Governor Ramps Up Support
For Mongiardo In Senate Race

Will Serve As Special Guest at Three Mongiardo Fundraisers
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Frankfort --- Lt. Governor and U.S. Senate candidate Daniel Mongiardo's campaign announced today that Governor Steve Beshear will begin actively helping Mongiardo in his Senate race by attending three Mongiardo fundraising events as a ‘special guest' before the end of the year.
The first fundraising event is scheduled to take place in the Northern Kentucky community of Independence on Thursday, September 23. For information on this event contact Eric Richardson at eric@drdan2010.com. Mongiardo spokesman Kim Geveden said the campaign is in the process of working out the details of the other two campaign events.
On March 27, Beshear endorsed Mongiardo for the Senate saying, "Now more than ever, we need strong representatives in Washington to give voice to Kentucky priorities and values. I believe Daniel Mongiardo can be that voice."
Geveden said, "We are honored to have Governor Beshear's active support of Daniel's candidacy. There is no question that the Governor's public involvement gives our campaign a strong boost. It allows us to build on the momentum gained over the last month beginning with Daniel Mongiardo's strong performance at Fancy Farm."
Since Attorney General Jack Conway's highly criticized profanity-laced tirade at Fancy Farm, Mongiardo has received the endorsement of key labor groups and two independent polls show him with a solid lead over Conway.

Tight race in the Democratic primary, perhaps surprisingly so. Expectations were that Conway, the Kentucky Attorney General, would score better than Lt. Gov. Mongiardo, but that's clearly not happening.

In the Republican side, Rand Paul's recent entry shows some promise against Grayson -- the immediate beneficiary of successful GOP efforts to unceremoniously push Sen. Jim Bunning into retirement. Rand is Ron's son, so could very well benefit from Ron Paul's online brigades. Those guys can raise serious money.

MONGIARDO LEADS CONWAY IN NEW POLL

Mongiardo In Statistical Tie With Grayson
Stronger Against Grayson and Paul Than Conway
_________________________________________________________
FRANKFORT---In a new independent poll conducted by Daily Kos/Research 2000 released today, Lt. Governor and Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Daniel Mongiardo has a strong seven point lead (37-30) over Attorney General Jack Conway in the Kentucky Democratic Primary and is in a statistical tie with Republican Secretary of State Trey Grayson.
This is the second independent poll in the last month to show Mongiardo with a strong lead over Conway and being the stronger Democratic candidate against either Grayson or Paul.
Since a Survey USA poll on August 18, Mongiardo has cut Grayson's previous lead (46-40) and is now in a statistical tie (Mongiardo 41-Grayson 45) based on a 4-point margin of error.
The Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll of 600 likely voters taken between Aug. 31-Sept, 2 (MoE +/-4%) shows Mongiardo with a strong 12 pt lead among women (39-27) and leads among men 35-34 in the Democratic primary. In the General Election match up against Grayson, Mongiardo performs better than Conway among Democrats, Republicans and Independents.
"With Daniel Mongiardo now in a statistical tie with Trey Grayson and holding a solid lead over Jack Conway, this poll shows Daniel Mongiardo is the strongest Democratic candidate to take back Wendell Ford's Senate seat. Other candidates may have more money, but Daniel Mongiardo is the only candidate in this race with a record of standing up for hard working Kentucky families and the ability to unite every region of Kentucky in a common effort to improve our Commonwealth," said Kim Geveden, Mongiardo spokesman.

The LHL, of course, ran like Forrest Gump with a private citizen’s harmless email announcing a Beshear/Mongiardo fund raiser. The person who drafted the email made a couple of inadvertent flubs and apologized for it. But that did not stop the LHL and Conway campaign from blasting the email, Governor Beshear and Mongiardo.

But Jack Conway had a little fund raiser a few months back that announced that one could have a private conversation with Conway for a minimum contribution of a $1000. I got my hands on the actual invitation.

The first invitation must be for the regular folks.

The second is for the rich folks who want to have a private conversation (OR SPECIAL ACCESS) with Conway for a grand.

A totally innocent email sent by a private citizen announcing a fund raiser was turned into a political football by Jack Conway's U.S. Senate campaign and the citizen is mad as hell about it.

"It's kind of distressing that a private and personal e-mail from a private citizen is being used to smear the governor and lieutenant governor," Ray Hardebeck said. "I don't like dirty politics, and think this smacks of it." ROGER ALFORD

The email inadvertently announced.............

that for a certain size contribution one would be able to have a private conversation with Beshear and or Mongiardo. Neither the Governor nor the Mongiardo campaign had any idea the email was sent and had no knowledge of the contents. But the hypocritical part of this, and yes there is always a hypocritical moment in Kentucky politics, is that Jack Conway announced the same very type of fund raising event, the pay to play stuff, back in May. But the MSM neglected to mention that.

FLASHBACK!

Conway is scheduled to attend a Saturday night fundraiser at the Fort Mitchell home of Nathan Smith, the former vice chairman of the Kentucky Democratic Party. Geveden noted that the suggested contributions for the event are $250 to attend the fundraiser, but for $1,000 contributors can attend a "private conversation" with Conway.

"If Jack is charging $1,000 for a private conversation I can't imagine what it would cost if he was ever elected U.S. Senator," Geveden said in an interview. "You don't have to pay $1 much less $1,000 to have a private conversation with Lt. Gov. Dan Mongiardo." Hillbilly Report.org May 28, 2009

But that didn't stop the Conway campaign from attacking.
