12 Photo Ideas for your Year in Pictures

On the" twenty"th of each month we will post "12" photo tips & ideas for your year in pictures.

1. It doesn't have to be "the perfect picture".

This picture is actually the picture taken before everyone was ready. However, this is the photo that makes us all laugh. As we were getting the cousins positioned, my son threw up his hands saying, "What am I supposed to do with my hands?" We all had a good laugh. Not everyone is looking at the camera, but of all the pictures that we took on the tower, this is our favorite one. It still makes us laugh.

2. Candid shots.

They are almost always my favorite. Candid shots often capture the true personality of the person and feelings of the moment.

3. Favorite Books.

Our family has many favorite books, but I am thinking specifically of the children's books that we read almost every night as we tucked the kids into bed.

4. Nature.

Although I love photos of my family and friends, sometimes it is the beauty of the world around us that inspires the soul.

5. Unending pile of shoes.

I have heard moms say they always hated the pile of shoes by the back door, until they all moved out. How they longed to have the pile back...I think a photo might suffice.

6. Learning something new.

This could range from painting lessons, dance recitals, soccer games...the list is endless.

7. Photos at work.

We often spend a good deal of our day at work. Take photos of the place of business, your desk, etc.

8. Family Pets.

9. Foods.

Take pictures of your family's favorite meals, desserts or snacks. It's even fun to take photos of the receipes that didn't work.

10. Working on Projects.

We have always enjoyed camping, but for many years it was in a tent. Several years ago we rebuilt my inlaw's motor home -oh how I love camping now! The pictures of the "work in progress" are a sweet reminder of the time we spent working together.

11. Family purchases.

This may seem silly, but I remember as a teenager our family saving to buy an adding machine for a home business that we all helped with. When we finally saved enogh money, we all went to buy it together. Anything you do as a family, makes it worth remembering.

12. Hobbies.

For me, hobbies come and go. I used to love to tole paint, then I moved on to china dolls, ceramics...the list goes on and on. Wished I had pictures of some of my creations that I gave away.

Project 365 with MemoryMixer - January

To create a clean or more simple style, I simply replaced the background on one of the pages in the QuickMix with a color (I used white) and then selected "apply to all pages". Then I removed any remaining paper pieces and added a shape under the month. Here are the pages that I created, feel free to "Mix" it up your way.

Don't worry if you haven't, it's not too late. We thought you might be interested in some of the questions we've been getting at the office.

What is Project 365?

Project 365 is simply taking a photo a day. Yes, pictures of the ordinary days... they are the days that make up our lives. I've heard so many of our customers say it is their favorite book, they couldn't believe how many things they had forgotten.

Can I use my cell phone to take pictures?

Yes, that is the secret for me. The quality may not be as good, but the memories are worth it. A bad photo is better than no photo.

What do I take pictures of?

Anything from big events to the every day activities. You'll be surprised at how quickly you get the hang of it. On the 20th of every month we will list 12 new photo ideas.

What if I miss a day?

I have missed a day or two here and there, but I look forward to the year in pictures that I am creating. I know at the end of the year I won't be sad that I missed a few days, but I would be sad if I missed another year.

If you are using our Project 365 QuickMix, and you miss a day simply delete a photo box off the page and make the other photos bigger or add more journaling.

Am I too late to start?

No, just start today or tomorrow and do your best:).

Will there be monthly QuickMixes?

What do I do at the end of the year?

I love mornings, Sundays, the 1st of each month and especially a new year. They all signify a fresh start, a second chance, an opportunitity to do a little better. I can't wait to see what this new year holds, but more importantly I want to be able to remember the details of it. One of my goals includes Project 365. If you haven't heard of Project 365 you simply take a photo a day and drop it into a MemoryMixer album. At the end of the year you will have a collection of photos reminding you of the little things that we are blessed with every day.

I have loved hearing what Mixer's have said about their project 365 albums in prior years. One mother summed it up perfectly...it is my family's favorite book, we couldn't believe how much we had forgotten.

Our lives are busy, but I kow that as we take a few minutes to capture the little moments, our lives will be filled with rich memories.
