Spring Cleaning Contest with Home Advisor

Remember when I told you about using Home Advisor to help me complete my spring cleaning to-do list? Well, I just had the vents/ducts cleaned in my house and I am so happy with the service provided! Seriously, you guys, using Home Advisor for home repair, maintenance, and cleaning needs is a huge time saver. They “look” for the professionals for you and make sure they are perfect for the job you need done!

Once I choose the pro I wanted to clean my ducts and vents, he was able to come out THE NEXT DAY! I was shown exactly what Eric (that’s his name) was going to do when he arrived. Eric showed me the exact cost before he did anything. The price was exactly what he quoted me on the phone and less than the average cost of vent and duct cleaning I found on the Home Advisor Cost Guide. I signed the form and off he went. He was respectful of my family and our property and showed me everything that came out of the vents. Man, after 7 years of not having the vents cleaned EVER, I was shocked at the crap that came out of them.

Spring Cleaning with Home Advisor

Spring is here and with it comes the feeling to de-junk and clean up! This past week we have fertilized the grass, pulled some weeds, cleaned the back deck and made many runs to the city dump. I was beginning to feel a bit overloaded with all this spring cleaning. Going through my email one day, I saw this Top 10 Spring Maintenance Task from HomeAdvisor.com. You may remember us talking about them earlier; we are HUGE fans of the simplification they bring to home repair, upkeep, and remodeling.

Looking at the Top 10 list, I began to prioritize my spring cleaning workload. Then I was offered the chance to pick one of the items from the list and have it completed at my leisure. My daughter was just diagnosed with a kind of seasonal asthma so I jumped at the chance to have my ducts/vents cleared and disinfected in hopes of relieving her symptoms…and they haven’t been cleaned since we built our house 8 years ago. {Don’t judge!}

Here’s how it worked:

I clicked on the item from the Top 10 List that I wanted done and I saw this awesome cost breakdown for Duct and Vent cleaning. This cost overview eliminates “the sticker shock” that can sometimes come from having house maintenance done. Each item on the Top 10 List is a link to the cost page.

Once I looked through the cost page, I decided this was one of the most important things I needed to get done the spring so I clicked on the GET STARTED button in the bottom right corner. I answered 5 questions about my project like how many vents I have, where the furnace is located, etc.

Once I submitted that information, I was given the names of three companies who could do my vent cleaning. Along with their names and numbers was a review of each company with a rating of up to 5 stars. As I was reading the reviews from previous customers, I got a phone call from one of the companies saying they just received my info from Home Advisor and they gave me an exact bid for the work I was asking. Then the 2nd company called with their bid, about 10 minutes later. By the end of the night I had heard from all three companies and was ready to make a decision. {I was blown away at how quickly these companies responded to my request for service.}

The process was simple and quick! I am excited to have my ducts and vents cleaned and check one more thing off my spring cleaning list. Click the GET STARTED button below for some help with your own spring cleaning list.

I’ve had it for about one year and people are always asking me where I got it.

The answer? Velvet Pepper.

I feel like I can give a great review after using it for a year and let me tell you…I LOVE IT. The quality is TOP NOTCH. I love the bottom of the bag with the metal dots {haha, I don’t know what they are called} that protect my purse. I’m crazy about all of the pockets, the designs, colors, all of it!

The Creepy Bathroom Remodel

I’m collaborating with Sherwin-Williams and BlogHer to bring you my next home improvement project!
Let me introduce you to what my kids call “The Creepy Bathroom”…

…this bathroom is located in our basement and you will notice a hole in the ceiling due to a leaky pipe. Movie star light bulbs above the outdated cabinet – yes, half of the bulbs are out – we rarely use this bathroom!
Here’s another angle of the bathroom, and what I plan to do for the remodel…

…oh ya, that’s right! When we moved in there was a red light, and when you turn it on, the whole room turns a creepy red color!
Sherwin-Williams to the rescue!
I used their ColorSnap® app and found the perfect color to brighten up my bathroom! Here is how simple it is to use:

1. Download the Android or iPhone app by Sherwin-Williams called ColorSnap.
2. You can explore colors if you don’t have a photo on hand that you want to match. If you have a photo, click Use Saved Photos, click and you’ll find many colors to explore in your theme!
3. Click on the color and it will show you the color name, the color number, and if it is exterior or interior.
4. Need to find the nearest Sherwin-Williams? Type in your zip code, and it’s right there.

Does it get easier than this?!

The wall color I decided to go with is called Rainwashed. It’s a light blue/green color, and it is gorgeous!

When I’m done with this bathroom, hopefully it will look completely different and my kids will think of it as “The Happy Bathroom.”
