Happy Meals to feature ID badge as a toy!

Kids chowing down on McDonalds Happy Meal toys in Qatar will soon be able to wear thier very own ID badge just like mom and dad. McDonalds has teamed up with Spy Gear to hand out cool kids size spy gear including the retractable ID badge.

Note: While this is a pretty cool toy, I doubt we will carry this in our next catalog!

Making sure doctors and nurses wash their hands is the first line of defense against infections in hospitals. But health care workers often get too busy or just forget to do it. A study published in 2004 in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that only 57% of doctors always washed their hands between visiting patients.

The University of Miami-Jackson Health System in Florida is using RFID (radio frequency identification) chips try and fix the problem.

Hospital workers receive an ID badge that contains a tiny RFID tag from Versus Technology that transmits infrared signals encoded with a unique ID number. When they push the button on a soap or hand-sanitizer dispenser, a sensor on the dispenser scans for an IR signal and captures the badge’s ID number.

It then transmits the number, along with the date, time and the location, to a computer. The system measures how much time passes between when the soap button was pushed and the health worker arrives at the patient’s bed, usually about 20 seconds.

A sensor at the patient’s bed checks to see if the badge’s owner has recently washed his or her hands. If not, a computer-generated voice warns the physician or nurse by name to wash their hands.

European Youth Olympic Festival chooses RFID ID passes

UPM Raflatac will supply RFID inlays for access control in support of the July 18th – 25th European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in Tampere, Finland.

All authorised individuals involved in the upcoming event will be issued integrated UPM Raflatac RFID tag identification passes. The identification cards will facilitate access to e.g. accommodation, dining and competition venues. Moreover, the RFID tag passes will allow access to free usage of the public transportation system in Tampere. click here to read more

Lack of student badging

Just 16% of K-12 schools actually badge students and staff, according to a recently-released nationwide survey of the American Association of School Administrators. More significantly, there is a surprising difference in this rate among regions of the country.

While 16% of respondents said staff and students are badged, another 35% reported that staff only are badged. Some 20% say badges exist but aren’t enforced and 28% don’t use badges at all. Just 4% of the western states, such as California and Washington, reported badging students and staff. Compare that to a high of nearly 26% of respondents in the northeast, such as New York and Connecticut. Additionally, about 45% of responders from the western states say badges aren’t used at all. Happy Earth Day from everyone at The IRIS Companies and Attachmentville where every day is Earth Day!

· Single side printed sheets of paper are reused for in-house document printing or scrap paper.

· Reuse shipping boxes

· Paperclips: yep…we recycle them too

Have you ever wondered what happens to the old ID card printer that you traded in for a shiny new one? Well, if you traded it to IRIS, you can be assured that it didn’t just go into a landfill. Every component that arrives at our location is checked for useful spare parts (for printers where parts are no longer available) and then stored for a semi annual trip to a professional recycling facility.

Twice a year, the local government (Berks County ) runs an electronics recycling event. This is the perfect place to recycle old ID card printers, Polaroid film based camera systems and non functional computers. At this year’s event, over 100 electronic items were spared from the trash pile.

Woman donates $5000 for ID system

woman recently donated $5000 towards a visitor management system for her local school system. The generous donation was made in honor of her late husband and will be installed in school system that her grandson attends. The new system will allow the school to not only track visitors in to their buildings, but will also alert officials to unwanted visitors such as registered criminals or other banned persons.
