With our late-June date, I wanted the florals to feel vibrant and joyful—really popping against the breathtaking coastal scenery and the white Spanish-style villas that define Bacara. The color story felt like a celebration of summer, the sea, and Santa Barbara’s natural beauty.

The design was thoughtfully curated by our incredible wedding planner, Katie Seefeldt of Wedding Kate. The vision was a colorful summer wedding with Mediterranean influences—elegant yet relaxed, refined yet warm. Every design choice was made to complement the property’s natural beauty, allowing the setting to lead while layering in texture, color, and thoughtful details.

We got engaged in April of 2024 in Venice, Italy—a place that already felt like a dream. We spent the day on a private boat tour of the canals, visiting Murano to tour a glass factory, and enjoying lunch in Burano at Trattoria da Romano. After lunch, our guide suggested a walk through the city’s only vineyard. It wasn’t part of the tour, so I assumed it was simply a thoughtful gesture—especially meaningful since I’m a wine importer who works closely with Italian wines. Little did I know that my husband had told her he wanted to find a beautiful place to propose. As we walked through the vineyard, he gently pulled me off the path. Suddenly, he was down on one knee, holding the most beautiful ring, and quietly asked, “Will you marry me?” I was completely caught off guard in the best possible way. It was intimate, emotional, and unforgettable. We spent the rest of the day celebrating—wandering Venice, soaking in the magic of the city, and beginning the next chapter of our lives together.

It felt like a true reflection of my personal style. For the welcome party, I wore a deep “V” white silk dress from Nicholas that felt chic, playful, and perfect for starting the weekend.[/field]

My bridesmaids selected their own dresses within a curated color palette. I loved giving them the freedom to choose silhouettes and shades that felt most like themselves. The mix-and-match look added texture and movement, pairing beautifully with the vibrant florals.

Food and beverages were catered by The Ritz-Carlton Bacara and were an unforgettable part of the experience. Cocktail hour featured an elevated selection of passed canapés, including Mini Chicken Barbacoa Tacos, Petite Crab Cakes, Yukon Potato Latkes with Caviar and Dill Crème Fraîche, Pan Con Tomate, and Ricotta Toast with Iberico Ham and Poached Pears. We chose a seated, plated dinner in the outdoor courtyard off the Rotunda. The meal began with a Market Greens Salad featuring shaved apples, crisp fennel, candied pecans, tangerine, Laura Chenel goat cheese, and green goddess dressing. Entrée selections included Seared Free-Range Chicken Breast with Porcini Mushroom Risotto and Lemon-Caper Sauce, Braised Beef Short Rib with Parsnip Mousseline and Broccolini, and Wild Mushroom Ravioli with Tuscan kale, toasted pine nuts, and parsley vichyssoise. For dessert, we added a Bomboloni (Italian donut) station, followed by late-night bites such as Braised Beef Sliders with gochujang aioli, crisp pommes frites with black pepper truffle aioli, and mini cheese quesadillas with tomatillo avocado salsa. In addition to the Bacara’s Elite Bar Package, our signature cocktails were Aperol Spritzes and Espresso Martinis. Wines served tableside included EOS Sauvignon Blanc, EOS Cabernet Sauvignon, and J.P. Chenet Blanc de Blanc.

[field title=”Florals & Decor”]Our florist, The Hidden Garden of Los Angeles, completely exceeded our expectations. Their lush, colorful designs transformed each space and brought our vision to life in a way that felt organic, joyful, and perfectly suited to the setting

Our three-tier cake was crafted by The Ritz-Carlton Bacara. The top and bottom tiers were lemon chiffon with fresh raspberry filling, and the middle tier was chocolate chiffon with chocolate cream filling. It was finished with simple white buttercream and delicately adorned with fresh florals.

