He was talking about all the get rich quick stuff he’d bought over the years and how he thought that maybe it was like an addiction. No doubt, it is an addiction. </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">When I co-developed a beginner’s course for Internet marketers I made the statement that most gurus can’t teach.  What I didn’t say is most gurus aren’t gurus and many of them were one hit wonders, or they are lying. I’d love to see some of their tax returns.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">Unfortunately, some of these people have the depth of a bedpan.  But you’ll be able to tell how and I’ll show you how in a few moments. </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">There are, of course, many successful entrepreneurs who happily pass along (sell or even give away) the “secrets” of their successes. I know that there were some products that my client purchased that are excellent and could have helped him had he used them. I own a couple of them, one developed by <a href="http://budurl.com/gptz">Mark Joyner</a>, and they certainly helped me. He just never got around to using them.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">We live in a busy time. We are loaded down with information, data, technology, learning curves, and  opportunities.  For those who want to actively participate, the result can become acute overwhelm. </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">It’s been estimated that some 90% of e-training information products are never completed. They just sit there in cyber files, unopened, and unused, and paid for.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">I was reminded of the story years ago of the motivational speaker who sold his 6-cassette tape albums both at seminars and via magazine advertising. After he’d sold the first run of about 500 albums it was discovered that quite by accident, tapes 4-6 were blank. All of them!</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">What was amazing was that they’d had only two complaints! So that means that either no one was listening beyond the first three or they just never got around to complaining about the missing information. I suspect the former.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">The science of persuasion in advertising and marketing has grown to massive proportions. What was once a body of information gained through years of training is now available to anyone with an Internet account and a credit card. </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">Like any tool, persuasion can be used for positive or negative purposes.  The devious and downright dishonest purveyors are using this material successfully to the tune of creating vast fortunes for themselves or influencing an unaware public to vote or believe a certain way.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">In marketing, the honest, real teachers (gurus) are using this science to train others to succeed.  They are using tried and true methods that have worked for themselves and others. But how can you tell the difference?</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">Unfortunately, we are consuming, voting, and reacting to the science of persuasion without much thought. This is truly a highly developed skill of hypnosis that we’ve become unwitting slaves to masters who are stealing us blind or influencing us in ways we might consciously never accept. </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">There is something you can do. Here are 3 ways to block hypnotic influences that may be harmful to you, especially when buying information products:</span><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">1. Don’t make a snap decision to buy anything from a vendor, ad, or influencer you don’t already know and trust. <br />2. Don’t trust – verify. Before you make the purchase or accept the promoted belief, ask yourself if you are willing to begin learning this material immediately. If so, how many hours or minutes will you spend on day 1, day 2, etc.? Don’t spend your money or your time until you make a personal commitment to begin consuming the material right away. <br />Yes, a crazy man with a gun is more dangerous. However, your chances of coming up against such a situation is very slim. You only have control over your URLs if they are registered to you, through your account at the ICANN-accredited domain registrar such as GoDaddy.com, namecheap.com, etc.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px;">Do you control your URLs? You know, the names of your websites.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px;">A lot of people don't realize it, but they don't control their own domains. I was reminded of this no less than three times this week and it's information you should know.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px;">A new client of mine has "owned" his two domain names for several years. His webmaster was charging him monthly fees, for what he didn't know. The webmaster had also purchased his domain names in his own account. He may or may not be able to get them transferred.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px;">A hosting company was promoting some great discounts and a "F-R-E-E domain name. Well, when I called them and asked if the domain name would be in their account or mine, of course it was theirs. Of course I could use my own current URLs, but if they bought it I'd be stuck with them.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px;">Bottom line; buy your own domain names from accredited resellers.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px;">A lot of marketers are extolling the virtues of namecheap.com, which I haven't used yet, but may start. The other one I use is Godaddy.com. The bad thing about living in Las Vegas is that everyone you ever knew . . .  ah, but this is a positive story.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">The other day an old friend who was visiting asked me about the Internet and my online experiences. He’s a long time marketing pro with a very niche business, now retired. </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">He’d never done much online, so he asked me how it all worked. Well, sorry, but that would take more than a Starbucks visit to explain.