US man convicted in NYC of stalking Tyra Banks

A Georgia man who told police he and Tyra Banks "had a thing together" was convicted Thursday of stalking the supermodel-turned-TV host.

Brady Green, 39, of Georgia, was convicted by Manhattan Criminal Court Judge James Burke, who heard the case without a jury, of stalking, harassment, criminal trespass and attempted aggravated harassment.

Burke handed down his verdict the day after Banks testified that she feared for her safety. The judge said he found that Green had been "hounding" Banks.

However, Burke said he would not send Green to jail. He told defense lawyer Jeffrey Berman to help his client get psychiatric counseling and a job in "a location where he can thrive."

That "likely will not be the city of New York," the judge said.

Berman said he was disappointed with the verdict and planned an appeal but was glad the judge did not send Green to jail. Green had faced up to 90 days in jail at sentencing on June 18.

Banks testified Wednesday that she feared for her safety, and for that of her staff and family.

Authorities said Green, 39, repeatedly called Banks' studio, showed up there, and sent her flowers and letters. They said he also threatened to slit the throat of a staffer who refused to tell him where to find Banks' TV studio.

Green was arrested March 18, 2008, at a McDonald's restaurant near Banks' studio in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. He told officers he and Banks "had a thing together," police said.

Banks said she was about to leave the studio that day when her staff warned her about Green. She said they had previously shown her Green's photograph, told her he had threatened one of her employees and was "somebody I should watch out for."

The former Sports Illustrated cover girl said she told officers at the scene that she was scared.

"I didn't know what to do. How do I live my life when I leave this building? I had never experienced anything like this before," she said.

Calm and smiling frequently as she testified, Banks said security "has changed significantly" around her and her workplaces because of Green.

She said that her company has hired more security staff and that her studio audiences are vetted more thoroughly.

Banks said she is now followed everywhere by security guards, even when she runs and exercises outdoors. Even though she is a public person, "I don't live that kind of sheltered, protected life," she said. "I like to walk around."

Green testified that Banks' shows on racism and homelessness had moved him and he wanted to contact her. He said his attempts to get tickets for her show had been misunderstood.

He also said he never threatened Banks, never intended to scare her and never tried to date her.

Assistant District Attorney Sean McMahon got Green to acknowledge that he rode a bus for four days from Los Angeles to New York, where he had no friends, relatives and no job, and that the first he thing he did was go to the building that houses Banks' studio.

Banks is executive producer and host of two popular TV shows, "America's Next Top Model" and "The Tyra Banks Show."

Tyra Officially Backs Barack Obama

With election day just three days away, Tyra Banks is throwing her support behind Democratic Sen. Barack Obama.

"Throughout this historic presidential campaign, I have been inspired by Senator Barack Obama and his message of change," the talk-show host said in a statement. "I believe he will uplift all Americans during these critical times. I will be voting for Obama because I feel America is not only ready for this change, we are in need of it."

In September, Tyra was featured in Harper's Bazaar posing as Michelle Obama with a Barack look-a-like in the Oval Office.

Tyra Banks is coming to Amsterdam this summer with the last five candidates of America's Next Top Model.

The models of America’s Next Top Model will have several go-sees and photo shoots in Amsterdam.

Because the prerecordings in Amsterdam of ANTM are for season eleven of the program, we will have to wait for some time before the show is broadcasted in the Netherlands. Right now the 8th season of ANTM has just been broadcasted.

Sky: Naomi Campbell Arrested at Heathrow

Supermodel Naomi Campbell was arrested at Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5 Thursday for allegedly spitting at a police officer, Sky News television reported.

A 37-year-old woman was arrested at the terminal on suspicion of assaulting police, a London Metropolitan Police spokesman said, speaking anonymously in line with force policy. He refused to disclose the woman's identity or say whether the incident took place inside the terminal or aboard a plane.

BAA PLC, the company that runs Heathrow, did not immediately return calls seeking comment Thursday.

British Airways PLC, the terminal's sole occupant, referred questions to BAA and police.

Campbell, 37, has a history of getting physical with assistants and employees.

In 2000, the British fashion model pleaded guilty in Toronto to an assault charge for beating an assistant while making a film in Canada in 1998. Under an agreement with prosecutors, Campbell expressed remorse and was released without punishment or a criminal record.