[field title=”Readings, Ceremony Music, Reception Songs”]Our ceremony included a reading of An Uncommon Love by Torah Cox, beautifully read by the groom’s sister. A string quartet performed the music for the ceremony. The processional was La Vie en Rose. I walked down the aisle to Make You Feel My Love, and the recessional was If I Ain’t Got You.
At the reception, we celebrated with Lovestoned. Our first dance was At Last by Etta James. The father-daughter dance was My Wish by Rascal Flatts, and the mother-son dance was Stand By Me by Ben E. King.[/field]

What made the day truly special was its feeling—intimate, joyful, and full of love. Everything felt intentional yet effortless, and the day exceeded every dream we had. Nolan and I purchased our first home months before we got engaged, and we were in the process of a huge renovation. I secretly thought to myself, I hoped he would propose there once it was finished, but didn’t want to tell him or anyone else that because I wanted whatever he did to be his own idea. Little did I know that Nolan had been planning a proposal at our new home all along, with the intention of proposing at our “grand reveal” when the home was finished. When the renovation took longer than expected (shocker), he had to pivot, but still wanted to propose at our home. With the help of our contractors, friends, and family, our construction zone of a home was transformed into the most special proposal sight. The wooden beams serving as our ceilings were draped with string lights, the plywood floors covered in rose petals, and tons of votive candles and roses led me to our master bedroom addition, where he got down on one knee. Our family later came out of the guest room to celebrate with champagne, and afterward,rdd I was surprised again with a huge engagement party at the brand new Bowie House Hotel with all of our friends and family. It was one of the most special and magical nights of my life!

A French Countryside-Inspired Wedding with a Fairytale Finish

From the beginning, the vision for the wedding was effortless yet elevated, romantic yet sophisticated, and organic yet refined. I loved the soft summer color palette of light rose pinks, happy greens, off-whites, and beige tones. Our wedding website read, “A Summer Garden Party Wedding Inspired by The French Countryside” because I wanted guests to feel like they stepped into an old-world estate garden. I was inspired by elegant designs that combined a pretty pastel color palette with exquisite ornate textures. Our rentals came together to create the perfect mix of elevated elegance and relaxed garden party. A lounge area with Louis XIV-style settees and custom down throw pillows that matched the tablecloths, a round bar with French umbrellas, wrought-iron welcome area furniture, a flower cart welcome table, bistro seating, scalloped edge plates, mother-of-pearl flatware, floral textured tablecloths, beige linen napkins, a sailcloth tent, and a checkered dance floor under market lights made for an incredible celebration from day to night. The ambiance of the day felt romantic and intentional with special touches; a welcome champagne etagere where guests could pick up a flute on their way to the ceremony, a string quartet playing live for the ceremony and cocktail hour, a horse and carriage that drove us through the tree-lined drive and dropped us off for our grand entrance into dinner, and a sailcloth tent draped with florals and string lights where dinner was magical.

Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of a fairytale wedding that was full of romance, joy, and effortless beauty. My family traveled to France many times in my childhood, and I fell in love with the French countryside. I wanted our guests to feel transported to Provence, and Cavaignac Estate allowed us to make it happen without a flight. With a welcome area that resembled a French courtyard, a garden-party ceremony in a tree-lined drive, a cocktail hour amongst vineyards, a surprise horse-and-carriage grand entrance, and a plated dinner under twinkle lights in a sailcloth tent, the day truly felt like a fairytale. Unique Elements & DIY Elements: Our stationery suite was designed and handmade by my mom and me. With her graphic design skills and art degree, she helped to bring my vision of old-world romance to life with the finest details: a custom logo and floral design, handmade cotton paper, letterpressed invitations, a gorgeous custom font, specialty die-cut debossed trim, custom gold foil venue illustration, coordinating envelope liners, and hand-addressed antique gold calligraphy assembled with handmade pink silk ribbons, oval floral wax seals, and curated vintage stamps. We also made all of the wedding signage: a linen welcome sign with our venue line art, gold-framed bar signs that matched our custom logo, deckled-edge menus, ornately framed table numbers, and a French partition seating chart with our gold-framed logo and flowing linen signs. Everything was lovingly designed and handcrafted to create a romantic and cohesive feeling for our guests. Favorite Moment: My favorite moment of the day was riding in a horse-and-carriage while our guests waved to us. Seeing all of our loved ones as we passed by is a memory that Zach and I will always cherish. We went down the tree-lined drive for photos as our guests were seated for dinner. We were then escorted around our reception tent, where our guests waved and cheered once more. It was the experience of a lifetime. It was also an homage to my parents’ wedding, where they exited in a horse-and-carriage. We displayed their carriage photo on our welcome flower cart. Leading up to the wedding, Zach and I had written each other letters on the 23rd of each month. While getting ready on the morning of the wedding, we wrote our last letters and read them to each other during our first look. It was one of the most sentimental and memorable moments of the day.

