Trend: Google search volume for QE3 and the price of gold appear to be correlated, reflecting the view that central bank debt monetization stimulates the value of precious metals. Lior Cohen at Trading Nrg searched in Google Trends for the term “QE3″ in the past couple of years for the shifts in the Google search volume around the world for the term QE3. The chart below shows the developments of the weekly search volume for the term “QE3″ between 2011 and 2012. It also shows progress of the price of gold throughout those years.<div class="feedflare">

Trend: Demand for oil continues to grow, while supplies continue to dwindle. Marin Katusa at Safehaven.com describes why oil prices won't go much lower. Reason 1: "The Big Pinch" Oil production levels, as well as exports, have been falling in most of the world's top ten supplier nations: The "Seven Sisters of Declining Exports" – Saudi Arabia, Iran, Nigeria, the UAE, Norway, Venezuela, and Kuwait – share one common characteristic: their oil fields are old. Oil fields don't produce the same amount year after year. They decline significantly from one year to the next because each barrel of oil taken from a reservoir reduces the pressure within the field, leaving less force available to push the next barrel of oil up the well. But don't take our word for it. The following chart shows production from Alaska's North Slope oil field in the past 30 years: Another example? The Cantarell...<div class="feedflare">

Trend: Central banks are creating money at an unprecendented rate, using "policies" like Quantitative Easing to try to boost economies and neutralize deflation. James Bianco at Bianco Research said: 2011 was so difficult because all stocks seemingly moved together. It was as if every S&amp;P 500 company had the same chairman of the board that knew only one strategy, resulting in a high degree of correlation between seemingly unrelated companies. Massive central bank involvement in the markets risks returning us to a de facto centrally planned economy. Those S&amp;P 500 companies all have the same chairman; it is Ben Bernanke because his policies are affecting everybody. That is what makes money management so difficult. Correlations will ebb and flow; they always do. But what makes them go away? This will only happen when governments and central banks go away. But if they go away, then does that not mean things...<div class="feedflare">

Trend: Generac (GNRC) profits from volatile weather and power outages. Many homes and businesses are buying electric generators to avoid being without electricity. When I was in Highlands, NC, on the Friday after Thanksgiving, I noticed that a bank building had a Generac generator located beside air conditioning units. Highlands, at 4100 feet elevation, often gets winter storms with snow and high winds. In late August 2011, hurricane Irene made landfall in the United States. Irene was also the first hurricane to make landfall anywhere along the U. S. East Coast from Florida to Maine since 2005. It was the first truly significant hurricane threat to the northeastern U.S. in two decades and, despite making final landfall there as a strong tropical storm, it was large in size and its impacts were severe in many highly-populated locations at the coast and inland from North Carolina to New England. High winds...<div class="feedflare">
