Different, So Different...

The summer has barely started and I cannot believe how different it is from last year. Last summer I was literally drinking lemonade in the shade. I took some much needed time off from a job that was toxic and tiring. I think I was at the range at least three times a weeks last summer. Things are certainly different this summer. Travel for work is so crazy, but I love my job so it's all good. Instead of filling my spare time with range trips I steal time to go to the gym or to catch up on some cheesy reality TV. Thank goodness for Tivo! How will I ever get back into a trigger time groove?

Can you tell I am way. way, way behind? Just now getting around to uploading all of the NRA Convention pics. Sorry for the delay, but, oh my goodness, don't we clean up nice?

The highlight of the NRA Convention was the banquet honoring Lt. Col. Oliver North and John Stossel. John is a huge Ollie fan, so he was tickled to go. I got to buy a new dress and get dolled up, so I was happy.

To be honest, I never paid that much attention to Lt. Col. North. I slightly remember the Iran-Contra hearings as a kid, but I was more into Family Ties and The Facts of Life at the time. (You were my first crush, Alex P. Keaton!). As an adult, I'd watch him on Hannity and Colmes and agree with him, but no real feelings one way or the other.

I am here to tell you... I heart Lt. Col North. Holy cow! His speech was inspiring and spot-on.

For those of you that were there, I am sure you had a great time. If you missed it, sorry, it's not on YouTube. Already looked. If anyone finds it, let me know I would love to share it.

Phoenix Rocks!

John and I are home from the NRA Convention. We both absolutely love Phoenix. The weather is great, it's a conservative state, people are friendly, restaurants are good, shopping is phenomenal, and did I mention the weather? Although I have plenty convention thingys and super fun gunny stuff to blog about over the next few days. I have to share the funniest story of the weekend.

Setting: The party pool at the Mondrian in Scottsdale. (We chose the Mondrian because it is a cool place... I am totally lying... we got a killer deal at Expedia). The pool became party central as Saturday afternoon went on. I didn't really notice (or care) because I was soaking up the sun and enjoying my book. John finally joins me at 4:00 PM.

Tracy: Hi. Glad you made it.

John: (nodding and grinning from ear to ear)

Tracy: Crazy, huh? Great people watching.

John: Palm. Springs. Spring. Break. Nineteen. Eighty. Seven.

Tracy: Baby, all of these people were born in 1987.

I am off to London for a few days. It's going to be another blog-lite week. The trip was a last minute development at work. I actually found out I was going while I was lounging by the pool last week. I had to scramble when I got home because I require special in-flight entertainment... cheesy 80's movies, Tetris, and a massive stack of magazines. I managed to pull it all together and even had time to learn some British lingo. I've been using my new vocabulary words in sentences so I remember them better. For example:

"What do you mean the bobbies don't carry guns? What if there is a big argy-bargy? What the bloody hell do they do? Kick them in the arse?"

I hate to admit it, but I kinda crabbed about schlepping to the Tea Party on Wednesday. I was on vacation. No brain usage allowed for a whole week. In hindsight, I am so happy I went. We had a great time with the locals (hey, West Palm Beach... you guys rock!), bought a couple t-shirts, and laughed at all of the clever, creative signs. Here's my favorite:

After a week of sunning and sleeping it is now time to get back to reality. Back to work tomorrow and on the road again Wednesday.

Our week of sunning, swimming, spa-ing, and sleeping is officially suspended. We found a local Tea Party to attend this afternoon. Our regularly scheduled lazy activities will resume first thing tomorrow morning.

Blog Lite Week

This is officially "Blog Lite Week." We are on our way to a beach to be lazy for a week. I've packed books, swim suits, sunblock, and flip flops. What more does a girl need? John is in charge of packing the concealed carry necessities.