On a combined family trip to Kauai, Hawaii, we planned to take family pictures on the beach during sunset. During our portraits together, Zach got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Zach’s family adorned me with a beautiful lei, and everyone was so happy – hugging and crying. It was the perfect start to our forever.

Movement, texture, and delicate details were high on my list of “must-haves,” and I knew I wanted to wear Clivia by Alena Leena the minute I saw it online. I fell in love with the sweetheart neckline, delicate floral details, and unique tulle fabric. Adding a ruched ruffle trim along the bodice created the French-inspired dress of my dreams. I chose a cathedral veil that swooped just above my waist, and it perfectly complemented the shape of my silhouette while giving me the traditional bridal romance I was hoping for.

We transformed my mom’s classic 1990s wedding gown into the perfect second look dress for the end-of-night dancing. The puffed sleeves and basque-waist silhouette became a sophisticated, strapless gown with a modern high-low skirt. It was so special to be able to repurpose my mom’s wedding dress for this nostalgic trend.

I encouraged them to look for dresses with movement, texture, and florals to enhance the garden party feel. They all came together to create a gorgeous array of garden party fashions. We asked the groomsmen to rent tuxedos with pinstripe French cuff tuxedo shirts to coordinate with Zach’s custom European tux from Indochino. To finish off his look, Zach wore a silk bowtie, custom gold cufflinks, and a classic white-faced watch that I gifted him that morning.

The idea was “Euro trip that made it out of the group chat,t” but elevated by beauty and elegance to celebrate our marriage. Vibe: We wanted it to be effortlessly chic, jaw-droppingly beautiful, an epic garden-style party in a castle located in the heart of Tuscany. We wanted to embrace the Italian culture, the opportunity to be present in the most beautiful place in the world with our closest loved ones. Having the time of our lives every step of the way. A seamless adventure that will be etched in our memories forever. Design: CHIARA ELENA From the very beginning, our wedding planners had an extraordinary ability to translate our vision into something even more beautiful than we could have imagined. They didn’t simply plan our wedding — they designed an experience that felt immersive, intentional, and deeply connected to its surroundings. Set against the rolling Tuscan countryside and within the walls of a private castle, every design decision felt thoughtful and refined. A palette of soft whites and layered greens mirrored the olive groves and historic stone, creating a look that was timeless, elevated, and effortlessly Italian. The florals were lush yet organic, styled to feel as though they were growing naturally from the space, enhancing the setting without ever overpowering it. The ceremony design was both intimate and cinematic, with a sense of symmetry and perspective that guided our guests through the olive trees toward a moment that felt incredibly emotional. As the celebration transitioned into the reception, the courtyard was transformed into a stunning open-air dining experience. Cascading greenery, glowing chandeliers, and soft candlelight created an atmosphere that was romantic, warm, and undeniably elegant. What made the design truly exceptional was how seamlessly everything came together. Our planners were absolutely incredible — thoughtful, creative, and meticulous in every detail. They created a setting that was jaw-dropping yet welcoming, elevated yet joyful. Because of them, our guests were fully immersed in the experience, and we were able to be completely present, knowing every detail had been executed flawlessly. It was a celebration that felt not only beautiful but unforgettable.

