<a href="http://www.myspace.com/angelabofill" target="_blank">Angela Bofil</a> - People Make The World Go Round<br />
<em>This record has everything - beats, vocal hooks, bassline.  Sounds like
a dance record but was actually written in the 70's.  Had to edit it,
those beats were crying out for it.  First heard it at Basement Soul in
Brighton when <a href="http://www.myspace.com/amarofpatel" target="_blank">Amar Patel</a> dropped it, big moment.</em></p><p>
Tweet - Oops (Oh My) / Call Me<br />
<em>Insanely twisted beats and hooks from Timbaland who is one of my
favourite 'big' producers, next level rhythms.  Both leave you
wondering where the hell the noises came from.  Tweet just slides so
well on the tracks, perfect combination.</em><span class="at-xid-6a00d83452813469e20115705533a6970c"><a href="http://cubikmusik.typepad.com/files/oops.mp3"><br /></a></span></p><p>

<em>Beautiful record that changed my perception of house music when I heard
it when I was in my late teens. This introduced me to deeper house
and also to the master that is Pepe Braddock, who I have always rated
as one of the most talented producers on earth.</em></p><p>

so.</em></p><p>***************************************************************************</p><p>And so, onto the sounds that you can expect to hear from Greymatter if you are out and about, especially the London area. it was hating music for a while. Too many memories, too much connection
to the fucked up situation you were in. Music was the passion of the
one you shared your life with, but who you didn’t love like you should.
</p><p style="margin-left: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt;"><strong>Maybe</strong>
it was dancehall blaring in the car on Sunday afternoons. Turned up so
loud you did not have to talk and face the problems you were in. </p><p style="margin-left: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt;"><strong>Maybe</strong> it was Band of Horses playing when you knew it was over…</p><p style="margin-left: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt;"><strong>Maybe</strong> it was hip-hop. Good fucking hip-hop that you cant help but move to somewhere inside your body. </p><p style="margin-left: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt;"><strong>Maybe</strong> it was editing your ipod to make it school appropriate…</p><p style="margin-left: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt;"><strong>Maybe</strong> it is using your art class to teach music appreciation. Trying to pass on good music to future generations. </p><p style="margin-left: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt;"><strong>Maybe</strong>
it was trying to understand this music from the south, but just not
being able to think it is good at all. Shit in fact is what I think
about it. </p><p style="margin-left: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt;"><strong>Maybe</strong>
it going to shows around Austin with your friend who writes for The
Chronicle...he always knows the next big thing or the show you
shouldn’t miss. I went along for the ride and the often came away with
a new band to add to my itunes. </p><p style="margin-left: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt;"><strong>Maybe</strong>
it was meeting a “famous” local musician and going out with him a few
times before he told you he was married…fucker. Good music though. </p><p style="margin-left: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt;"><strong>Maybe</strong>
it was a trip to Paris that reminded you about the jazz ladies you
loved, the amazing Charlie Parker and how music used to be so pure and
created for nothing other then the sake of music…</p><p style="margin-left: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt;"><strong>Maybe</strong> it was hearing Tom Yorke’s voice 15 years after the first time you heard <em>Creep</em> and his voice still having that orgasmic effect on you. </p><p style="margin-left: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt;"><strong>Maybe</strong> it is the newest Bob Dylan and hearing the age in his voice, reminding you of your own mortality.</p><p style="margin-left: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt;"><strong>Maybe</strong> it is Johhny Cash years later and wanting the kind of love he and June had. </p><p style="margin-left: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt;"><strong>Maybe</strong> it was LCD Soundsystem while you were rolling. </p><p style="margin-left: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt;"><strong>Maybe</strong> it was NWA blaring at the stoner’s house on a Sunday afternoon when you were heartbroken and trying to drink away your sorrow.</p><p style="margin-left: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt;"><strong>Maybe</strong> it the Violent Femmes in the car with a 14 year old…you both singing along on the way to paint…</p><p style="margin-left: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt;"><em>We all have music we put on over and over. </em></p><p style="margin-left: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt;"><em>We all have music we know will remind us of a time, a place, a person.</em></p><p style="margin-left: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt;"><em>Happy music, Sad Music, Party Music, Get work done music, Music to make art to, Music to make love to…</em></p><p style="margin-left: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt;"><em>Music. </em></p><p style="margin-left: 0pt; margin-right: 0pt;"><em>Powerful. </em></p></span></font></div><p><font size="2" style="font-family: Arial;"><br />

However, for years language, distance and communication have made it difficult for artists in Europe and Japan to collaborate and for the intricacy and richness of the cultures to be properly exposed to the public outside of the respective countries. While the internet has helped to reduce the issue of distance, as well as language and communication to a lesser extent, there still lacks a real program of cultural exchange between Japan and European countries at the level of modern performing arts.<br />Original Cultures aims to create such a program through the development and implementation of activities<br />that form the basis of a regular Cultural Exchange Program (CEP) between the countries. All Original Cultures CEP activities will be documented and archived on the internet in multimedia formats to create an interactive and unique record of the ongoing cultural exchange.</em>"</p><p>artist bios <a href="http://www.originalcultures.org/category/artists/artists-bio/" target="_blank">here</a> for dem, will barras, ericailcane, tayone, 2tall/om unit and tatsuki</p><p>many great orgs involved with collaborations from people like this:</p><p><a href="http://www.samurai.fm/home/" target="_blank">Samurai FM</a> (UK, Japan), <a href="http://www.hearjapan.com/" target="_blank">Hear Japan</a> (Japan, TBC) <a href="http://www.paper-resistance.org/" target="_blank">Paper Resistance</a> (IT), <a href="http://www.vinilificio.com/" target="_blank">Vinilificio</a> (IT), <a href="http://www.t-turn.com/" target="_blank">T-Turn</a> (IT), <a href="http://www.spinscience.org.uk/" target="_blank">Spin Science</a> (UK), <a href="http://www.rhythm-incursions.com/" target="_blank">Rhythm Incursions</a> (UK), <a href="http://www.turntableradio.com/" target="_blank">Turntable Radio</a> (UK)</p><p><br />and media partners like this:<br /><br /><a href="http://radio.rcdc.it/" target="_blank">Radio Città del Capo</a> (IT), <a href="http://www.superflymag.com/superfly/home.html" target="_blank">Superfly Magazine</a> (IT), <a href="http://www.designradar.it/" target="_blank">Design(Radar</a> (IT), <a href="http://www.spannered.org/" target="_blank">Spannered</a><br />(UK), <a href="http://www.samurai.fm/home/" target="_blank">Samurai FM</a> (UK, Japan), <a href="http://www.rhythm-incursions.com/" target="_blank">Rhythm Incursions</a> (UK)</p><p><strong>Follow it on the Original Cultures Live blog on <a href="http://www.shook.fm/content/category/ORIGINAL-CULTURES/" target="_blank">shookmag</a></strong></p><p><strong>Timetable (if you can make it)</strong><br />• Weds 3/06/09 + Thurs 4/06/09: Music and visual art workshops between artists.
