Easter Worship Services (and an Easter Egg Hunt)

Here’s some news about our upcoming worship services – and an Easter Egg Hunt – at Capilano United.

This coming Sunday, April 5, 10:30AM
Palm Sunday.

We’ll begin with a palm parade in church, and then the children will present a re-enactment of Jesus’ last supper with his followers.

There will be no Sunday School this day.

It will also be Kristi Rapoza’s last Sunday with us as she finishes her studies and heads into final exams and summer employment.

at Saint David’s United Church, Taylor Way at the Upper Levels Highway

Once again we will join with Saint David’s for this solemn remembrance of Jesus’ crucifixion.

Easter Sunday, 10:30AM

A special service celebrating Jesus’ resurrection – affirming God’s, “Yes!” to life against the powers of pain and death.

Easter Egg Hunt
Saturday, April 11, 10:00AM

Everyone zero to 5 years old is invited to Capilano United’s Easter Egg Hunt.

It will be held in the playground beside the Church.

Admission is a donation of a non-perishable food item.

The Last Week of Jesus' Life

Last Sunday, March 1, we began a worship series at Capilano United focusing day by day on the last week of Jesus’ life.

March 1 began with his last Sunday – the day we call Palm Sunday.

This coming Sunday will continue with his last Monday; March 15 with Tuesday; and so on up to Easter Sunday, April 12th.

I have also be meeting with the children on Wednesdays after school to help prepare a re-enactment of Thursday, which is the day Jesus ate his last supper with his followers. The kids are a great group to meet with. They are learning a lot and bring great energy and enthusiasm for the project.

As I have been preparing for this series, I have discovered that taking a closer, day by day, look at the last week of Jesus’ life has given me some helpful new ways of understanding his death – and hence of his resurrection. This is a powerful and troubling story that touches on our own struggles for finding hopes that we can trust without hesitation; hopes that are truly trustworthy and can guide us through all of our changing circumstances. I hope you’ll be able to join us for worship, Sundays at 10:30.

Particularly on April 5 for the children’s presentation, and on Easter Sunday, April 12.

Cap Kids, Wednesdays, 3:30 - 4:30PM

The children and teens of our Capilano United families - and their friends - and invited to meet with David for an after school program on Wednesdays, 3:30 to 4:30PM, starting February 11 until April 1 (with a break during Spring Break).

The children will help me plan and prepare a re-enactment of the Last Supper that Jesus had with his followers. I have an outline of what that meal would have been like, but I need the children to help me organize it for a Sunday worship. Together, we'll present this for the congregation's worship on Palm Sunday, April 5.

We’ll have fun and I think it will also give us time to talk together about the most important part of Jesus’ life.

Two Sevices on Christmas Eve, December 24:

A special time designed for young children and all their friends and family.

Come as you are and a play a part in the telling of the story of first Christmas.

7:00PM - Traditional Lessons, Carols and Candles

Special music, familiar carols, and the warm glow of candles.

Kris Kringle Christmas Craft Market and Tea

Advance notice to everyone interested in participating in this year's Kris Kringle Christmas Craft Market and Tea at Capilano United Church.

We expect the return of many favourite crafts and artisans from past years and some new features.

The rate for crafters who rent tables remains unchanged from last year: $30 / table.

Day trip invitation to Carol’s cottage – Keats Island
Saturday, September 27th

You and your family are invited to
spend the day up at our family
cottage on Keats Island
(behind Bowen Island) in
the Howe Sound.

Access to the island is by boat
only so we have the option of
using BC Ferries (Horseshoe Bay
to Langdale) plus public water taxi; or rent a private water taxi from Horseshoe Bay.

Approximate travelling cost would range from $15.00 - $40.00 / person return (depending on the mode of transportation used)

There aren’t any stores on
this island and only two
roads, so life here is pretty
lay back. But as you can see,
it’s a nice place to relax and
enjoy the view. There’s some
nice trails to meander through
the forest, or if you’re more
venturesome, there is a small hill to climb to enjoy a 360-degree view of Howe Sound.

We have electricity, running water, fridge, stove, micro-wave, stereo, and tv.

The most exciting news for the fall is that WayAware is getting a brand new look!

We will no longer be limited to having programs happening Mondays and Fridays.

Get ready for...

WayAware ProjX is a brand new structure that will help us to move beyond just games and movies, and get way...aware of what it means to follow in the footsteps of Jesus.

It's going to kick off with the big event called “Go Make A Difference” on Sunday, September 21st from 3-8:30pm which will get everyone motivated and connected.

Then, throughout the year, individuals will have opportunities to be involved in short-term projects.

Youth and church communities will be challenged to interact with one another and the world in the same way as Jesus and his disciples did ... by serving others.

Expect more than fun and games. Expect a deepened awareness, a heightened sense of self and a hunger for justice and understanding in our world and our communities.

And expect to have fun doing it!

On Sunday, September 21st at 3pm, be you a youth, young adult, older adult, parent, grandparent, teacher, minister, carpenter, musician, dancer, firefighter or shepherd ... plan to come to Highlands United Church so that you can go out and make a difference!

In honour of Saint Francis of Assisi, the Patron Saint of animals, our Sunday morning worship, October 5th, will be transformed into a special service to celebrate and bless the pets who add so much to our lives.

All pets - and their family and friends are invited: cats, dogs, birds, gerbils, ... all are welcome.

For the safety and comfort of everyone, we ask that pets be on a short leash or in a cage.

We look forward to seeing you there!
