Cedar Hammock is an extremely popular bundled golf community in Naples Florida located about 12 minutes to the white sand beaches of Olde Naples, and about 15 minutes to Marco Island.
The 6,834-yard, par-72 course lies within a community of homes (single family, attached villas, verandas and condos) where more than 50 percent of the site has been dedicated to wildlife corridors, lakes and wetlands. This environmentally friendly course provides a contemplative and natural environment for golfers, but it not without exciting challenge, and especially so for those playing from the back tees who can have a lot of frustrating fun with the water hazards. Seventeen of Cedar Hammock's holes have water and there are five sets of tees on the course, so this can certainly be considered a one-size fits all course.
Bundled golf means that the equity membership comes with your condo, veranda, villa or single family purchase. You do pay an annual fee for free golf (except for a per person cart fee), the guard gate, the clubhouse, the landscaping,etc.
If you are NOT a person who must have your perfect tee-time most of the time when you are here (referring to our season of January through March, then bundled golf is a good option.
In Cedar Hammock you can get into a condo with a beautiful view of grass, water, golf course and then preserve in the $170s and up. The entire community is in resale, so prices adjust with the market which is starting to see some increases. Keep in mind these are units that have sold as high as in the $400,000 range. Newer Bundled golf courses in Naples include: Cedar Hammock (of course); Forest Glen (across the street); Naples Lakes (Arnold Palmer upscale community down the street): Naples Heritage (the older version of Cedar Hammock, but still very nice): Heritage Bay (the newer version of Cedar Hammock, beautiful, but not as conveniently located as Cedar Hammock): Vasari (actually in Bonita Springs); and Vanderbilt Country Club.
Older versions include FoxFire (somewhat nearer to Old Naples); Royal Wood; and Countryside. Glen Eagle (somewhat nearer to Old Naples) has older and newer product, however, some does not come with golf privileges, so you should be aware of that difference. Why? Because when it come to bundled gold, everyone with golf privileges is theoretically a member and if they ALL played (which rarely happens) you could have upward of 600 members while a traditional equity course has less than 400. So by limiting membership in communities with more than 699 members, you make play reasonable. On a bundled golf community which generally uses a system called the Chelsea, (a computer that determines when you last played, your requests for optimum future play, etc., and supposedly fairly distributes such slots), you are said to get two to three good to decent plays a week. Then you can add on with men's days and women's days, and special tourneys, etc. www.cedarhammockgolf.com
If you aren't satisfied with those rules then you need to be an at equity course. In recent years those prices have dropped somewhat and you can join some courses for $50,000 to $100,000 equity and then annual fees ranging from $4000 to $7000 a year (about double or so of the bundled golf), but somewhat more prestigious if that is a concern.
