate additional benefits to health and well-being, and that improving people's diet should be considered as a potential target for preventing depressive disorders ."

The study was carried out on 3,486 people with an average age of 55, who worked for the civil service in London.

November is National Diabetes month, and being informed can save your life. The American Diabetes Association estimates that 57 million Americans are at risk for type 2 diabetes- a largely preventable condition, strongly influenced by lifestyle.

And while the other types of diabetes are harder or impossible to control (type 1, pre-diabetes and gestational), there are still steps you can take to improve your quality of life.

Know Your Risk

To determine if you or your relatives are at risk, look at your family history. If diabetes runs in your family, you are at greater risk. Hispanics and African Americans are also considered to be at a higher risk. Depending on your diet and lifestyle, there are a number of factors that can put you at a higher risk. Thankfully, by being proactive about your health, you can reduce the chance of developing diabetes.

Take Action

Check your cholesterol. If your LDL cholesterol levels are high, you are at greater risk of developing diabetes.

Try Cholesto-Rite™ to help maintain cholesterol levels already within normal range, plus promote complete cardiovascular health.

Keep track of your blood pressure. High blood pressure and diabetes often occur together. The effects caused in the body by one disease have a tendency to make the other more likely to occur.

Try High-Rite™ to help maintain blood pressure already within normal range, plus promote complete cardiovascular health.

Exercise daily. Besides diet, regular exercise is one of the best ways to reduce your risk of diabetes. Aim for 30 minutes of moderate exercise daily. Walking is a great option. Make sure to talk to your doctor before starting any new exercise program.

Try Fatigue Fighter™ to promote healthy energy levels, stamina and vitality.

Take a hard look at your diet. Add more vegetables and fruits to your diet and reduce your intake of processed foods and refined sugars. A healthy diet can keep you on the right track and prevent your chances of developing diabetes.

Healthy Living

There is a great deal of evidence to suggest that the use of carefully chosen herbal and homeopathic remedies can help support pancreatic health and maintain healthy insulin levels, along with healthy lifestyle changes.

Try Triple Complex Diabetonic™, a homeopathic remedy that corrects mineral imbalances in the blood and pancreas.

The tissue salts in Diabetonic work together to improve energy levels and overall health by improving pancreatic function. It also maintains blood sugar levels, which will help to lessen cravings for sugary foods.

Try Insulate Plus™, which helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels and promotes pancreatic health.

One of the ingredients in Insulate Plus, Goat’s Rue, has been used since medieval Europe to help support pancreatic health and maintain healthy insulin levels. Studies have also suggested that this herb may help to support the maintenance of balanced glucose in the bloodstream.

Question:
“Would Insulate Plus™ help in keeping stable blood sugars along with taking insulin?”
-- Manny

Answer:
We highly recommend a combination of our Insulate Plus and Vizu-All Plus™ but NOT without first consulting a doctor.

What is Burdock?

Burdock, also known as arctium lappa, is an edible root native to Europe, Asia and Japan. A well known herb used for many centuries as a blood purifier and system cleanser, Burdock is excellent at detoxifying the tissues and removing unwanted substances from the body.

What are the Benefits of Using Burdock?

Burdock is still widely used as a purifying agent, highly regarded to promote health in cells, thus supporting functioning of the immune system. Because of its cleansing and detoxifying properties, burdock is also a great tonic for healthy skin.

Burdock is also an effective digestive tonic, especially after following an overly rich and unhealthy diet. Research has shown its liver supportive properties and its ability to maintain balance in body fluid levels, helping the kidneys to maintain their natural action of flushing out toxins. Burdock has also shown positive results in helping to maintain blood sugar levels within the normal range and is even useful for eye health.

Burdock is found in the following PetAlive products:
Cushex Drops™
Eye-Heal™
DetoxPlus™
Kidney Support™
LiverAid™
