Am I still a "cat person"? And what does it mean to be a "cat person"? Garrison Keillor of A Prairie Home Companion has said "Cats are intended to teach us that not everything in nature has a function." Will I become lazy? Will I be content, when I should be composing a blog post, to nap in a sunbeam? Will they accept me? I haven't thought much about that.

I have just returned from a visit with my brother. The weather was fantastic, a very early spring treat. Tourists and town residents took advantage and many of the outdoor tables were full.

My brother has two new young kittens. I'll post some pictures soon. My first day home, Tom's Cats circled me warily. However, within a half hour, Butter was on my lap and pawing my keyboard.

Yesterday I pulled down the screens and opened a few of the windows. Temperatures had soared into the 80's (Fahrenheit). The cats had a blast and were bolting from window to window with every new sound. I think a few insects had just emerged from hibernation and they were banging against the screens. A good time.

However, it is still early spring. This afternoon I spent a couple of hours planting a few early seed crops, Swiss chard and some more spinach. A light rain started to fall and temperatures plummeted to 50 (Fahrenheit). When I came in the cats were all huddled into one bed on the floor. I closed all the windows, and almost started a fire.

The creature, called Swamp Thing, was originally conceived as Alec Holland mutating into a vegetable-like creature, a "muck-encrusted mockery of a man". However, under writer Alan Moore, Swamp Thing was reinvented as an elemental entity created upon the death of Alec Holland, with Holland's memory and personality intact. He is described as "a plant that thought it was Alec Holland, a plant that was trying its level best to be Alec Holland."

In brief, Technorati tracks millions of blogs and lets users search them, tag them, and rank them. If you own a blog, or if you read them, I recommend signing up with Technorati (it's free and takes a couple minutes).