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">So I told him a story that got him laughing, which I’ll share with you too. Then we did a little experiment, right from Starbucks, which I think you’ll get a kick out of as well, especially when you can duplicate this yourself one day. </span><br /><br /><strong><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">First, the story: </span></strong><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">It was a rainy Saturday and my plans for the weekend had been canceled and I was bored. You know how boring Las Vegas can be, right? </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">I looked at my “To do” list and realized that I’d been procrastinating. So, you might think I’d go to work on that list. Not so fast. I had another idea, which ultimately proved once again, the power of the Internet. But more on that in a minute.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">I decided to start an online group for people who’ve been accused of being procrastinators but wanted to prove that they are not procrastinators.  Silly, right? yup. Eventually profitable? I’ll show you. </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">I am no online techie. I learned to create simple web pages and blog pages, which are now easier than ever and with no technical skill. So, I decided to play around with my idea. </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">I wrote a special report page for “Procrastinators Anonymous.” This was designed as a humorous piece and thankfully, according to most reports, it proved to be just that, from chuckles to LOL. </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">I wrote a silly piece that since a true procrastinator would never join such an organization, the provisional memberships were always terminated within 24 hours by the Chairman Of The Bored. </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">This termination letter (suitable for framing next to the certificate) was proof that anyone actually joining couldn’t be a procrastinator, thus proving to all who’ve ever accused them of same that they were wrong, etc.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">Well, this is all just goofy right? Right. But, and here’s the lesson and maybe even for you an AHA. I sold this thing. Sure, for only $7.00, but people were not only paying for it, they were buying memberships to send to friends, etc, too. Now I didn’t make any huge money from this, but it was fun.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">Then later I realized that I could give these memberships away and ask those who got theirs to let their friends know about it too. This “silly idea” built my online mailing list considerably, added new customers for other products and services who, in turn, told others, and so forth. </span><br /><br /><strong><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">Your Profit And Power</span></strong><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">That’s the power of digital products and that’s why I encourage anyone with any kind of business to learn and understand the basics of creating your own online promotions to products or market other people’s products as affiliates and earn a commission. </span><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">A digital product may be nothing more than an email with a commercial purpose, a zero cost special report or a multi-part paid training program. </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">When I got the rights back to my book, “How To Take No For An Answer And Still Succeed,” I turned it into a digital product and sold more copies at a higher price than the publisher ever did with the printed copy.</span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">But people feel stuck sometimes, and that’s understandable, so did I early on. I said I would take him out for a nice dinner but that I would get the money from a quick online promotion. I took three popular products and knocked down the price by $100 for each one of them. So, two of the products were now $47 each and one was $97. A great deal and savings for anyone interested, right? </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 18px; font-family: Verdana;">I sent an email to my list promoting this special for one day only. You may have seen this. While there’s time involved in creating anything, you can promote and market online quickly. Since I have no production costs on my digital products, I can literally give them away, though I don’t recommend that. He knew it wasn’t working but he didn’t quite know what to do next.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">So, on an open mic night, that’s where you perform for free at a club for exposure and training, he invited his friends. He told us that the purpose was for us to give him feedback and ideas.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">It was obvious, with a few exceptional laughs or giggles, that he’d bombed. A majority of the people in the club were from his group, and most of us were giving polite laughs, except in the case of one well-meaning buddy, laughing like he was high on drugs and helium.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">At the time I was a TV producer and talk show host. But I had once been a stand-up comic. A failed comic, but nevertheless, one who’d been there done that. And boy, did I know that feeling!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">I’d  discovered that I had two problems in my short comedic career. One, I wasn’t funny, and two, I didn’t know I wasn’t funny.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">But on those rare occasions when I’d done well, it was because I had a mentor. Today, we might call him a coach. But he was an old school working pro, who broke down my act and sometimes, with just a slight twist of a word or timing, showed me how to get laughs where none had existed before.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">So, as my friend later joined several of us at the bar, his friend’s responses were “nice going, good job.” They were all polite with pats on the back and best wishes. