On the 22^nd of Feb uCONVERT 2.3.0 featured on the XDA Developers Portal in a review by Noonski, in which he had this to say:

From angles to weights, it does it all with a great interface to boot, uConvert even downloads the latest currency rates for you if you want it to.

Best Windows Mobile Apps also recently reviewed uCONVERT, saying:

uCONVERT [is] easily one of the best Windows Mobile Unit and Currency converters.

The app gives the user the option to mirror image the UI which will be a lot easier to use if you are left handed. Major props to the developer for this simple but a very handy option. One other thing I liked about the app is that I could easily swap units from the menu option, or you can just slide your finger across from left to right and the units are swapped.

What’s Coming in uCONVERT 2.4.0

The next version of uCONVERT, 2.4.0 is only a few weeks away (we anticipate a release early April), so here’s what’s going to be included in the update:

Alphabetical sorting of units to make finding them easier
Choose your top 3 categories rather than just one
The last time exchange rates were updated is displayed in the Settings screen
Alternate right-handed layout with the same layout as the left handed one but the list of categories on the right
mmH₂0 added to the Pressure category
Cubic millimeters added to the Volume category
The list of units will be left (rather than right) aligned if the uCONVERT interface is right-handed
Performance improvements
Better separation of SI and Binary information units
Polish, Swedish, Turkish and Chinese languages

We’ve also been alerted that the Argentine Peso (ARS) is being incorrectly labelled as the Australian Dollar. This will be fixed shortly and should be corrected the next time you update the exchange rates.

We’ve rebuilt the ads system in the More Applications screen to be clearer and more user-friendly. But what does all this mean?

For Users

First of all we know we know you don’t want adverts getting in the way – so the only place they will appear is in the more applications menu. If you don’t want to view them, you don’t have to.

High Quality, Relevant and Useful Applications

These won’t be adverts in the traditional sense. Every advert must be for a Windows Mobile application, and every one that will be shown to you will be compatible with your device and have a free or trial version available for direct download which will be tested and scanned for viruses by our team before it is approved.

The adverts are designed to be short and touch friendly. Each advert contains the application name, a short description, a small logo or screenshot and links to a free/trail download and the applications’ website. Probably better to show you:

We’ve limited the maximum number of adverts shown to 4 currently, to ensure you only see high quality applications.

Privacy

For tracking, we use a hash of your device ID. This allows us to uniquely identify advert clicks, but there is no way to track this back to your device. This information will never be supplied to advertisers or third parties.

Here are all the things we use when targeting application adverts to your device:

Device type (e.g. Touch Diamond, HD2)
Device screen resolution (e.g. VGA/WVGA)
The current language uCONVERT is displayed in
Whether you are using the Lite version of uCONVERT or not

An advertiser will be able to know for instance, that a user using an English HTC HD2 who has purchased uCONVERT clicked on their advert at 9pm on a Sunday night, but they won’t have any way to tell who that user is, where they are or what their name is.

We’d never supply any information that could be used to uniquely identify you such as your name and address; and we don’t ever supply any information from customer records to anyone for any purpose whatsoever! (*except if we were legally required to do so)

Get your application noticed – with over 30,000 downloads, advertising in uCONVERT is a perfect way to get your Windows Mobile application advertisement delivered to people who use Windows Mobile applications, and want more!

Delivering highly relevant adverts only to the users who choose to see them ensures that every view of your advert is highly likely to lead to a goal conversion for you. The adverts are designed to be eye-catching and touch-friendly. The typical ad format looks like this:

Targeting

You can choose to run one advert for all devices/resolutions, or separate adverts for each one. Here are all the options available to you:

Device platform (OS)
Device type (e.g. Touch Diamond, HD2)
Device screen resolution (e.g. VGA/WVGA)
Language
Whether the user has purchased uCONVERT or not

We limit the maximum number of adverts targeted at any one unique device configuration at a time to 4 currently to ensure each advert gets a good placement in the menu.

Priority

So what determines where your advert will appear in the list? Since all adverts delivered to a device must be compatible with it we’ve limited it to one metric at the moment – something we call priority.

