IRON MAIDEN Announces "Maiden England" North American Tour Dates

MUSIC NEWS- After their hugely successful Final Frontier World Tour 2010-11, IRON MAIDEN are back on the road this summer with a series of arena, amphitheatre and festival shows in the USA and Canada, opening in Charlotte, NC, on June 21, and wrapping up in Houston, TX, on August 18 (tour itinerary listed below), to be followed by further dates around the World in 2013.

The MAIDEN ENGLAND WORLD TOUR will closely mirror, in terms of production and content, the original 1988 concert video of the same name, shot on the “Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son Tour”. This opening section of the World Tour is the band’s most extensive visit to North America for many years and includes a number of cities the band have not played in a very long time, such as Charlotte, Atlanta, Buffalo, Indianapolis and Salt Lake City.

MAIDEN ENGLAND marks the third chapter in the History of Iron Maiden, a journey which began in 2004 with The Early Days DVD and subsequent 2005 Early Days Tour. Part Two followed in 2008 with the Live After Death DVD - the seminal 1984 concert recorded at Long Beach Arena (L.A) during the World Slavery Tour - and the band embarking on their groundbreaking Somewhere Back In Time World Tour 2008/9, which saw them play to over two million fans in almost 40 countries.

Commented vocalist Bruce Dickinson recently, “We have great fun playing the History of Maiden Tours because it gives us an opportunity between new albums to go out and play songs from our earlier catalogue. It’s always fantastic seeing the crowd reaction from a new generation of fans who have never experienced some of these tracks performed live before, and of course we know our longstanding fans will enjoy seeing the original Seventh Son Tour re-visited - with many other surprises! Our intention is to play about two thirds of the original track list of Maiden England (shown below*), including some songs we have not played live in a very,very long time, plus other favourites we just know the fans are going to want to hear! We always try to give our fans a great show musically, but we have always tried to make it as entertaining and memorable an experience as we can visually. And we all feel this show is going to do that splendidly! We can't wait to get started in Charlotte”.

Iron Maiden are delighted to announce that the extraordinary and legendary Alice Cooper** will be their Very Special Guest on all shows up to July 21. Then, their special guest will be Coheed and Cambria***, the inspired, cutting edge band from New York.

Iron Maiden continue to be actively dedicated to ensuring their fans always have full access to the best possible tickets in the fairest possible way. Manager Rod Smallwood comments:

“We are trying to ensure that our fans get the tickets they want in the prime positions without paying over the odds to ticket scalpers. Maiden get infuriated with the way fans sometimes have to pay more than the ticket price to get good positions at our shows. So we will, wherever possible (Festivals excluded), with the assistance of the Promoters, arrange a paperless ticketing system at least for the front sections to try to eliminate as much of the ticket scalping and exchanges as we can. We put this into practice on our North American Tour in 2010; it worked well and we received many positive comments back from our fans, so we intend to increase this where feasible. With paperless ticketing, only those who actually pay initially for the tickets will get into the show so scalping is generally avoided (please see the comments from Ticketmaster below). We are also doing everything we can to avoid any drain of prime tickets going to the Secondary Ticketing sites which we feel make unfair profits from music fans.

As we consider all our fans to be VIPs, no tickets will be held specifically for VIP use. At some venues, the Promoter may provide the option for fans to pay extra for “VIP Parking”, early access, access to “VIP Bar” etc. But these will be purely optional for ticket holders only and will not be tied to ticket locations – the ability to get the best tickets should be the same for everybody outside of the usual presales.

Finally, we are of course once again arranging exclusive ticket pre-sales for our fan club members so they can be quick off the mark for great tickets and will also continue to run the contest in appropriate venues for fan club members so they can be ‘First To The Barrier’ prior to the show. We hope that these measures will help our fans as much as possible and ask that they keep checking for details on our website.”

Bonnaroo 2012 Confirms Initial Line Up

MUSIC NEWS- Superfly Presents and A.C. Entertainment are excited to announce the initial lineup for the 2012 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. The 11th annual four-day camping and music festival will be held on June 7 thru 10 on the same 700-acre farm in Manchester, TN, 60 miles south of Nashville.

