Title: MindFULLness Eating Lecture-What’s Eating You?
Parnassus Campus
Date: Monday, February 27th
Time: 12-1pm
Location: Golden Gate conference center, Millberry Union
Sign up here:
http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/636020/MindFULLness-Eating-Lecture-2-27-12
FREE lunch will be provided to all attendees

Food has the power to temporarily alleviate stress and sadness, and bring us comfort when we need it most. It’s no wonder experts estimate that 75 percent of overeating is triggered by our emotions, and not by physical hunger.

In this workshop you’ll learn all the tools to take weight off and keep it off permanently. It’s not about the diet!”

Come learn from one of the best in the field. Ellen Resnick, psychotherapist in private practice and assistant clinical professor at UCSF. She specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and incorporates the use of mindfulness into the treatment of depression, anxiety, and emotional overeating.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/ucsf/event-calendar/~4/NbDYcLutUJE" height="1" width="1"/>

Group drumming can be a powerful vehicle for connecting the body, mind and spirit, supporting healing and transformation in the process. Research suggests that facilitated group drumming may enhance immune system functioning, stimulate circulation, improve mood, activate brain functioning, reduce stress, and increase socialization.

DRUMMM Rhythmic Events founder and facilitator Jeni Swerdlow, MA-ATR will create a safe, supportive environment in which participants can freely explore and play. Participants tap into their individual creativity and experience connection to the group while drumming, releasing inhibitions and experiencing true liberation through the drums.

No prior musical training is necessary to participate in this “hands-on” program. Instruments will be provided or participants may bring their own. No charge. Held at the UCSF Medical Center, 2200 Post Street, Hellman Conference Room, C-126. Open to both patients and caregivers. Please register by calling (415) 885-3693. For more information go to www.DRUMMM.com.<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/ucsf/event-calendar/~4/2HZonOdvHms" height="1" width="1"/>

NEXT: UCSF Scientists Outline What’s To Come

UCSF has a long history of pioneering biomedical research and a bold vision for advancing health worldwide. But what
does that really mean in the near future and beyond? Hailing from a wide spectrum of disciplines, six UCSF scientists invite you inside their work to learn what the next decade may bring to the world of medicine. Will neurologists someday ‘print’ information directly into the brain? And will regular eye exams enable detection of diseases such as Alzheimer’s?

Special Highlight
This session will also feature 1997 Nobel laureate Stanley B. Prusiner speaking about prions—a new biological principle of infection that he discovered at UCSF—and their implications for Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Direct from those who live and breathe it every day, find out what’s NEXT in science!

The skin is the largest organ in the human body, and one of the most complex. With such a wide array of functions such as protection, sensation, and excretion, and an integral repair system, our skin can also manifest an equally complicated variety of symptoms and signs from the inconsequential to the life-threatening. This course will feature top scientists and clinicians from pediatric, medical and surgery dermatology. We will explore common skin problems, aesthetics, cancers, cutting-edge advances, and even explore skin diseases seen in antiquity.

We have all fallen victim to presentations that leave us bored and confused. In this workshop, formerly called Presentation Zen, you will learn to become a better presenter and create slideshows that enhance your presentations, not detract from them. You will develop an understanding of why templates are bad, and stories are good. Other topics include proper use of images and basic design principles. Please bring an open mind and a presentation that you’d like to enhance.

Please note: we will discuss techniques that you can apply to presentation tools such as PowerPoint, but this workshop will not teach you how to use PowerPoint. Open to UCSF faculty, staff, and students.

Shooting a video interview is something that anyone can do, but it takes practice to produce a quality product. In this workshop, we will discuss and practice techniques for planning and shooting an effective video interview. At the end of the workshop, participants will know how to set a scene, light their subject, capture clean audio, and add a few finishing touches during the editing process. Basic digital video experience is recommended (see our Introduction to Digital Video workshop), but not required. Open to UCSF faculty, staff, and students.