Quite simply, the greater the priority, the higher up the list it will appear. Exactly where in the list depends on the priority of the other adverts.

Pricing

We’re currently working the pricing model and we’d like to hear from anyone interested.

Priority points would be charged a flat rate of $0.99 for each point for each advert.

uCONVERT 2.3.0 Released!

That’s right folks, uCONVERT 2.3.0 is now officially available- starting from now if you purchase or download uCONVERT you’ll be getting the 2.3.0 version.

Existing customers should start getting emails with a link to the update in the next 5 minutes – if you haven’t got your email within 2-3 hours of this post just send a friendly email to support@uconvert.us with either a transaction ID (from a purchase or previous update email) or the email you used when purchasing.

Upgrading to uCONVERT 2.3.0

With the release of uCONVERT 2.3.0 coming tomorrow, we thought it necessary to bring you some important information about upgrading to uCONVERT 2.3.0 (this information does not apply for new installs)

Converter Interface

By default the interface is now adapted for right-handed people, as such many of the interface controls will be on the opposite side of the screen compared to previous versions. If you’d like to return to the old arrangement, just set your handedness to ‘Left handed’ in the options screen.

Favorites

When upgrading to uCONVERT 2.3.0 you will lose your saved favorites (we’re real sorry about this). The favorites system was reworked for uCONVERT 2.3.0 to better handle currencies.

Shortcut Icon Quality

If you currently have issues with the start menu and/or programs menu shortcut icon then you’ll need to follow these 2 simple steps to ensure the icon is fixed when you upgrade:

Uninstall uCONVERT using Settings->Remove Programs
Soft reset/restart your device (turn off and on)

Fixing ‘Flash Lite is not available for this Device’

We know a few of you have had troubles getting uCONVERT installed, so here’s some help if you’re having trouble.

uCONVERT requires the Adobe Flash Lite 3.1 Distributable Player for applications. Installing the Distributable Player will not affect any existing installations of Flash Lite, nor will it allow you to view Flash Lite content in a browser.

If you currently have uCONVERT installed and it’s not working, here are the steps we’d recommend:

Uninstall uCONVERT and Adobe Flash Lite 3.1 (if installed)
Soft reset/restart your device
Install Flash Lite 3.1
Install uCONVERT

Update: if you have problems with the Flash Lite file downloaded from this site please contact our support team and request the file via email, we’ve had a quite a few people report that this solves the issue.

More on uCONVERT 2.3.0

We thought you’d bring you some more information about the next version of uCONVERT along with an estimated release date.

First of all we’ve pushed back our release date after being notified of a bug in the favorites system that can cause incorrect information after currencies are updated. We’ve reworked the favorites system for the next version of uCONVERT so these problems will be eliminated, but it does mean that you will lose saved favorites from uCONVERT versions 2.2.x and below.

We’ve also got another language to add to uCONVERT – Portuguese (pt) – bringing the total number of languages in uCONVERT 2.3.0 to 10.

We’ve had a request or two for a more-feature rich calculator in the program. Our main problem is not the calculator and functions itself, but how to create quick and useful shortcuts between the calculator and converter display without cluttering the UI. The popup menu is already large enough – we could remove some of the calculator functions from the converter display to make room for some new UI buttons, since these would now be present in the calculator display.

What’s Coming in uCONVERT 2.3.0

Based on the feedback and requests we’ve had from several of you, we’ve decided to implement several changes in uCONVERTas well as adding some new features.

The option to choose which hand (left or right) you use most. The converter interface will adjust accordingly.
The option to choose a most used/favorite category, this will appear at the top of the list of categories
The option to choose whether the Favorites category appears at the top or bottom of the list of categories
Italian language (it)
Dutch language (nl)
New units (more information on these soon)

Some of you have also reported problems with the shortcut/application icon quality in uCONVERT 2.x, so we’ll be looking into this.

To celebrate the release of uCONVERT 2.x we’ve given the website a makeover, whilst also moving the back-end to Wordpress.

And it’s not all cosmetic – we’ve added this blog with comments so you can give us some feedback, as well as other improvements such as a support ticket form in the help section.
