Micron was recently recognized for its commitment to the environment at its Boise site. Boise Mayor David Bieter presented Micron with the annual EnviroGuard Award at the Boise WaterShed Environmental Education Center for its proactive approach to environmental protection.

"Micron has a longstanding commitment to being an environmental protection leader in our industry, and this honor certainly affirms our commitment," said Rick Murray, Micron's Water and Chemical Services Manager. "We routinely work with federal, state and local officials to ensure our continued regulatory compliance and environmental protection in our operations, and it's rewarding to see our team's collective efforts be recognized with this award."

A decade ago, Micron Technology strengthened its commitment to education by establishing the Micron Technology Foundation, Inc., a private, non-profit organization. Innovation in the Manufacturing Industry Innovation Summit

On Sept. 24, Micron participated in the Idaho Governor's Innovation Summit bringing together leaders from various industries to discuss how the state of Idaho can help turn ideas into careers and economic growth. Micron's Vice President of Process Research and Development, Scott DeBoer, represented Micron on the panel discussion related to innovation in the manufacturing industry. DeBoer talked about the significance of R&D in Idaho, the need for an education system that prepares students to think globally and focus on innovation and the importance for local government to influence U.S. policy to support companies focused on technology and innovation.

As part of the summit, Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter announced that Micron was awarded $5 million in federal stimulus funds to advance a program focused on emerging opportunities in light-emitting diode (LED) technology. No Joke! Attorney for Senator Al Franken Visits with the Micron PAC

Micron PAC members recently had a rare opportunity to participate in a private visit and discussion with Mark Elias, one of the top election law attorneys in the country. Elias has been involved in some interesting election work with some very interesting politicians, including lead counsel for former Saturday Night Live cast member and newly elected U.S. Senator Al Franken, D-Minn. Elias provided Micron PAC members a glimpse into what took place in the election and the subsequent fight to get Sen. Franken seated in the U.S. Senate.

Micron Workshop Helps Bring Math and Science to the Classroom

Each summer elementary teachers visit Micron to experience hands-on, real-world activities designed to excite students about science, technology, engineering and math. Nearly 40 teachers from the Emmett School District participated in the Micron Foundation’s Partnering to Spark a Passion for Math and Science workshop held Aug. 19-20.

During the two-day workshop, teachers are introduced to Micron’s curriculum resources and participate in the same lessons Micron employees conduct for students during classroom visits. The Micron Foundation also provides all participants an opportunity to apply for a financial grant to help them integrate the lessons and activities learned during the workshop into the classroom.

Micron's New Memory Modules Improve Server Performance and Capacity

On the technology front, Micron announced today its new LRDIMM memory modules that can triple server memory capacity and improve bandwidth by 57 percent. These new modules give servers the ability to run more programs, handle larger data files and perform better overall. And because the modules are made with Micron's leading-edge 2Gb 50nm DDR3 chips, servers not only get a boost to capacity and performance, they also can reduce their overall power consumption.

Micron Chip Camp Sparks a Passion for Science and Technology

Led by Micron engineers and scientists, more than 120 students from 40 different schools participated in the ninth annual Chip Camp held June 16-18 and June 23-25 in Boise. The Micron Foundation sponsors the free, hands-on science and technology camp designed for teens that have completed either seventh or eighth grade. The goal of Chip Camp is to expose students at a young age to the semiconductor industry, encouraging them to include math and science classes in their course selection during their high school years. Micron Volunteers Help Paint the Town

Micron encourages team members to positively impact their communities by volunteering time, energy, and resources. The Micron Foundation is pleased to announce that more than 30 Micron team members, families and friends volunteered their time Saturday, June 13, at the Paint the Town event in Boise. For the last 15 years, Micron volunteers have been participating in the effort to help paint and fix up a home of senior and disabled homeowners in Boise who are no longer able to maintain their homes.
