Celebrity Lindsay Lohan files a silly lawsuit.

This has nothing to do with wedding rings, but it just goes to show how crazy the world can be at times – especially the Hollywood world.

Lindsay Lohan, a reasonably popular actress that has at least some talent, is suing E*Trade over their Super Bowl ad. Really? C’mon!!!

Apparently Ms. Lohan feels that the “milkaholic” baby named Lindsay is a characterization of her, and even her lawyer states that she is now known as a one named celebrity. So let’s see – there’s Cher, Madonna, Fergie, possibly Pink and now Lindsay? Ummmmmm – no! Sorry, but this is just a frivolous lawsuit by someone that is most likely just looking to create buzz and publicity. And besides, being called a “milkaholic” might be a good thing, and this might interfere with her reputation as being a past abuser of booze and cocaine.

By the way, Lindsay, I work for a jewelry company. Should you need something for the red carpet, then please let me know!

The Wedding-Ring-Blog has nothing to do with Ring8.com (content stolen)!

It has come to my attention that the domain Ring8.com has been using the content that I put on this blog for their gains. But what are those gains exactly? I really don’t know. I just know that whatever I contributed to The-Wedding-Ring-Blog is now suffering duplicate content penalties, and the Google Adsense account that is associated with this domain has been suspended.

So to the owner(s) of Ring8.com – thank you for being unethical and affecting my standing with Google and now possibly on the Internet as well.

And readers – please offer your input to this situation as well.

UPDATE: The material from my blog is definitely being stolen. Even when I type "The-Wedding-Ring-Blog" in the post (like above), their programming changes it. Cute.

Upon doing ANOTHER search on Google Blogs, I found this interesting article - Which Is The Best Wedding Band: Platinum Or White Gold. Overall, there are some pretty fair and accurate facts. Until I read this little line about rhodium platinum:

To get the brilliant white finish that white gold and platinum are famous for, they need to be plated with rhodium. Over time, this rhodium plating will wear away leaving the base metal behind. As the rhodium plating wears away the brilliant white finish that platinum and white gold are famous for will be replaced by a dull light grey appearance…Platinum is more expensive than white gold, however they may both look quite cheap over time because of that rhodium plating.

Excuse me? Platinum is a naturally white metal and does not ever need to be rhodium plated. Rhodium plating help white gold with its appearance because white gold is not naturally white. But platinum? If someone tries to sell you rhodium plating for a platinum ring, I would politely decline. Platinum ages very well and will never look “quite cheap.”

When searching blog posts for wedding bands and wedding rings on IceRocket.com and Google, I came across an interesting query – “Argentium wedding rings pros and cons.” And curiously, the number one result showing up in Google comes from BlueBuddahBoutique.com. Here is how they explain Argentium Sterling Silver’s pros and cons:

Argentium Silver
Pros: Unlike regular sterling, this silver will not tarnish. All the prestige of silver, with none of the hassle of polishing. Argentinium is an alloy of silver that includes the element germanium. If you solder your pieces, note that Argentium does not develop firescale.

Cons: Expensive! This is a new material (on the market as of 2005) and so not much information is available, especially regarding long-term use.

Ouch! That’s the problem that turns up sometimes with search. This post from 2005 is irrelevant. Well – the pros are relevant. But not the cons, and it is not the author’s fault. There is actually not a lot of information out there about Argentium Sterling Silver.

As of March 9, 2010, Argentium Sterling Silver is very affordable. It is not expensive at all when compared to gold or palladium. Argentium Sterling Silver is more expensive than tungsten (have you seen these wedding band prices on Amazon.com?), but it is a great option for an affordable precious metal.

So what’s the REAL tungsten wedding band story?

Thanks to this article that was featured on NationalJeweler.com, I have been researching the tungsten wedding band phenomenon and rise in popularity. Supposedly, one out of every five wedding bands being sold in America are tungsten wedding bands. The benefits of tungsten wedding bands are simple – it has a very hard surface that doesn’t scratch easily, and it is affordable. But there are downsides as well – tungsten wedding bands can not be sized and can actually shatter when hit with a hammer. So you just have to decide what’s best for you when considering a tungsten wedding band. Sounds simple, right?

But now here’s the confusing part. When I go to the popular tungsten wedding band website TungstenWorld.com, I see a lot of rings that are “on sale” for about $179.00 (or in that price range). But when I go over to Amazon.com, I see what could be considered the same if not very similar tungsten wedding bands for much less expensive. So what’s the difference? Or is there a difference?

It’s the same thing with tungsten bracelets for men. Look at bracelet number one – black tungsten carbide link bracelet that is 16mm wide. The price is $179.00. This tungsten bracelet on Amazon.com is priced in the range of $84.99 – $109.99 depending on the length that you order. The images look very, very similar. So what’s the difference?

Pricing with precious metal jewelry made in the same metals can vary due to the products weight. Wedding bands can be made very light, or with a nice weight and feel. The lighter ones have less metal, and the more substantial bands use more. Can this assumption be made with tungsten products? And if it is the same products, then why buy at a well known website or even in a jewelry store when Amazon.com has practically the same products for much less?

I have read comments and been told by jewelry store owners that they are buying less precious metal jewelry because tungsten is so hot. Yet isn’t the idea behind a jewelry purchase to buy something that has intrinsic and sentimental value? I think tungsten wedding bands look cool and feel great. But it just does not sit well with me that consumers that purchased through certain websites or maybe in a jewelry store have bought a product that probably has a wholesale cost of somewhere between $7-$12 (not including rings made with diamonds or gemstones). In my opinion, that is actually a sad story. Yes – in America everyone has the right to make as much money as possible. However, I have the feeling that once this tungsten wedding band “bubble” bursts, there will be a lot of consumers that will feel cheated because they paid way too much for a product that wasn’t worth that much to begin with. These consumers may also have bad feelings towards certain websites and in many cases towards the jewelry store that may have sold them their tungsten wedding band. Could there have been a “Great Tungsten Wedding Band Swindle?” I really don’t know, but I do urge consumers to look into this more. As American consumers, we deserve to fully understand the value and benefits of what we are buying.
