Usana Shares Drop Due To Lawsuits

Shares of Usana Health Sciences Inc. dropped Friday after several law firms announced purported class action suits Thursday, alleging the maker of nutritional and skin care products violated federal securities law.

Usana shares fell $4.26, or 8.5 percent, to $46.13 in afternoon trading on the Nasdaq Stock Market at more than double their average volume. Over the past year, shares climbed from a low of $35.06 in July to reach a high of $61.80 in mid-February.

The lawsuits, filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah, represent investors that bought the company's stock from July 18, 2006, when shares opened at $38.35, through March 14, when the stock closed at $58.77.
