This is because when you enter keywords into these backfill fields, your job site will display jobs with those keywords anywhere in your listing. So setting your backfill for “software engineer” without quotes will return results that include the terms “software” and “engineer”, and also might include jobs such as an electrical engineer or for a job that requires familiarity with software sales.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Setting your backfill by O*NET code is a way to make sure the jobs on your search site are the types of jobs that you are looking to include. The &lt;a href="http://online.onetcenter.org/"&gt;O*NET program&lt;/a&gt; is the primary source of occupational information in the US. Within the program, there is a system of job classification called the O*NET-SOC taxonomy (SOC standing for &lt;a href="http://www.bls.gov/soc/"&gt;Standard Occupational Classification&lt;/a&gt; - a system created by the Bureau of Labor Statistics) which categorizes all occupations into 23 major groups, 97 minor groups, and 461 broad occupations.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;For example, if you want to set your backfill to &lt;a href="http://www.simplyhired.com/a/jobs/list/q-%22dental+assistant%22"&gt;dental assistant jobs&lt;/a&gt;, you can type “onet:(31-9091)” into the “with all the words” search field, with 31-9091 being the O*NET code for dental assistants. Your results will return all jobs that are classified as dental assistants.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

You may also shorten the code and add an asterisk to the end (example: “&lt;a href="http://www.simplyhired.com/a/jobs/list/q-onet%3A%2821*%29"&gt;onet:(21*)&lt;/a&gt;” or “&lt;a href="http://www.simplyhired.com/a/jobs/list/q-onet%3A%2835-2*%29"&gt;onet:(35-2*)&lt;/a&gt;”) to set your backfill as a broader search within that job category. &#xD;
&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;O*NET codes are considered singular search terms in the Simply Hired system, so you can use them in combination with one another using the OR function. So to set your backfill to &lt;a href="http://www.simplyhired.com/a/jobs/list/q-onet%3A%2817-2051%29"&gt;civil engineer jobs&lt;/a&gt; (onet:17-2051) and &lt;a href="http://www.simplyhired.com/a/jobs/list/q-onet%3A%2817-2071%29"&gt;electrical engineer jobs&lt;/a&gt; (onet:17-2071), enter the following into the backfill search field titled: onet:17-2051 OR onet:17-2071&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

&lt;p&gt;Once backfill is selected, you’ll then find a number of fields where you can enter search terms to set preferences. Job backfill can be as customized or as general as you like. Keep in mind that your backfill is based on a combination of ALL fields to make one query, so if you find that your backfill is empty or is only showing a handful of jobs, you will need to broaden your search. Also, you must apply either a location or at least one keyword, or both &#xD;
for backfill to appear.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;&#xD;

&lt;h1&gt;Where Do I Use Widgets?&lt;/h1&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Most of our Job-a-matic sites are linked to other third-party sites: a blog, personal website, company website, service website, etc.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;There are great places to put a widget! A great example is &lt;a href="http://www.web-strategist.com/blog/" target="_blank" title="The Web Strategist"&gt;The Web Strategist&lt;/a&gt;. This is a popular blog that has our job widget in the&lt;strong&gt; right hand rail. &lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;p&gt;Using CSS, the web designers have fully customized the widget to fall in line with the look of the website. If you don't know CSS, don't worry. Many of our partner websites use our widgets without any custom web design at all.&lt;/p&gt;&#xD;

I started this several years ago and was one of the first bloggers to cover social and big business. I kept at it, and it paid off. It's now an extension of my job as an Industry Analyst at Altimeter Group, where I'm one of the owners. I use it to glean research insights in the comments, build connections, and share my insights from my research.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;

I didn't want to put ads on my site, as I really want to add value to the readers, not hit them with ads. I want to be a trusted source of content and actually since I write for corporate web teams, they are often thinking about growing their careers. It's a good fit for my content, as I've discussed their career paths at great extent in my research and my frequent "on the move" posts where I discuss who's getting jobs in the industry.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;

An integrated perspective is key: I tweet out when new jobs are here to my near 100,000 followers on Twitter, and as I do regular "on the move" series shouting out who got jobs, I point to the job board, aligning the content. As you might imagine, my promotion of the job board attracts recruiters who know I have a large--but targeted--audience of web, business, and marketing professionals.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