KIMBRA Set for Foster the People Tour

MUSIC NEWS - Warner Bros. Records artist Kimbra has been picked to support Foster the People on the group;s upcoming summer USA concert tour. The shows kick off May 29th with two nights at Rumsey Playfield in New York City's Central Park, and run through July 7th in Las Vegas, NV. The Kooks, Tokyo Police Club and Mayer Hawthorne will also be supporting on selected dates throughout the tour.

This year is likely to be a busy one for the 21 year-old New Zealand singer and songwriter. Prior to heading out with Foster the People, Kimbra will be performing at the SXSW Music Conference in Austin, TX March 13-17, after which she will be opening for Gotye on his nationwide run. That string of shows begins March 22nd in Washington, DC and will continue through April 12th in San Francisco, CA.

Kimbra is currently working on additional tracks for her debut album for Warner Bros. Records with such producers and songwriters as Mike Elizondo and Greg Kurstin. The release is set for summer 2012.

MUSIC NEWS- Today, Jack White released March concert info as he's on the road to promote his solo debut album, BLUNDERBUSS . The shows fill in his itinerary which already had him on the bill at the Sasquatch and Hangout festivals. The shows kick off at a Chattanooga, TN gig at Track 2n on March 10 and wrap up with White’s May 26 appearance at Sasquatch!

Tickets for the non-festival dates will go on sale February 17. White's also booked to appear at Radio 1’s Hackney Weekend in London.

Peter Frampton's Long Lost Guitar Returns to the Concert Stage

MUSIC NEWS- This week, on February 18 at NYC's Beacon Theater, Grammy winning guitarist Peter Frampton will play his restored 1954 Gibson Les Paul for the first time. The long-lost guitar, now dubbed The Lady Pheonix, was recently discovered on the Dutch Caribbean island of Curaçao after its disappearance in a plane crash 32 years ago. Frampton was reunited with the guitar in an emotional meeting in Nashville this past December. Now, with the help of the Gibson Guitar’s Custom Shop, Frampton will debut the recovered guitar during his NYC concert on his world tour celebrating the 35^th anniversary of multi-platinum selling live album Frampton Comes Alive!.

Back in 1980, a cargo plane carrying Frampton’s equipment for an upcoming show in Panama crashed, supposedly destroying all of the instruments on board including Frampton’s beloved guitar. The Curaçao Tourist Board helped acquire the guitar from an individual after hearing news that they may indeed have a lead on the long lost and beloved guitar. Together in Nashville, TN at the Gibson Custom Shop, with experts from Gibson Guitar and Peter Frampton, the team confirmed it was the original guitar long missing from Frampton’s collection.

Frampton’s custom guitar was given to him in 1970 by a man named Marc Mariana when Humble Pie played at the Fillmore West. Frampton borrowed Mariana’s guitar for the show and afterward tried to buy it from him, “But to my surprise he said he couldn't sell it to me—he wanted to give it to me!” he notes.

Frampton played the guitar exclusively on Humble Pie’s Rock On and Rocking the Fillmore albums. The guitar also appeared on a number of sessions for other artists including George Harrison, Jerry Lewis, Ringo Starr, Harry Nilsson, and John Entwistle. Most notably, Frampton played the guitar on the electrifying Frampton Comes Alive!, one of the top-selling live records of all time.

Frampton is thrilled to have the guitar back and to play it once again. “It was given to me, taken away from me via a fiery plane crash, then given back to me 31 years later. To think that I would ever play this guitar again is beyond belief. After some repairs have now been finished at Gibson in Nashville, I will be able to play it on stage at the Beacon Theater, NYC Saturday, 18th Feb. It will be one of those days I won’t forget as long as I live.”

BLACK SABBATH Reunion Tour in Jeopardy

MUSIC NEWS - Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward says he won't take part in the British band's reunion recordings and tour unless he is offered a "signable" contract. The statement on his website casts more doubt on the much-hyped return of the metal rockers, who announced last November that the original line-up were getting back together to write and record their first album in more than 30 years. They've also unveiled plans for a world concert tour in 2012.

