Suburban Cleveland Politics Getting Ugly; Op-Ed

I opened my residential University Heights mailbox to this, today;

(I consolidated it.)

"He has been a councilman for only 1.5 years, and has no in-depth concept of running a city. He is only interested in the bottom line, but a city is much more than that.

Is he the kind of person you want leading this city beginning in 2010? He does not care, nor is he interested in the more than 30 programs, in addition to basic services we offer."

This is her "goodbye" letter to the residents of University Heights.How does she know that Frank Consolo (The "he" in her nasty letter) doesn't care about the city. Is she a mind-reader?

I was most likely going to vote for Mr. Consolo anyway, but now I am for sure.

At least Mr. Consolo and two other councilman and councilwomen including Frankie Goldberg and Pete Bernardo stepped up to the plate when I was having a major zoning issue going on with a neighbor who built a barn next door to my suburban home.

I support Consolo for Mayor of University Heights.

I also support Frankie Goldberg for council. Peter Bernardo is up for reelection, and I support him, too!

Women Impacting Public Policy CEO Barbara Kasoff To Address Women Business Owners Oct. 28th

A broad cross section of women business leaders across the region will participate in a panel discussion about today’s changing economic times and the policies that are important to women business owners. Attendees will get the information, tools and resources needed to grow a business and compete successfully for public/private sector contracts.

The keynote speaker is Barbara Kasoff, President and CEO and Co-Founder of Women Impacting Public Policy, Inc., a non-profit, bi-partisan public policy advocacy organization with over half a million members, including 49 business organizations, educating and advocating on economic issues for women in business. Kasoff will provide insight on the Economic Blueprint, Washington’s decisions on policy and the Give Me Five 5% Program.

The cost to attend the networking session and lunch program is $45; students/young professionals (up to 30 years of age) are $25. Opportunities are available for sponsorship, committee/advisor, volunteer and marketing advertisements.

Cleveland Jobs; Knowledge College Is Searching For Tutors

Knowledge College, Inc. provides a free after-school tutoring program for students in urban school districts. Thanks to generous funding of the No Child Left Behind Act, Knowledge College tutors can help close the achievement gap and guide children onto successful careers and higher institutions of learning.

They are looking for great people that can help us at one of 30 Cleveland Metropolitan Schools we service. Tutoring will take place in the school buildings every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday immediately following school. Candidates must be able to work all four days for at least two hours per day. Depending on the school, tutoring could begin at 2:30 pm or 4:00 pm. It's a plus if candidates can work both time slots on all four days.

Compensation per hour is very attractive and based on education levels and experience.

FirstEnergy "Free" Lightbulb Program Scrapped; Angry Customers Feel Misled

I posted this article about FirstEnergy's Free distribution of CFL's on Tuesday, after finding it over at Ohio.com.

So much for "Free"

Seems like there was a little issue with the word Free...Some customers found out that they would be charged for them.

The furor followed FirstEnergy's announcement Monday that it would hand deliver or mail 3.75 million compact fluorescent bulbs to homes and small commercial customers, beginning Monday.

Do you think folks around here don't like free stuff? The post on Tuesday brought a lot of traffic to this blog.