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">I could see the disappointment as he walked down the line of his friends and well wishers. he really wanted help. I was at the end of the line. He knew me pretty well and looked me straight in they eye.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">“Now, I’m really afraid,” he said, laughing nervously. He whispered in my ear. “Your choice, B.S. or the truth.” </span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">He and I adjourned to a coffee shop alone, where we sat for over two hours. I showed him what I thought worked and how he could build on it. He got my opinion on what didn’t and suggestions on how to fix it.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">His next on-stage performance was much better received. He was funnier than I’d ever been and funnier than he’d ever been.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">If you’re in business, you need help. We all do. Even when things are running smoothly we are frequently creating unseen challenges for the future. The analogy is like not changing your car’s oil for a long period of time. It runs fine, but inside, slowly, the engine is deteriorating.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Arial;">When I went into business and later consulting and coaching, I’d had, and continued to have, coaches and mentors. Some were specialized and others were generalists. <div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p><br /><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Verdana;">The other day I was working on one of the lessons for my digital course, <a href="http://budurl.com/fu3k">“Digital Product Creation.”</a> A favorite quote of mine is from the book “</span><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Verdana;"><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Verdana;">Power.” </span>For the life of me I couldn’t think of the author’s name.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Verdana;">So, I typed in the quote into Google and lots of sites popped up. I selected one that said “Michael Korda.” Question answered. Then I looked at the source. It was me! From my book, “How To Take No For An Answer And Still Succeed.” I’d forgotten that I’d quoted him there and I had to laugh. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Verdana;">It did strike a cord, especially given the subject matter I was working on. We live in an amazing age of information. Yet, we can hardly get enough of it.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Verdana;">This is especially good if you’re an information marketer! You discover what’s needed out there, what can help a lot of people and then you supply it. I can Google a lot of material for free, but my credit cards show me that at the end of the year that I’ve paid for a lot of digital information online, and so have our customers.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Verdana;">We can find very specific and succinct information now. The kind of information that can pay off for us and fast. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Verdana;">I was looking for a particular research subject for a client recently. It took me to a research site that had, according to the title and brief description, exactly what my client would need. The price, $1,200 for 1937 words. He’s doing a multi-million dollar project. Is that too high a price? Not likely. Not if it helps make his project more successful. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Verdana;">The price is relative, isn’t it? My book I mentioned was priced at $19.95 in the printed version by the publisher. I got the rights back and turned it into an ebook. I added bonuses and wrote sales copy. That book sells online for $27! No shipping or handling to the customer and no printing costs by my company. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Verdana;">It has lots of testimonials and I can price it as needed and even give it away for special promotions if I like. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Verdana;">And get this, we sold more digital books in two months than my publisher sold in two years! Not only that, I learned how to sell a digital book by buying a digital book about how to create and market digital books!</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Verdana;">Of course it’s all about techniques, marketing and strategies.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Verdana;">There were two memorable moments in my early information marketing career. The first was when I awoke one morning to check my email and found my very first overnight sale! The money had been placed in my account while I was sleeping! I love that feeling even now.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Verdana;">The next one was another morning email check. This time, I noticed two orders from the middle of the night. The first one was a customer in Ramat Gan Israel. The second, a few minutes later, a buyer in Riyadh Saudi Arabia! Two very different cultures, both buying my book on how to deal with rejection,disappointment, and failure. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Verdana;">One of the keys is how you promote yourself and your products in advance. The ideal outcome of a successful promotion for someone who’s not yet well known is this: Promote in a way that they think it’s their fault if they don’t know who you are! Again, it’s a technique within a strategy. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Verdana;">Before the Internet, to that even close to successfully, you’d have to buy a lot of advertising, pay for press releases, etc. </span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Verdana;">When we hear that it’s the information age, that’s one thing. But when we learn how to transform our knowledge, interest, and expertise into paid information, that’s the information age at it’s finest! </span></p><p><span style="font-size: 14px; font-family: Verdana;">People from all walks of life, levels of education, and interest levels are, in some cases, making staggering profits marketing digital products.
