This is a sample plant distribution map for the Sheffield district, showing the recording area for the New Sorby Flora Project.

See www.flickr.com/groups/sorbyflora/

This map was produced by Derek Whiteley with DMAP software developed by Alan Morton, using records from the Sorby Plant Database held by Alan Woodcock. A dot indicates a record in a 1km square. Grey indicates urban areas and wiggly lines are rivers. Straight lines are the national gridlines with their numbers. Calluna vulgaris is Heather or Ling.

<atom10:link xmlns:atom10="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" rel="enclosure" href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7163/6729981135_d2342d4fcb_b.jpg" length="0" type="image/jpeg" /><dc:date.Taken>2012-01-20T09:25:52-08:00</dc:date.Taken>

Turkeytail [Flickr]

Roger B. posted a photo:

Yesterday I paid another visit to the Plantlife nature reserve at Deep Dale in Derbyshire.

The lower parts of the dale were covered in a violet-blue haze of devil's-bit scabious. Butterflies, bees and other nectar-feeding insects seem to find the flowers irresistible. I counted 15 red admirals on one patch!

Other species of butterfly visiting the flowers included peacock, meadow brown, small copper and dark green fritillary.
