UberNote Seed Funding

We are happy to announce we have received seed funding from a well respected investment group. We feel great that we have some validation on what we are trying to accomplish with UberNote.

This investment allows us to have the full founding team working full-time on UberNote. Be on the lookout for many more improvements as we continue to grow.

Firefox Toolbar 2.0.0.0 Released

Check out version 2.0.0.0 of UberNote's Firefox Addon / Toolbar.

We've taken a lot of user feedback and hope this streamlines all our user's web clipping, note taking and bookmarking needs.

Here are highlights of the new features for version 2.0.0:

Added ability to tag, share or edit the note before submission.
Status indicator after saving.
New Bookmark only views, with visual bookmark.
Fully compatible with NoScript.

Goodbye Evernote, Hello Ubernote (user post)

Why she left Evernote:

Evernote’s Web interface was slow and complicated, and required you to jump through several hoops to deal with the notes you needed. Click once to get in, click another time to get the folder you want, click again on the note after squinting at its thumbnail, click, click, click.

Praises on UberNote:

It’s clean, simple and streamlined. And my notes get to go back to an easy way of getting organised. I can dump notes, file them according to tags—just enough of a file attribute without allowing me to get too obsessive—and do a neat search from the side. Easy.

Collaboration Improvements

Easier Sharing - Sharing your notes is much easier with our Share button. You can directly input anyone's email address or UberNote user name and your note is instantly shared.
Comments - A comment can be added to any of your notes or notes shared with you.
My Notes - To see just your notes, there is now a "My Notes" navigation link.

Little fixes (with big impact)

Auto Link Detection - When editing a note, hyperlinks are now automatically detected.
Keeping Sort Order - If you change your sort order, UberNote remembers it as your preference.

Wiki-Style Note Linking (Experimental)

Based on user requests, we have now added the ability to add links to notes from another note. Use the link note button in the editor to create a link to a note.

Performance Update

As UberNote's user base and number of notes has increased, you may have noticed a slower response from the web application.

This weekend we updated UberNote with some performance tweaks. Load up time, search, viewing tags and listing notes should all be faster. We also fixed an issue with UberNote taking a long time to logout.

Expand Multiple Notes for Editing

With our recent update we added multiple actions to notes in the list view. This allows users to tag, trash or delete multiple notes at the same time.

While were were developing this recent update, we stumbled upon a feature we thought was really innovative and useful; the ability to Expand Multiple Notes at the same time.

It is a really handy feature when you are working with many notes. I personally use it when I take a few notes I wrote over the last day and am consolidating them into one single note. It saves me from having to switch back and forth between notes.

Here's a quick set of steps on how to do this:

1. Check off all the notes you want to open

2. Click on the "Open Selected" link near the top.

3. All the notes you selected are now open and ready to edit.

UberNote continues to improve, by bringing more features that users request!

Search Improvements
UberNote's search just improved by leaps and bounds.

Full Text - Search using full text terms ( i.e. "apple or mac")
Improved Results Display - Search results display the part of the note where your term was found with your term in bold

Multi-Actions in List view
Ever since we released the list view last month, it was obvious everyone wanted to perform multiple actions with selected notes from the list.

Easily Select Notes - You can select notes in the list by clicking the checkbox or holding down "CTRL" on your keyboard and clicking on the note
Actions - Tag, Trash, Delete, Mark Public.... You can do it all!
Open Selected - Select multiple notes and open all of them in the expanded view

Auto-complete Tags
Tagging just got easier with the new auto-complete functionality. Just type part of a tag and the tag input box will complete the name based on the tags that you already have.

Toolbar and Bookmarklet Tag Notes
Users can now tag notes right after they clip or bookmark them. This feature works with both the existing bookmarklets and Firefox toolbars. No need to update!

ioBridge Web-Enables any device and monitors with UberNote

Our friends at ioBridge have just completed beta testing of a truly innovative module that allows you to control and monitor practically any device through the Internet.