With guitarist Tony Iommi diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma the band moved from the USA to Birmingham, UK to continue writing and recording. The founding members of the heavy metal pioneers are Ozzy Osbourne on vocals, Iommi, Geezer Butler on bass guitar and Ward.

"At this time, I would love nothing more than to be able to proceed with the Black Sabbath album and tour," Ward said on his website. "However, I am unable to continue unless a 'signable' contract is drawn up; a contract that reflects some dignity and respect toward me as an original member of the band."

He said he worked with the other Black Sabbath members "in good faith" last year and agreed to appear with them at the November press conference in Los Angeles.

"Several days ago, after nearly a year of trying to negotiate, another 'unsignable' contract was handed to me." He's said he was looking forward to playing on the new album and tour, and was already packed and ready to leave the United States for Britain to join the group. Ward described feeling "lousy and lonely," but added that he stood to lose his "rights, dignity and respectability as a rock musician" if he signed the contract offered to him.

"If I'm replaced, I have to face you, the beloved Sabbath fans. I hope you will not hold me responsible for the failure of an original Black Sabbath lineup as promoted." He's also said his motives were not "greed-driven" and that he was not trying to holding out for more money "like some kind of blackmail deal."

PATTERSON HOOD to Fight Downtown Athens, GA Walmart

MUSIC NEWS - Some of the greatest songs were written to give voice to anxiety, despair and unwanted change. “After it’s Gone”, a new single just released by Patterson Hood and the Downtown 13, was inspired by the threat of a Walmart in the heart of downtown Athens, GA. The city that nurtured the band’s career. Hood, singer, writer and guitarist for the band Drive-By Truckers assembled The Downtown 13, a musical collective made up of some of Athens, GA's finest musicians to celebrate Athens, GA's beauty and vibrant musical heritage and to protest a developer's proposed building of a massive mixed use development in downtown Athens, anchored by a 94,000 sq. foot Walmart.

The small and eclectic university town of Athens is a hotbed for national musical acts and many of these local luminaries, including R.E.M.’s Mike Mills and Widespread Panic’s John Bell and Todd Nance. They all came together on the new track to express their opposition to a proposed development by Atlanta-based Selig Enterprises. The back wall of the anchor tenant, Walmart, would be within stone’s throw of Hood’s home and it would tower over the greenway trail along the Oconee River, and is the very embodiment of inappropriate development.

“This Atlanta developer wants to clog our cultural heart and build a bunker the size of three city blocks next to the vibrant downtown scene,” says Hood. “They hit The Easy Button: a big box store in our downtown district is clearly misguided and a somewhat ridiculous notion. Downtown Athens is a dynamic network of local businesses--Athens already has a meaningful brand and we are extremely protective of it.”

Taking a very vocal turn away from the proposed lifestyle-shopping center currently under contract, Hood is the most recent performer to take the role of front man as an Athens community that has long spoken to national and international audiences. “We have a vibrant downtown with plans for the future that involve planned development along the river and hopefully a high speed rail to Atlanta,” says Hood. “We don’t need a big box retailer, the very definition of the past, to once again bring us back through that dark episode of closed down storefronts and empty parking lots. Protect Downtown Athens-- that's what this is all about."

JETHRO TULL's Ian Anderson Announces THICK AS A BRICK Part II

MUSIC NEWS - Following the recent announcement of a 19-date tour to commemorate the 40th anniversary of 'Thick As A Brick,' on April 3, Ian Anderson will release a sequel to the original album!

In 1972,Ian Anderson wrote and recorded the Jethro Tull progressive rock classic album 'Thick As A Brick.' The lyrics were credited at the time to the fictitious child character, Gerald Bostock, whose parents supposedly lied about his age. The record instantly became a number one Billboard Chart album and enjoyed considerable success in many countries of the world.

So, forty years later, what would Gerald Bostock, now aged fifty, be doing today? What might have happened to him? The anniversary “part two” album will examine the possible different paths that the precocious young schoolboy, Gerald Bostock, might have taken later in life through alter-ego characters with song-section identities illustrating the hugely varied potential twists and turns of fate and opportunity. Not just for Gerald but to echo how our own lives develop, change direction and ultimately conclude through chance encounters and interventions, however tiny and insignificant they might seem at the time.

