Capilano United Church is seeking a new minister, effective July 1, 2010.

The position is a full-time, two year appointment with the goal of assisting the congregation to develop a vision and plan for its future. Click here for the position description.

Annual Meeting, February 21, 2010

The Annual Meeting of Capilano United Church will be held following worship on Sunday, February 21, 2010. Business will include receiving reports for 2009 including the financial report, election of Board members, committees and Trustees, and approving the budget for 2010.

This is an important meeting at this time in the life of the congregation, so please plan to come and be part of the discussion and decisions.

Congregation Meeting, Jan. 31

A special meeting of the congregation of Capilano United will be held following worship on Sunday, January 31, 2010 for the purpose of receiving and acting on the report of the Joint Needs Assessment Committee regarding the future ministry of Capilano United. Printed copies of the JNAC report will be available at worship, January 24 and 31.

Everyone is reminded that only those who have been formally received as members of Capilano United are eligible to vote.

The Church Office and any Board Member (Marion Sebastion, Carol Sawyer, Laurel Coard, Jan Kocaba, Sandi McIntosh-Kocaba) has the record of who is listed in our Membership Roll. Please contact them if you are uncertain of your membership status.

And please request to become a member if that is your desire. The Board will meet following worship on January 24 to consider all requests received.

If you have ever been a member of any church before, the practice of the United Church of Canada is simply to receive you as a member of Capilano as a “Transfer.” If you have never been a member of any church before, then we ask that you indicate that you indeed are wanting to be a member of Capilano United. Please contact me directly about this and I will explain in more detail what is involved.

Office Closed for Christmas

There will be no worship at Capilano United on Sunday, December 27th. We encourage everyone to join the folks at St. David's United. Note that St. David's worship is at 10:00 AM.

The minister, David Ewart, will be away on vacation December 27 to January 2. Please contact him at his cell number if there is an emergency.

The Capilano United Church office will be closed until the New Year, January, 5, 2010.

We pray that everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Our famous, not to be missed, Capilano Meat Pies are ready to go, and baked goods will stock the Bake Table Saturday morning. Come early as these sell out quickly.

We are also looking for donations to the Silent Auction. Do you have a service, gift basket, or other special item that you could donate to be auctioned? And don’t forget to set aside those extra items from your garage, attic, or storage room that would be wonderful additions to the White Elephant Sale. These can be brought to the Church Office during the week, or on Friday evening.

Vendors and community groups have reserved all the tables so there will be a great variety of crafts, gifts, and games.

And once again, the Tea Room will offer a delicious hot lunch and a place to rest and visit with friends and neighbours.

We are expecting this will be another successful event for our neighbourhood – our 20th Anniversary.

KRIS KRINGLE FAIR
NOVEMBER 14, 2009

I am looking for volunteers FOR NOVEMBER 7, 2009 to help with the production of
our famous Capilano Stew Meat Pies.

This can be by way of making the stew ahead of time or helping assemble on the 7th. Please let me know as soon as possible what you can do.

We always have lots of fun at the assembly process so come and join us for good fellowship and lots of laughs.

ALSO, I am looking for baked goods to sell at our baked goods table. Please let me know if you can help out in this area.

ALSO looking for volunteers to man the bake table on November 14, 2007.

Time is galloping away so if you can let me know as quickly as possible that would be
great. Thank you all for your help in the area.

Community Survey

Capilano United Church's minister David Ewart is retiring in June 2010.

As part of the process to find a new minister, Capilano United decided to take the initiative to get to know its community better.

It is a very exciting time of change but it also brings new and difficult challenges.

Pemberton Heights is a very unique community and Capilano United needs your input to understand the ever changing community's needs.

We are hopeful that this first step will take us on the journey to start building a stronger relationship with the community we serve.

This survey will take no more than 5 minutes.
