Actually I've been around but neglected this blog for a while. I've been busy on a project to help parents and their teens in my native language : Flemish.

Child focus published a report about kids on the internet. They spend about 91% of their online-time on chatting, gaming and sms. Only 9% is doing something on the internet, like blogging or publishing something on a site.

I asked myself this question : As a parent we should be an inspiring example for our kids, are you as a parent active on the internet? I am, I'm a blogger, writer of free reports and coach using web2.0 technologies to bring the information I have to my readers and viewers.

I'm going to list some entrepreneurs investing money, time and effort in alternatives. Business people thinking outside the box.

The first on this list is James Dyson. He is best known as the inventor of the bag less vacuum cleaner, which works on the principle of cyclonic separation.

After the Dyson Vacuumcleaner came the Airblade. It can dry your hands in just 10 seconds and doesn't waste energy on heating air. In standby mode it uses 80% less energy than conventional hand dryers.

The new goal for Dyson is to develop a solar powered car. The idea is to improve range by the energy provided by roof mounted solar panels. In all his communication he speaks about "electric cars should work properly."

That gives us high hopes for a fast, fun and practical electrical car. An affortable alternative for the tesla car? Move on James!!!

I'm not saying this invention showed in the video is working, but I know even when my clients are ready to change it is a difficult thing to do. And I'm thinking about business people who ask me to help them change.

Can you imagine if scientists would be forced to change the laws of physics!?

Think about the impact of an invention as this. Imagine what a change of power this could provoke, when we think in terms of control over the production of energy!?

What would be the role of institutions in the near future? Are they going to try controle regulate more? Or will institutions support&fund creative thinking like this in the future?

If we can't rely on our governments because they love to wait and see, they still think they can ignore better alternative solutions. Even when we accept that market forces and free markets will not always regulate the market for the best, leaving our future in the hands of debating politicians will not help us save the planet.

As you can see in the video (AUGUST 21, 2007!!!) the solutions are there and ready to apply, but a reasonable and thoughtful government is until now (science) fiction. Yet when we want to save the future for us and next generations bigger private investments will be necesarry.

It is indeed easy to become the bad guy in this world. But even in the old days long before the internet en Web2.0 technology was created, my grandmother said to me : "It takes only one thing to ruin your reputation but a lifetime building it."

I read somewhere that most people do the opposite of what they have been told.

So here are the 3 fastest ways to loose all you've got, and you better keep them in mind.

Cheat on your partners, I used the word "partners" because this gives you the freedom to apply this powerful tool in work and personal life. What will happen : People will find out and blow the whistle, it makes them feel as the small hero bringing down the mean dictator. Governments are paying the whistle-blowers rewards from 10 to 30% of the recovery, this is a motivation, isn't it?
Lie to your costumers. Really powerful especially in a Web2.0 environment. What will happen : Do you really believe you can hide a secret with all these snoopies, bloggers, virtual reporters, competitors investigating you to find your weak spots? Do you remember the latest Sad Dell Story? An unhappy client started complaining on his blog about the weak performances of Dell laptop warranty repair service. Break your promises. What will happen : They will not forget what you've promised, everything you say today will be recorded instantly, printed or published on the internet. I test a lot of ecological products and must say many do not meet expectations. I feel mistreated and misinformed when a wonderful green product isn't working. Last week I saw a documentary on Round Up and it really struck me to find out this product isn't biodegradable.(It is mentioned on the package) In a way it is, if you can wait 70 years. Hé, this is not what I call biodegradable. Liars, cheaters and criminals that is what I think about Monsanto.

Normally the garbage-truck comes every two weeks to empty our paper, bottle/can garbage container. We're lucky, when available we buy unpacked products, eat most vegetables from our own organic garden and buy our meet from our (farmer) neighbors.
But there are always some things that you cannot buy without packaging. Water for example, I know there are many people who believe in drinking water from the tap but personally I think water has a taste. There is water I like to drink and water which I find absolutely undrinkable.

Why this introduction?
French fishermen are blocking French harbors because they find oil prices too high and they demand a compensation from the government. The garbage-services are on strike because they don't wanna hear from the new retirement arrangements announced by the Sarkozy government.

As a result the paper, bottle/can garbage container hasn't been emptied for 6 weeks. And now it's full. The question rises, where to go with all the paper and plastic bottles for the next two weeks?
Burn it? -> Stinks, is bad for your health, pollutes the air.
Dig a hole in the ground and throw it in? -> And then what? Wait for 7 to 7000 years until the garbage will have decomposed?
Throw it out of the car window as they do in Naples? -> Mmm, Berlusconi and Sarkozy both share the same lack of creativity. And I don't really fancy a army guarded dumping ground either.

So what about compressing, reducing? If we could already reduce the volume of our recyclable waste. That would mean that garbage trucks could transport more garbage and wouldn't need any additional energy to compress it in the truck.

It's OK to have a laugh and if you look to the end you even find a better solution!

The need for new leadership.

I've been out for a while. I had no computer or internet connection where I was and it helped me to get a clearer view on what I was doing.

Oh yes, there wasn't any television or radio, hard to imagine?! I was in God's country, nature. Touching trees, making long walks and looking at the free horses that accompanied me.

What makes a man a good leader?

He creates things
He changes things
He finds resources
He gets the mission defined
He creates an environment
He needs managers
He interacts with outsiders and inspires people
He uses influence, convinces, shows the direction

STOP that's the man we all need in these changing times. Only He can and will save our planet. Are you such a leader?

Or as in Funky Business Forever: How to Enjoy Capitalism (Financial Times):"...technology is changing and will continue to change faster than any government can issue regulations to control it."

Every day I hear Business Owners say : "What will be the next step? How can I stay on track? What will happen if we can't control it?"

This is fear, there are no rules anymore, you have to find out how to get along. With your clients, customers, employees. But also with your students, family and children. That's it.

Ridderstrale & Nordström mention 3 drivers moving us forward into the unknown, naming changes in technology, institutions and values.
This means that we all have to find out for ourselves how we will manage our lives and businesses.

A good question asked by Eckhart Tolle in A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life's Purpose (Oprah's Book Club, Selection 61) : "What about turning choosing from being chosen to do something?" You have to serve your soul. What is your mission? If you think about your children's future, are you helping to build a better place for them?" Making this place healthier can be an inspiring guidance.

Look for the green light, with your eyes open to the future... three, two, one GO!!!

Economy Back on Track

What did I write in my previous post?

"What about 1973?" First real oil crises. US did not take this opportunity to change the economy. Even in the mid seventies Japanese cars used only half as much petrol compared to American cars.

What I read today on Yahoo!news by JEANNINE AVERSA, AP Economics Writer
"Even though Bernanke has made clear the Fed's top priority — for now — is trying to get the economy back on track, he also says he remains mindful of inflation risks, especially from high energy prices".

Oil prices have reached new record highs, galloping past $100 a barrel in recent days. High energy prices can spread inflation by boosting the costs of a wide variety of other goods and services and can put a further damper on overall economic growth by crimping consumer spending.
Fears have grown that the country is heading for a recession or is already in one.
Are we talking about oil again ? Are we going to take the opportunity this time ?
Imagine if the USA and the European Community would make the change now from oil-based to renewable energy economy!!!

By the way, taking action can be very powerful !

For example, China started their family control policies in the 1970s and it boosted prosperity. Now blinded by wealth, luxury and a "money can buy you anything" mentality they start thinking about canceling the one-child policy. It all started because world's biggest population strained scarce land, water and energy resource. And oil ???