In January 2007, Campbell pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault for throwing her mobile phone at her maid in a dispute over a missing pair of jeans, for which she was ordered to do community service and attend a two-day anger-management program.

A representative for Campbell could not immediately be reached.

I read yesterday that Tyra barely interacted with the models at all this cycle. Did you sense that she worked with you less than the girls on other cycles?

A little bit just because I had seen in other cycles that she had sit-down time with the other girls one on one. But she's a celebrity: She's got a lot on her plate and she did do the runway teach so she did as much as she could with the time that she had. I learned a lot from her, especially how she really goes for it. She's not afraid of what other people think of her. That's something I definitely need to learn myself because I kind of hold myself back because I'm afraid of what other people will think. I just really need to get out there and let go.

But you still were asked to scream every time she came in the room?

They didn't tell us, "Go scream," but they really wanted excitement out of us. We were excited to see her as well, and there was so much energy and excitement and tension, so it was sort of a release.

It’s not just the models who don’t get along on America’s Next Top Model!

According to a show insider, the hostess with the mostest, Tyra Banks, and photographer Jay Manuel are this-close to having a catfight on the catwalk.

“Tyra Banks is not getting along with Jay Manuel,” an insider tells OK! “She thinks he has become a diva and is ungrateful to her for making him a star. The way she sees it, it’s thanks to her that he now has a makeup line, a show on Style Network and hosts Canada’s version of Top Model.”

So how bad has it gotten? So bad that the 34-year-old supermodel reportedly phones in all her takes for the show now. “Tyra barely interacts with the contestants and only wants to show up on judging day," the source adds.

Even worse — she doesn’t want to return for the next season.

"She wants another supermodel to replace her for cycle 13 so she can focus on her other projects," the source says. "She has a lot on her plate. Something’s got to give."

Tyra Banks "stalker" gets free pass

Busted, quickly released

Talk-show host Tyra Banks is living in fear of a hulking stalker who's been terrorizing her for months and was set free by a judge last week.

Cops finally busted the burly ex-con drifter Tuesday for allegedly stalking Banks from coast to coast, but he was released without bail - an act that has added to her anxiety.

Brady Green, 37, has hounded Banks with multiple letters and phone calls since early January, cops and prosecutors said.

He then started sending her flowers and showing up in person at her Los Angeles TV studio, they said.

The Dublin, Ga., native then took a bus to New York with the idea of visiting the studio where "The Tyra Banks Show" is taped. He arrived in the lobby at 4:23 p.m. on Tuesday, asking to speak to the former supermodel, the authorities said.

Green was carrying a large duffel bag stuffed with magazine write-ups about Banks and notes to himself about his various attempts to reach her, they said.

Cops were called to the scene, where Banks said she feared for her safety. Green was cleared from the premises.

But at 7:22 p.m., Green was back - sitting across the street in a window seat at a McDonald's, drinking coffee and flipping through one of his magazines, said witness Jesus Nuñez.

Nuñez described the 6-foot-2 Green as "huge, strong with a lot of muscles."

Green told police he was homeless, although he appeared clean and dressed in neat, casual clothing, they said. Cops arrested him in the restaurant and charged him with stalking, harassment and criminal trespass.

The next morning, Green appeared in Manhattan Criminal Court and pleaded not guilty to the charges. No bail was requested, despite Green not having provided a New York address. Judge Anthony Ferrara released him on his own recognizance - but issued an order of protection for Banks.

The Manhattan District Attorney's Office did not know that Green had pleaded guilty to felony pot-selling charges on Oct. 16, 2006, when he was sentenced to two years of probation and fined $1,620.

DA spokeswoman Barbara Thompson said the office gets defendants' New York state criminal records in one day off fingerprints sent to Albany. Rap sheets from elsewhere take at least two days.

But a call by The Post to the county prosecutor in his Georgia hometown turned up a second arrest - for obstruction on Nov. 23, 2006. That charge was dismissed.

Said NYPD spokesman Michael Collins, "It's up to other agencies to await the prints to be run and to be certain of a person's ID before letting them go."

Staff at the Chelsea studio are worriedly anticipating Green's return. "There's no security at this building," said a producer at 225 W. 26th St., where photos of Green were still being handed out on Friday with a warning to stay away from him. "It's very scary."
