We know that it’s tough to stay on track when it comes time to celebrate holidays, especially ones that involve lots of eating and drinking. With Fat Tuesday here, a holiday more well known as Mardi Gras, it is possible that you may find yourself in a situation where you will be going out with friends and may feel the temptation to do a little cheating. Well, here are some tips on ways to have fun today, and make sure you are still moving forward with our diet plan!</p>
<p> </p>
<ol>
<li>Go to Mardi Gras events that are happening during the      day. In the daytime, and closer to the afternoon, you will be less tempted      to want to order drinks. This is especially crucial during our first and      second stages, where you can’t have alcohol of any kind. </li>
<li>Are you going over to a friend’s house for a party?      This could be a sticky situation, where you’ll find yourself in a room      full of fried chicken and fatty dips. Want to make sure you eat something      healthy and Ideal Protein Diet appropriate? No problem! Just call the host      of the party, and suggest that you help out with some of the food. Bring      over some the food suggestions from the ‘Tips, Ideas and Suggestions’ Diet      Clinic Folder you received when you signed up with the program! You can      arrive with yummy soups and hot tea, that you can have and others can also      enjoy. </li>
<li>If you really want to go out on the town, bring along      a supportive friend. Although it might sound more fun to go out with a      friend who enjoys to party and eat at midnight after a night of drinking,      it will be a better idea to go with someone who understands how important      your new diet is to you, and who will encourage you to stay on track. </li>

<p>More than 35 million heart-shaped boxes of chocolate will be  sold for Valentine's Day this year, but you’d have to do the tango for  16 hours straight to <a href="http://www.shape.com/fitness/workouts/dance-offthe-fat-how-many-calories-do-they-burn-dancing-stars" target="_blank">burn off the calories</a> in one large box!</p>
<p>If you plan on cheating today, consider whipping up one of these decadent but heart-protective treats for yourself or your sweetie:</p>
<p><strong>Heart Hug Sundae</strong><br />A  ½ cup scoop of ice cream made from coconut milk, topped with 1 cup red  raspberries, and 2 tablespoonds sliced almonds, garnished with organic  edible flowers.</p>

The type of fat found in coconut milk is rich, but is actually heart healthy. It’s been shown to lower the “bad” <a href="http://www.shape.com/blogs/weight-loss-coach/delicious-heart-healthy-valentine%E2%80%99s-day-treats#" id="KonaLink0" style="text-decoration: underline !important; position: static; font-family: inherit !important; font-weight: inherit !important; font-size: inherit !important;"><span style="color: blue;">cholesterol</span></a>,  up the “good” cholesterol, rev up metabolism, and reduce waist  circumference. Coconuts also contain antioxidants similar to those found  in berries, grapes, and dark chocolate.</p>
<p>•<strong><a href="http://www.shape.com/healthy-eating/meal-ideas/5-healthy-and-delicious-ways-eat-raspberries" target="_blank"> </a><a href="http://www.shape.com/healthy-eating/meal-ideas/5-healthy-and-delicious-ways-eat-raspberries" target="_blank">Raspberries</a>.</strong> A  member of the rose family, raspberries are rich in vitamin C and  they’re one of the highest fiber fruits, providing a whopping 8 grams  per cup—over 30 percent of the recommended daily intake. A classic fiber  study concluded that for every gram of fiber we eat, we eliminate about  seven calories, and research in Brazilian dieters found that over a 6  month period, each additional gram of fiber resulted in an extra quarter  pound of weight loss. Also, the natural chemical responsible for  raspberries’ mouthwatering aroma is similar to capsaicin, the substance  that puts the heat in hot peppers and has been shown to fire up  metabolism.</p>
<p>• <strong><a href="http://www.shape.com/healthy-eating/diet-tips/five-healthiest-nuts" target="_blank">Almonds</a>.</strong> They’re incredibly heart healthy for a handful of reasons. Almonds’  good unsaturated fat has been shown to improve cholesterol profiles, and  they’re incredibly nutrient rich, supplying fiber, protein, vitamin E,  antioxidants, calcium, magnesium and potassium. Almonds also boost  satiety, so you feel fuller longer, and they’re linked to weight loss.  One study found that a low-calorie, almond-enriched diet helped  overweight people shed more pounds than a low-calorie diet higher in  complex carbohydrates. The almond eaters experienced a 62 percent  greater reduction in their body weight, a 50 percent greater loss in  waist circumference, and a 56 percent greater loss of body fat.</p>
<p>•<strong> Edible flowers.</strong> Like fruits, edible flowers are rich in vitamin C and other  antioxidants. Just be sure they’re marked as edible and grown without  pesticides.</p>