Frank knew I would want a private and intimate proposal, and he did just that. There was a song I showed him months before that I told him reminded me of how I felt about him. My family was in Chicago,o and we were planning to meet with them later in the afternoon. Frank went to take our dog out before we left, and a few moments later,r the song I showed him started playing over the speakers. Our dog came running through the door with a white bow and a white rose around his collar, with Frank right behind him with a massive bouquet of roses. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! Easiest yes ever! Shortly after, we met my family at their hotel bar, and they had champagne waiting to celebrate. To end the night,t we went to our regular dive bar to find that Frank’s family and my best friend had been waiting for us. The table was decorated with balloons and cookies. They even played the same song he proposed to. Fast forward two years later and that song was our first dance.

The wedding gown was Sandra by Varca. A milk white, Japanese taffeta, sleeveless dress with a stunning, dramatic train. Varca is a Chicago-based designer, so it felt like taking a piece of home with us to our wedding in Italy. It was purchased at Belle Atelier in Chicago. I styled it with jimmy choo heels, the diamond bracelet my dad gifted to my mom as a push present when I was born, a diamond cocktail ring that was my grandmothers, gold floral earrings inspired by the garden my mom always had growing up, and a purse made by our family friend out of my mom’s wedding dress (the inside had a picture of me, my mom, and my late Nonna).

The bridesmaids all got to choose their own dresses with two rules: they had to be long and ivory. The rest was up to them! They all chose how to style it, the fabric, and their shoes. I wanted to make sure you could see each girl’s personality, and they were in something that made them feel beautiful!

The groom and groomsman (and the fathers) all wore State and Liberty tuxes. Most of the groomsmen were hockey players, so having an athletic fit/fabric provided comfort without sacrificing style. Frank, the groom, differentiated himself through a pleated shirt and cummerbund.

Food and drinks were a very important aspect of our wedding. Frank, who comes from an Italian family, is very passionate about food. Consuming and cooking! We chose to go with elevated classics. Cocktail Hour: Finger Food: Beef tartare with salt, pepper, lemon, olive oil, and parmesan cheese Bruschetta with olive oil, tomatoes and oregano Wafer cone with burrata cheese and cherry tomatoes Crusty bread with cannellini beans cream and scorzone truffle Fried baby ravioli with stuffed cheese in Mediterranean sauce Tartlet with baked ham in port wine Skewer with sausage, zucchini, tomatoes Baby bun with mortadella and chopped pistachios Cheese Buvette Ricotta cheese with tomatoes Buffalo mozzarella Burrata cheese with Andria Smoke burrata cheese Assortment of Pecorino cheese with different seasoning Il Norcino Cinta Senese salami Finocchiona Wild Boar sausage with truffle Pratomagno Ham (LIVE CUT) Greve in Chianti Salami Wedding Dinner: We customized our first dish which was Paccheri of Val D’Orcia with raw tomato, basil, pesto and burrata. The second dish was a Pici Cacio e Pepe. Pici is a local pasta from Siena, which was important for us to incorporate. The main course was a beef filet with Chianti Classico au jus. The side dishes were sage and rosemary potatoes alla ghiotta and a salad with cherries and caprine cheese. We had vegans and vegetarians at our wedding as well. Roland accommodated them with their own chosen dishes, and the feedback was amazing. We did a midnight snack, which was a bunch of different pizzas!! Drinks: Cocktail hour was Aperol Spritz, Hugo Spritz, and passion bitter. Dinner was served with a white wine (Ottomuri – Tenuta I Collazzi) and a red wine (Chianti – Casalvento)

