Gibson – Canada Type

The Gibson font family hits the right spot for many people and on many levels.

It is a humanist sans serif typeface designed by eminent Canadian type designer Rod McDonald, and produced by Patrick Griffin and Kevin King of Canada Type, to honour John Gibson FGDC (1928-2011), Rod’s long-time friend and one of the original founders of the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC).

Bodoni Decorated

This decorative alphabet was produced by Nigel Bents, Paul Oakley and Jonny Holmes at Chelsea College of Art & Design.
Based on a downloaded Bodoni Poster font, it was designed digitally by students using Illustrator, laser cut out of 3mm plywood by Cut Laser Cut in Vauxhall and mounted on type-high block by Stef Willis in the college workshop.
Limited edition posters available for sale.

FF Ernestine was born from the search for a versatile monoline text typeface that would feel warm yet serious, feminine yet rigid, charming yet sturdy. Its rather large x-height and wide, open shapes enable it to work well down to small sizes; ligatures, stylistic and contextual alternates, a selection of arrows, and two sizes of small caps enrich its typographic palette. Nina Stössinger first drew the Roman as a study project at the postgraduate Type Design programme in Zurich, and the Italic in dialogue with Hrant Papazian’s Armenian design. Both the Roman and the Italic (which doubles as a harmonious companion to the Armenian component) are available in four individually drawn weights. The four corresponding Armenian weights, nicknamed “Vem” and – in the Pro version – identically included in the Roman and Italic fonts, share the specific personable character of the family while optimizing the proportions for the Armenian script. Check this new cool typeface Vanitas designed by Typojungle’s friend Mike Jarboe, Reserves foundry. Vanitas is an elegant high contrast contemporary sans. It is rooted in the style of a classic didone, excluding the typical serifs and ball terminals as well as being designed with a cleaner, more reductionist appearance. Strict attention was given to the cohesiveness and balance between letterforms as well as the careful refinement of all curves.

Calcine is all about playfulness and fun. Originally designed (and perfect for) posters and flyers, the typeface—the name comes from a bastardization of the process of roasting coffee beans—thrives off of its proportions and superstructure. Reminiscent of abstracted brush and marker letterings, Calcine has visible roots in written forms, settling in somewhere between scrips and san serifs. Check Calcine typeface at Gestalten Fonts.

Bolo Magazine

BOLO is a graphic magazine, designed, published and distributed by the Milan based graphic designer Marco Nicotra. 2 colors, 100 pages of graphics, photography, illustration and typography, all mixed together. Different techniques, combined by the main theme of the first issue: “Stars are indispensable” .
BOLO #1 includes the contributions from 45 artists , coming from every corner of the world. Among them: Anthony Zinonos, Julia Pott, {ths}, Michael C. Hsiung.
BOLO is also a music compilation (BOLO Tracks 1), a screenprinted t-shirt, a daily updated blog and, above all, an indipendent publishing label, BOLO Paper.
BOLO is distributed in the most important cities in Europe and US, and available on the website.
In italian BOLO means “regurgitated food cud”, a disgusting thing that nobody wants to see. This is a good representation of combining different techniques. In this case we obtain a new and effective result.

Leterme Dowling are pleased to announce the launch of their first book, ‘Robert Samuel Hanson: 140 Colour Images’. It’s a monograph focussing on the stunning output of Eight:48′s cover illustrator Robert Hanson.

Robert is a Berlin-based freelance illustrator who has worked for clients such as The New York Times, Monocle, Google, Wired and The Royal Mail among others.

This book features 140 colour illustrations, organised into groups according to their subject matter. These illustrations are accompanied by an interview with the illustrator about his work, life and accomplishments.
