Cold Winter Day

Winter has definitely descended upon us in Lotus Land. With minus Celcius temps, it's freezing outside! We've now been in our new place for a couple of weeks and each day Bella makes several visits to the pet area in the complex and as we were returning from our morning visit yesterday, we stopped at the mail boxes to pick up our mail and there was this beautiful card that Kathleen had sent to welcome us to our new home.

The card is exquisite with the detail to the colouring and blending and the Framed Tulips Embossing Folder adding the perfect frame for the picture.

Thanks Kathleen for the beautiful card and giving me something to post! It's been so long because of our move and downsizing is always a challenge - especially if you're a SU demonstrator! It's amazing all the stamps and supplies one accumulates over the years - I didn't know I had that set! Sound familiar?

Happy New Year 2012

We spent Christmas and Boxing Day with Jen in Bellevue as it's becoming customary that on Boxing Day - guess who is in the line-up outside Crate & Barrel? While they don't have Boxing Day in the US it felt like it as all the stores were filled with shoppers looking for even more bargains. But the best is at Crate & Barrel as I generally add to the ornaments to my Christmas tree and pick up other fantastic holiday decor at rock bottom prices. I always say that it is my favourite store and I'm not alone as walking through the aisles I heard that expressed by other shoppers to their shopping buddies.

After our early morning hit at the store we went back later after dinner and ran right into the preparation for the Snowflake Lane show. It runs from November 25 to December 24 and then December 26 to December 31 and lasts for half an hour. It's just one block on Bellevue Way between 7th and 8th and it is so joyful as the band of high school students line the block on both sides of the street and the drummers play along with recorded music like Celebration from Kool and the Gang and other popular songs.

Stamping has been on the back burner for the past couple of months but I'm looking forward to stamping with you as we enter Sale-A-Bration and all the wonderful new delights in the Occasions Mini this week.

Everyday Elegance

At our recent SAS, one of the cards we made was this one.

We stamped the sentiment and image (Lovely as a Tree) using Versamark Ink and heat embossed with White Embossing Powder. A strip of the Vanilla Velvet ribbon and some pearls finished the card and it make a lovely elegant holiday card. The card comes up beautifully in the Cherry Cobbler.

Quick Gift Card Holders

Oh yes - I'm still around - lol. with the holiday season, it's so busy with events that I haven't been able to do much stamping - but I needed some quick gift card holders for an event I had last week and made these up using last year's DSP's.

And inside is the gift card

Cut two pieces of card stock. One piece measures 4 1/2" x 5 3/4" and the other 4 1/2" x 2 1/2". On the larger piece, score at 1" and 3 3/4", on the smaller piece, score at 1". Apply Sticky Strip to one of the 1" pieces along the two short sides and the bottom fold and seal together. This will hold the gift card.

Decorate the outside with DSP cut 4 1/4" x 1" and 4 1/4" x 1 3/4". Cut a piece of card stock 1" x 6 1/4" for the belly band and fold around the outside of the gift card. Punch out a piece of card stock with the Small Square Scallop Punch. Stamp sentiment and punch out with the 1" square punch and adhere to the scallop square punched piece and attach to the belly band.

Snow Swirled Pop Up

It seems the star of my post yesterday was not my card but my sweet, Bella, whose picture was in my blog post yesterday as I received several emails about her. She's so loveable and follows me all over and when I have to go out she looks at me with the saddest eyes and makes it very difficult to leave her.

There's no new photo of her today but perhaps in the next week or so. In the meantime I'll share with you this pop card made with the Snow Swirled stamp set and the best Christmas tree image. Not a traditional holiday color, but I just love Black and the flocked sheet from the Mocha Morning DSP seemed like a good choice for this card.

Here's the pop up inside the card. The angle at which the picture was taken distorts the color of the snowflakes.

The card was a 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" square, with the inside Basic Gray card stock at 4" x 8 1/8". The pop up piece was cut 1" on each side from the centre line and 1" across. The tree image was stamped with Versamark on Black card stock and embossed with the Pewter Embossing Powder. After the tree was trimmed with the Paper Snips, it is attached to the pop up piece with SNAIL and a rhinestone was added as the tree topper.

The snowflakes were also stamped with Versamark and heat embossed with the Pewter powder.

Snow Much Fun

This set is great to make a variety of holiday cards with all the different images.

Quick and easy to make with the great embossing folders and on this one, we used the Houndstooth folder. The snowman is nattily dressed in a coat of dazzling diamonds.

Oops, while I was taking the pictures yesterday, Bella wanted to have her picture taken too so she posed for this one.

Scallop Dasher

At my annual Holiday Stamp a Stack, we made 10 cards and I couldn't resist not using Dasher in one of the cards.

Made it into a Scallop Easel card

Pink Pirouette is the base color for the card. How it's made:

Cut 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" and fold in half for 5 1/2" x 4 1/4". Place the fold four scallops down from the top of the Scallop Circle die and run it through the Big Shot
Cut another piece of Pink Pirouette 4 3/4" x 4 3/4" and cut another Scallop Circle through the Big Shot
Cut a piece of Black card stock 4" x 4" and use the large scallop from the Scallop Circle #2 die and run through the Big Shot
Cut a piece of Whisper White card stock 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" and use the 3" Circle die and run through the Big Shot
On the folded Pink Pirouette card, score 1/2 way down from the top to create the fold for the easel.
Place the Pink Pirouette large scallop circle in the New Snow Burst Embossing Folder from the Holiday Mini and roll it through the Big Shot
Use a sponge and gently apply some Frost White Shimmer Paint over the embossed scallop to give it the sparkly shine
Ink up Dasher with a Black Marker and stamp on the 3" Whisper White circle
Cover him up with some 2-Way Glue and dip in the Dazzling Diamonds
Add two Rhinestones around his neck
Adhere the Whisper White circle to the Black Scallop Circle with adhesive
Place dimensionals on the Black Scallop Circle and adhere to the Pink Pirouette large scallop circle
Apply adhesive to the bottom of the folded card front and position the large Pink Pirouette piece to it
Ink up the sentiment with Black inkk and color the word "bright" with a Pretty in Pink Marker
Punch it out with the Large Oval punch and adhere it to a punched Oval Scallop piece of Pink Pirouette
Add dimensionals to the back and place on the inside of the card to hold up the easel when the card is open
You're done!

Spice Cake Quilt

It's been a long time since I made one of these quilt cards and I was prompted to do so because I wanted to update my "quilt ring" of DSP's that help me with the colors that co-ordinate them them. While I do like pulling out my catalogue, it's much easier to look at the top-note quilt and check the back where I put the information of the DSP, i.e., catalogue, number, cost and co-ordinating colors.

More Mustard is one of the co-ordinating colors from the Spice Cake DSP in the Holiday Mini, so I used that as the base card. The front is textured with the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder and the top note quilt is popped on the front with dimensionals. The medallion is made with our new Simply Scored Scoring Tool (a must have!). The centre of the flower is a Build a Brad.

This is the ring that I use to hold my samples. I have to admit I have been a bit lax in the the past while and need to add more to it.

On the back is all the information I need for quick reference.