Flowers and décor were at the heart of our wedding design. We wanted everything to feel natural, timeless, and effortlessly elegant—never overstyled, but rich in texture and intention. We chose classic, seasonal blooms—primarily hydrangeas and delicate white flowers—arranged in generous, organic compositions. The goal was abundance without heaviness, creating a sense of movement and softness that felt as though the flowers belonged to the space rather than being placed within it. Long tables were dressed with crisp white linens, natural wood chairs, and low floral arrangements that ran the length of each table, encouraging conversation and intimacy. Candlelight was layered throughout the design, adding warmth and depth as the evening unfolded. Above the tables, crystal chandeliers suspended among greenery brought a touch of old-world romance, casting a soft, glowing light that transformed the garden into something truly magical. Our wedding planners were instrumental in bringing this vision to life, interpreting our ideas with incredible sensitivity and creativity, and enriching the design with thoughtful details that elevated the overall atmosphere. Every floral and decorative choice felt intentional, cohesive, and deeply reflective of our vision. If the design was the body of our wedding, the photography was its soul. We didn’t just want someone to document the day; we wanted an artist who could capture the quiet, unspoken emotions and the grand architectural scale of our Tuscan dream. Our photographer was a true visionary. From the breathtaking aerial shots of our ceremony among the olive groves to the intimate, candlelit glow of our first dance, every frame feels like a piece of cinema. They had an incredible ability to play with the natural light, making the white hydrangeas glow against the ancient stone of the castle

[field title=”Wedding Cake”]We did a show cooking for our wedding cake. The chef came out and did the first layer of the Millefeuille with Chantilly cream, raspberries, and shaved dark chocolate. Then we did the second layer and topped it with powdered sugar! It was so fun and a unique/fun way to do a cake cutting.

Of all the moments we planned, the ceremony was the one that felt the most sacred. We wanted our ‘I do’s’ to be deeply personal, so having my father perform the ceremony was a decision that meant the world to us. There wasn’t a dry eye in the olive grove as he spoke; his words turned a grand setting into an intimate family memory that Frank and I will carry forever. It was exactly the kind of heartfelt, moving tribute we had hoped for. To heighten the emotion, we chose a soundtrack that felt like ‘us’—a blend of contemporary romance and timeless classics. As the string quartet began to play, the air was filled with the melodies of Coldplay’s most romantic pop songs, echoing through the trees. For the most pivotal moments, we chose the soul-stirring notes of ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’. Hearing those familiar chords played by a classical quartet amidst the rustling leaves of the Tuscan landscape was pure magic. My wedding planners were incredible at coordinating the timing, ensuring the music swelled at just the right moments to perfectly complement my father’s ceremony. They took my vision for a day that was both grand and deeply emotional and added that professional touch that allowed us to simply be present in the moment.

Our Forest Chandelier: “This was a dream! Having a classic crystal chandelier suspended directly from the ancient tree branches above our head table truly transformed our outdoor dinner into something out of a fairytale.”

Boho-Chic Sun Umbrellas: “Those white and gold Balinese-inspired umbrellas not only kept our guests comfortable but also added such a beautiful, exotic texture and touch of elegance to the setting.”

The vision for the day began with the venue. From the moment they got engaged, Drew and Madelyn knew they wanted to be married near Beaufort, South Carolina, a place deeply rooted in both of their histories. With a lifelong connection to Fripp Island and years of family vacations spent in nearby Hilton Head, the Lowcountry has always held a special place in their hearts. Once they discovered Agapae Oaks, it immediately stood out as the perfect backdrop for their celebration. Every design choice was made with the setting in mind, allowing the natural beauty of the Lowcountry to shine. A palette of soft greens and blues, grounded by natural wood tones, echoed the surrounding marshland and oak trees, while a blue-and-white checkered dance floor added a playful yet timeless focal point. Floral elements were designed to feel effortlessly organic, arrangements that looked as though they were gathered straight from a meadow, perfectly imperfect and full of movement. Their wedding planner, Kaitlyn, played a key role in shaping the overall design concept, expertly translating the couple’s vision into a cohesive and elevated aesthetic. The overall vibe was deeply personal and true to the couple. From Drew’s brother-in-law officiating the ceremony to the carefully curated band setlist that kept guests on the dance floor all night, every detail was designed to feel authentic, relaxed, and unmistakably them.

