My Mom thought 'good now at least he will buy motorbike.But I thought 'good. now at least i can buy new cycle'.But i was lazy to go and buy :). Finally I bought a cycle in October. Its Hercules ACT 110. I bought it for 9050 including VAT ( with bell and lock :) ). I liked that model at first sight.
Black , thin tyre, very light, very good breaking. Looks are good. many kids have told nodo race cycle :) . My sister has told i feel proud to stand beside ur cycle than u :).Even the ride is very good. smooth , effortless.
My home is at banashankari and my office is at Nagavara. exactly 20 kms. Initially i thought it would be difficult to cycle to office. I thought it would take more than 90 mins and it would be very tiring. So i thought i will do some running this that and then give it a try. Me being very lazy to get up early in the morning that day never came :(. So one day i gave it a try .
I started 9oclock from my home. I took 30 minutes to reach majestic.26 more minutes to Hebbal fly over from majestic. 25 more minutes to reach manyata techpark(this part i was slow mainly because of traffic).Route i took is hanumanth nagar-chamrajpet -goodshed road -majestic - sheshadri puram road - parallel to railway track road- air port road(till hebbal)- Ring road.Totally i took 71 minutes which was pretty good i thought.while returning i came via hebbal-chalukya circle- corporation circle-KR market- chamarajpet-basavana gudi-hanumant nagar-banashankari. It took roughly 90 minutes. most of the time is spent in traffic again. :(

Difficulties i had.
* distance
* lack of water bottle stand
* traffic. especially suddenly breaking. Gaining the same speed from zero is difficult especially near fly overs
* traffic flow decides which route i have to take
* going over flyover especially on air port road.

Few learnings
* Show signals properly and early.
* look back regularly.
* use service roads if possible.
* keep cycle (especially breaks )in proper condition.
* plan where you need to go fast/slow.

Now i go to office twice a week in cycle. roughly i take 65-70 mins while going and 65-85 mins while returning. I feel now i know how to maneuver in bangalore traffic in cycle :). one thing i miss is company while cycling :( .

Happy Cycling.

Savanadurga

Hmm. this was in the last from last 3 years. On Friday(6th Feb) azhar pinged me and asked 'whats ur plan for weekend'. I just went to his desk . He had opened someones savandurga blog.I called up 2 frds but no one responded positively.But we fixed that we both will go on next day. But we both knew that It wont happen this time also as one or the other will get some work and it will be canceled.At 1030 in night i called up azhar and told will meet at KR Market.

Next day morning we both at KR market at 715 and got into private bus to Magadi. we got down at Hospete which is half a km from Magadi.It was 930 .There we had breakfast and got 2 liter water bottle and 4 bananas.From there we got KSRTC Bus to NayakanaPalya. Many buses fly from Magadi to Ramanagar via NayakanaPalya. From there we asked Auto guy. he said 10 rs per head. He wanted to carry many people.So he waited for some more. 5 people came and got into auto in front of us. We could not get in.He asked both of us to sit beside his. we refused as it would have been difficult to sit there for 4 kms. If he had carried other at least, he would have earned 50rs at least. But he was thinking to for 20rs more.So he waited for 2-3 mins thinking what can he do. But a KSRTC bus came all of them got into Bus.Ati aase gatigedu :)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_iO7NSvcHVmY/SZlMjt3rNtI/AAAAAAAAAzY/zw-ApOVUb4A/s400/DSC01078.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5303354212697716434" />

Once we reached savanadurga we were searching for the starting point to the hill. we met one trekking group asked them way to go.One guy said there are two ways. one is a shortcut and showed the route.I was shocked to see that path till half it was like doable but difficult. After that It was impossible. that guy continued and told 'we are going by this route. other path is very long. It will take long time. would u like to join us. last time two strangers joined us and they had told it was very good'. Azhar looked at me. I said to him 'Pagal hai kya'. With no doubt in mind we took the longest route and started climbing. It was around 1030.

In first 10 minutes it self we realized that its not going to be easy. last time trek we did was Kumara parvatha in Feb 2007. The only physical activity i am doing now is cycling to office (2*7km a day).Azhar after his marriage had put on weight. There are many markings on the rocks showing way to go. Simply follow them or electric poles. In the middle of the way, there is steep incline which is difficult to do (at least for me)if there were no carves.Once that is done rest of the way is easy.We reached the top at 1130. There we met 2 groups. In one group, there was a girl with very good figure. She was posing for camera like a model. me and azhar sat on the top where there was strong breeze.Azhar was telling about his engineering life. I was listening to him and in the meantime was watching that model. I dont even remember what it looks from the top. That much i was concentrating on her :). After sometime a group which we had met during the start came. during the conversation the same guy told 'in the short cut route there is only one point which is difficult. even though i had done it earlier i get scared. I will get scared even if i do that 100 times. but from that point u cant go back also'. my first impression about him was he is doing show off. but after he told he was scared i felt that man has guts. hmm. On the top he was smoking bidi. :) that looked very cool to me. :)
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_iO7NSvcHVmY/SZlLlPHn2YI/AAAAAAAAAzA/c47agweGb1I/s200/DSC01096.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5303353139291216258" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_iO7NSvcHVmY/SZlL0I1sR1I/AAAAAAAAAzI/4bNk4UidIDA/s200/DSC01102.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5303353395303434066" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_iO7NSvcHVmY/SZlMCc_22QI/AAAAAAAAAzQ/jJvuOK8yldM/s200/DSC01098.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5303353641232947458" />

At 1225 we started descend.It was easy till the half mark. getting down near the point where there were carves was the difficult part. One group was coming down with of us. one guy out of them while getting down started walking down slowly but soon he got the momentum and could not control.Thank god two guys stopped him. from down it was looking like fardeen khan runnung in No entry in climax :) we reached bottom at 1. then we go into auto till nayakanapalya. from there Magadi and then to Bangalore.
Overall a memorable one.
things that i will rememeber in this trip
-talk with the group at starting point
-climb near half way mark
-that girl posing to camera
-talk with guy who was smokin bidi
-guy running down and gaining the momentum and 2 of his frds stopping him

Download links for UBUNTU

Last week I installed Ubuntu Gutsy Gibson - &.10 on my AMD 64 bit machine.
I was struggling to get different softwares in deb package format.
Today found 2 links where we can download deb packages in 2 clicks :).
So posting it here
http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/
http://packages.ubuntu.com/gutsy/

Water falls list in karnataka

Today I got one link in which there is a list of waterfalls in karnataka
thought of posting the link . here it is .