We were fortunate enough to work with ioBridge to help demonstrate the ease of integration with open web services. UberNote served as a monitoring component of some of their beta tested projects where the users could access their data anywhere.

Backup and Export Your Notes

I was reviewing our user feedback and one of the voted features that came to my attention was Export Notes. I was a bit surprised to see it there because we have a feature that handles this request. Then I realized we could do a better job at presenting some of these features, which is the reason for this blog post.

(*If you have tried this before and had issues with how long it takes, the download has been drastically improved)

Directions to backup / export your notes

After you are logged in, go to the Settings and Tools link at the top.
On the right hand side there is our Import / Export area.
Click the Backup link and save the HTML file to your computer.

Tips and Advantages

Since it's an HTML file, you can view it offline with any browser.
Use your browser's search function to find specific notes.
Your UberNote backup is readable without any additional software.
Feel better that you have a copy.

Feature: Easier Tagging by Drag and Drop

A lesser known feature of UberNote is drag and drop tagging. You can drag and drop a tag from the left hand side tag list to your note.

This feature works in both list and expanded views.

Web Application Improvements
We are proud to release this next set of updates for UberNote. We've worked very hard to improve the user experience and hope to continue with your help.

Listview - Notes can be viewed in a list with titles and summaries. The expanded view (the previous default) is still available by changing the view in the top right hand corner.
Faster Multiple Tag Entries - Multiple tags can now be added at the same time by typing the names of the tags separated by a comma.
Remove Formatting - You can remove the formatting of a note using the "eraser" icon in the editor bar of the note.
Note Sharing Emails - Sharing a note also emails a copy to the recipient, so users do not have to have an UberNote account for a note to be shared with them.
Speed and Performance - There have been many speed and performance improvements to the application. Note loads and the dashboard should be a lot faster.

Twitter Integration and iGoogle Gadget

Twitter Integration
Users can submit notes from their Twitter accounts. This means you can send notes into UberNote using text messages through the Twitter service. Check out the instructions here

iGoogle Gadget
Our iGoogle Gadget has been completed, and is really easy to install. Just click the button below:

Your UberNote gadget will now be available whenever you login to iGoogle.

Vote/Submit Public Feature Requests

We have created an area where users can vote and submit public feature requests. We have already added many of the requests we have received over email.

You can track the status of requests by the labels put on them. Many of the requests are already labeled with "In progress" so you know those features are coming.

We still allow for direct private feedback and our discussion forums for users. We feel all of these methods of gaining user feedback have their place.

Check out the new area so you can let us know what features you want and what features you agree with. (To view this page, it does require an UberNote account.)

Update to "Growing Pains"

I wanted to update our users on the Growing Pains post that I made a couple of weeks ago.

You've probably noticed UberNote is much faster since then. Since then, we've progressively made adjustments to our server and database to provide the best experience possible.

There are other improvements along with some new features that are currently being tested but should be released in the next couple of weeks.

If you are experiencing any major performance issues, please let us know.

UTF-8 Support in Emails and Google Notebook Importer

Our email receiving service (where you send in emails that are converted to notes) and our Google Notebook importer now support UTF-8 in all note contents, titles and tags.

We are proud to support UTF-8 throughout UberNote and welcome all international users.

Duplicate tags fixed

Do you have a duplicate tags issue?

In certain instances if you imported multiple Google Notebooks with the same tags, you may have ended up with duplicate tags in your UberNote account.

If this happened to you please email feedback (at) ubernote (dot) com with "DUPLICATE TAGS" in the subject and your user name in the body.

This issue has been fixed so new imports won't have the same issue.

Fixed: Google Import "Error parsing Atom export file"

Thanks to our users informed us about importing issues so quickly, we have fixed all the known issues.

If you came across the "Error parsing Atom export file" we have addressed it as of 11:00AM EST. So please try it again.

Also if you had any issues with importing notes that were just bookmarks, where they came up blank. We fixed that one around 2am EST.

If anyone has any additional issues, feel free to contact us. The best way would be to email feedback (at) ubernote.com with your import file attached.