From the bride, Madelyn: Drew really wanted to surprise me and catch me off guard with the proposal. If you know anything about me, you know I am a really hard person to surprise, and I want to know every detail about every plan, so this wasn’t an easy task for him. He did a great job throwing me off the scent by starting to plan a fake trip to Mexico later in the summer,r so I was pretty convinced he’d propose there, but he had another plan. It was Easter weekend, and both of our parents would be in Pinehurst, NC (where I grew up), so we decided to go home that weekend. Drew had some friends in Pinehurst whom I hadn’t met yet, so he set up a “dinner” with them and me. Since I didn’t know these friends, there was no risk of my texting them and changing the plans, and he knew I would probably get dressed up since it was my first time meeting them. Before the “dinner”, he suggested we go to The Village Wine Shop,p which is one of my favorite places in Pinehurst for a glass of wine before dinner. Then he suggested we take a walk through the village. Of course, I did not want to take a walk, but reluctantly agreed to go. I wanted to cut the walk short, so I started walking back to my parents’ house, and this is where Drew realized he was running out of runway. He just stopped me on a private sidewalk and told me to slow down, and then got on one knee. I was so surprised in the best way. After he proposed, we went to dinner with both of our parents to celebrate at one of my favorite restaurants,s where I actually worked as a waitress for a summer in college. After dinner, we Facetimed all of our friends and told them the news!

The culinary experience began at cocktail hour with an elevated trio of small bites: heirloom tomato bruschetta on toasted artisan bread, crisp-seared smoked Gouda grit cakes crowned with tender shrimp, and sesame-crusted ahi tuna on wonton crisps finished with a silky wasabi cream. Dinner unfolded through a series of chef-driven stations that encouraged guests to graze and explore. The Pasta Station featured a bright summer pasta primavera tossed with grilled seasonal vegetables, alongside a classic Caesar salad with house-made herbed croutons and warm rosemary focaccia. The Mediterranean Station served lemon and herb chicken skewers, tomato and feta pearl couscous, and soft naan paired with cool tzatziki. For a heartier selection, the All-American carving station offered herb-rubbed beef tenderloin with mushroom demi-glace, buttermilk mashed potatoes, and cumin–honey glazed carrots. To keep the energy high into the late hours, the couple treated guests to a fun, food truck-style snack of griddled flour tortillas layered with melted cheese and served with salsa and sour cream, a satisfying bite after hours of dancing.

Linens from Stradley Davidson added texture and refinement, while Amazing Rentals provided the majority of the event’s rental pieces, helping to create a cohesive and thoughtfully layered design.

Surcie in Raleigh designed the wedding paper goods, adding an artistic touch that carried the aesthetic through the invitations and day-of details. For an extra personal layer, the couple incorporated custom matchboxes and cups designed by one of the bridesmaids, Casey Coulter, a meaningful contribution that made the celebration feel uniquely theirs.[/field]

For the cake, the couple opted for a petite and elegant 7-inch cutting cake by Carrie Castano of Custom Confections. The design featured white-on-white detailing with pale blue accents and delicate piping that subtly echoed the wedding’s palette. Inside, the cake was almond with raspberry compote filling and Swiss buttercream; classic, refined, and just the right size for the ceremonial slice. In addition to the cake, Custom Confections created an abundant dessert display that delighted guests throughout the evening. The assortment included Oreo truffles, rich fudge brownies, and a lineup of mini cupcakes in flavors such as almond with raspberry buttercream, chocolate with chocolate ganache, vanilla with salted caramel buttercream, red velvet with cream cheese icing, and carrot cake with walnuts. A selection of cookies: chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal, Nutella, and snickerdoodle. A variety that added a nostalgic touch and ensured there truly was something for everyone.

Custom tennis balls with his name served as a playful tribute, and the maid of honor even opened her speech with a heartfelt letter “from him” to the newlyweds. It was a sweet, personal touch that had guests smiling and tearing up in equal measure.[/field]

The ceremony was officiated by Drew’s brother-in-law, who spent time speaking with friends and family to ensure it reflected the couple perfectly. Drew had dreamed of exchanging personal vows, something the bride was nervous about at first, but they became one of her favorite moments of the day. Both quoted NFL quarterback Jalen Hurts, and the room erupted when Drew said, “Keep the main thing the main thing.”
