Remove the cap and the blade of the cutter and insert the fabric strap the same way you did for an actual bias tape maker.

“Planting the Seeds” Teacher Gift

Supplies

Tin Buckets (bought set of three at IKEA for $1.99)

Twine

2 packages of seeds

garden gloves

paper bag

silk flower

Chalkboard label

1. Grab some twine and tie around the top. Attach flower and leaves with glue gun.

2. The chalkboard label was cut using the Silhouette and chalkboard vinyl. You could also use chalkboard paint or chalkboard contact paper (which must have been invented by a brilliant crafter, right?).

3. Next, cut up a paper bag and print the saying “Teachers plant the seeds of knowledge that will grow forever!” onto it in any font you’d like. Yes, you can insert it right into your printer…crinkle and iron to give it that distressed look!

4. Staple seed packets on the back of paper and place everything into the bucket!

Teachers can use this bucket all year long and label it however they’d like with the chalk label!

DIY Mini Stacked Pots

I’ve been wondering what to give the moms for Mother’s Day and I’m loving all of the decorated clay pots everywhere! I decided to go with the polka dot look because I fell in love with these larger ones at Positively Splendid!

A thought came to me the other day…create mini stacked planters as gifts!

They’re less expensive, you can use them as a centerpiece or display on an end table, and they’re easy to carry.

Don’t get me wrong…I plan on making a large set for my front porch asap!

DIY Mini Stacked Clay Pots

I headed down to my local Michaels Craft Store and purchased the clay planters, spray paint, and paint sponges.

I primed them and painted them…

…used my handy sponge circle brush and white acrylic paint to put on the dots!

Sprayed with a satin protective coat, planted some flowers, and I had…

…the perfect Mother’s Day gift!

Craft Tip: Bed Pillow into TWO Throw Pillows

I am Desirée from The 36th Avenue and I am so excited to be back visiting one of my top favorite blogs!

Thank you Kari for having me!

I am sharing today the tutorial of how to turn a regular pillow into two throw pillows.

This is a perfect little project to recycle old pillows or to save good money specially on down throw pillows,

since you can pay anywhere between $25 and $50 for just one insert.

MATERIALS

Basically all you'll need is a king size pillow, scissors, pins and a sewing machine.

TIP: You can purchase super affordable pillows at your local HomeGoods Stores or TJMax.

You can buy two king size pillows and make four down pillows for about $20... That is a good deal!

TUTORIAL

First using scissors cut your pillow right in half.

Nothing fancy!

Push the filling of your pillow in with your hands as much as you can.

Keep the filling inside of the case and out of the way pining the fabric together.

You want to have at least a 2.5" piece of empty fabric to work with for the next step.

After the pinning it should look like this...

Close to the edge of the fabric, seal the pillow together.

More space you leave to work with... easier the sewing will be.

Remove your pins and distribute the filling evenly again with your hands.

Make it puffy!

You are done!

I do this all the time!

It saves me a lot of money and I can get high quality pillow inserts for a fraction of the cost.

After I was done with the inserts I could not resist to make some cute pillow cases for them.

DIY Ballet Bar

I can’t wait to show you what my amazingly talented sister-in-law, Laci created (we call her the Ana White of the family)!

My little neice is one of the cutest ballerina dancers ever and has been doing it for 3 years and LOVES it.

Laci said Katie’s only complaint was..."I can't practice at home mom, I need a mirror and a bar.” Now she has no excuses!

DIY Ballerina Bar

First, she prepped the wall and used four mirror clips, two on bottom that rested on the baseboards and two spring loaded clips above that just happened to conveniently be placed in studs.

Next, she hung a 4’x5’ mirror…

…then attached the beadboard…

…and painted the wall an adorable pink color (Porter Paints Rosebud).

For the ballet bar she used a railing rod and rod holders…

…and voila!

She has a beautiful ballet bar… perfect addition to Katie’s room!