Ian Anderson recently said of the album, “As we baby-boomers look back on our own lives, we must often feel an occasional 'what-if' moment. Might we, like Gerald, have become instead preacher, soldier, down-and-out, shopkeeper or finance tycoon?” Adding, “And those of more tender years - the social media and internet generation - may choose to ponder well the myriad of chance possibilities ahead of them at every turn.....”

To coincide with this release, for the first time since 1972, Anderson and fellow musicians John O'Hara (keyboards), David Goodier (bass), Florian Opahle (guitar) and Scott Hammond (drums) - as well as some guest performers - will take to the road to perform the album in its entirety and, there will be a second part to the show where Anderson and the band will also perform the sequel.

MUSIC NEWS - Feist has unveiled her new video for “The Bad In Each Other” off her critically-acclaimed album, Metals (out via Cherrytree/Interscope). The video was directed by Martin De Thurah (James Blake, Glasvegas), and it captures glimpses of something human. What we get is a peek inside something real between people; could be loss, longing or love, things which are about being a human being.

“The Bad In Each Other” video opens up more aspects than it concludes; possibly something one can't grasp, but it points at it or touches it and leaves the viewer with different kinds of emotions. Like a song or a poem, different people will connect to different things - and those might change from time to time when watching it.

“When I approached Martin to make a little film for this song, he told me he thought it sounded like a battle cry, and that he wondered about finding the little, tiny wars people experience in between the big dramas,” Feist tells SPIN.com. "I interpreted that to mean all the quiet internal battles that guide our actions; all the hopes and struggles we suppress or let carry us away. I feel like he's made a sort of symphony of In Betweens and stretched split seconds into feel-able, graspable echoes."

Feist will be returning to the USA this spring to perform a series of concert of dates across the country in support of Metals. She'll kick off with a two weekend stint at Coachella, then Feist and her band will make stops everywhere from Marfa, TX to the famed Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

MUSIC NEWS - The fourth season of the innovative music series Live from the Artists Den premieres nationally on public television beginning February 3, 2012 (check local listings). The New York Emmy-nominated show connects music fans with a remarkable line-up of icons and emerging stars performing in unique and historic venues. The new season features Adele, The Fray, Death Cab for Cutie, Kid Rock, Iron and Wine, and Amos Lee with special guests Calexico.

"There's something for every music fan in our new season," says Artists Den Creator and Executive Producer Mark Lieberman. "We kick off with a rare, intimate look at Adele, the biggest star in music this year, and we made history by filming Kid Rock inside Elvis Presley's Graceland in Memphis, the world's most famous rock and roll landmark. JACK WHITE Reveals Blunderbuss News

MUSIC NEWS - White Stripes frontman Jack White has announced the April 24 elease of his first solo album, Blunderbuss, out on Third Man/ Columbia Records. White also premiered the first tune from the album called “Love Interruption,” (listen below) via his JackWhiteIII.com.

Blunderbuss will be White’s first solo release since the breakup of The White Stripes, which was revealed nearly one year ago, February 2, 2011 to be exact. Since 2005, White has been busy with misc production work and collaborations; The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather and worked with Alicia Keys on the theme song to the 22nd James Bond film, A Quantum of Solace, and contributed vocals to Danger Mouse’s 2011 Rome project.

White said of his forthcoming release, “it’s an album I couldn’t have released until now. I've put off making records under my own name for a long time but these songs feel like they could only be presented under my name. These songs were written from scratch, had nothing to do with anyone or anything else but my own expression, my own colors on my own canvas."

MUSIC NEWS- Garbage has announced that their fifth studio album, Not Your Kind Of People, will be released in the USA on May 15, 2012, on the band's own label STUNVOLUME. As V Magazine recently put it: "The poster girl for '90s alternative rock is ready to reclaim her reign - and the radio - with a new record from her iconic band, Garbage."

"Working with Garbage again was very instinctual," said Duke Erikson. "Like getting on a bicycle...with three other people." He adds "We haven't felt this good about a Garbage record since the last one!"
