There was an article in Wall Street Journal yesterday about customizing your furniture. This is a "new trend" according to the article. Silly me!! I thought we needleworkers had been customizing our living spaces for years! Throw pillows, seat covers, footstools, pictures, clothing, accessories, and more, are all fodder for customizing when you do needlework. No cookie cutter look for us! The entire line of fun and ornery little cat designs from Kats by Kelly and adapted for cross stitch by Calico Crossroads are being retired and taken off the market at the end of this month (September 2010). Did you know that charts and patterns used in counted cross stitch may also be used for counted needlepoint? It is easiest for needlepointers to use patterns that are charted in full stitches only, not those with quarter or half stitches. Patterns with backstitching may be used if you wish to leave out the backstitching on your needlepoint or put it in after your piece is stitched using a lighter weight thread. Stitching counted needlepoint gives needlepointers a wider variety of designs from which to choose. Keep on Stitching! Beth