Family mart-Kaggalipura- bannerughatta

On 1st Sept, me and Gaurav(one of the member of Bangalore-bikers) decided to do the Family mart-Kaggalipura- bannerughatta route. We had decided that We will start at exactly 615.

I started from Ramamurthynagar at 0445 on my Hero Nitrogen (fitted with some local 6 speed gears)
I reached Silk board around 0545. Reached Family mart at 0612 . :) Gaurav was waiting with hi trek4300 . My cycle is nothing on front of that in any angle except Price. (rs 23000 vs rs 2400 :-) ) I was little tired as i have not big trips on cycle earlier (except Big banyan tree) . We started at 625

weather was cool. It was drizzling. Road was good till Kaggalipura. Gaurav was too fast for me.
Reasons were many
- Cycle
- My water bottle which was not fitting properly on my carrier
- Lack of riding practice
- My riding style (I prefer to go slowly in downhills and enjoy the sceneries)

Reached kaggalipura at 0705. stopped there for 10 mins for water
Gaurav warned me that now its going to be tough as we need to climb. :(
Road was too bad as construction work was going on. Gaurav had to wait for me at 2 places as i was lagging behind.

Reached bannerughatta junction at 0810.From there it was easy .
reached JPNagar at 845. From here i had to cycle alone till my House.
I had breakfast and started at 915. I was fully exhausted as i did this whole cycling trip with the help one single cup tea and 1 litre water. My stupidity. :(
I cycled at snails pace and reached home at 1040 via MGRoad, Old Madras road.
I should have taken the same route while going also but didnt do that as i was unaware of correct route.
For Next cycling trip i need to do following things
-Breakfast
-Energy bars
-Good cycle( Or add suspension to the exising one)
-Water bottle carrier

route i followed is http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1348943

Cycling trip to Big Banyan Tree

After fitting gears to my cycle on august 24th, I thought of doing the small trip on cycle to Big Banyan tree.
I left home at 1030 on Sunday , august 26th.
Reached Magadi Road at around 1145. Reached Tavarekere at 1230 and ate some bananas to get some energy. Took left turn from there and reached Banyan tree at 1330. Sat there for half an hour and had kunch there.
I left that place at 1400 reached Mysore road around 230. I suffered lot to ride through that Kengeri on Mysore Road. I don't know whether It is because roads were like that or I was too much tired. Stopped near satellite Bus stand for coconut water.
Reached K.R Market at 1600. From there reached Home at 1700.

Route I followed is http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=1259379

Jog Falls

This is Continuation of last blog. :)
august 19
Sunday morning me , my elder brother and father got ready to go to joga as decided on the previous day.
we caught a bus to honnavar, from there caught bus which goes to bangalore via mavinagundi It is around 5km away from joga.
we reached maavinagundi at 1030. We asked local people there about how to go to jog falls from there. To my surprise their answer was "go by bus which will
come at 12oclock." In bangalore we are so much used to BMTC buses, that even 15minutes at bus stop seems like a year." :(
So we started to walking.
weather was cool as it was raining almost for 5mins in one hour.
After around 40mins of walk we reached British bungalow from which one can go to the spot where "Kunidu kunidu baare"song of mungaaru male was shot. we didn't go that place exactly as it needs lot of guts.(by the time i started to write this blog, I heard that one girl fell from that spot).We just saw that place from distance and started walking to other side of jog falls from where one can trek down to the bottom of the falls.
as soon as we started trekking down, rain started pouring like anything. So we started to think about going back, but i forced others to start trekking down.
It took 45 mins to get down. We got delayed mainly because there were many people who were coming up as it started raining.

We had our brunch near that falls and sat for half an hour.
I was thinking that we will get delayed as my father who is already 60 years will be slow while trekking up.
But i was totally wrong.He was very strong and even faster than both of us.
I thought we will reach the top within half an hour. But there was traffic jam :( Not a new thing or bangaloreans. But this was not because of vehicles.surprisingly It was because of people. there was no space even to move. many ladies and small children were struggling to breath.
we got delayed by nearly half an hour.
Rain started pouring again. but this time rain continued for half an hour. In that heavy rain we had to get wet as there was no shelter . :( but that was the best part of the trip.:)
From there we got a bus to talaguppa (which is on the way to saagar from there ) after waiting for an hour .From there we got a direct bus to kumta which reached at 830.
I had to catch bus at 9:15PM to bangalore.End of a very good trip.
I have decided that i will visit jog falls every year in rainy season, but not on Sunday.

To My Native Kumta

August 15

I went to goode-angadi beach in my cycle. I went there just because i wanted to go out

somewhere. This is the place i like very much that kumta beach. It was not pleasant journey as my cycle was in worst condition (no paddle on one side, rim was bent, bell not working but it was compensated as all parts were shaking horribly making big sound :-)). I was not able to see sun set as sun was behind big clouds. But I got a chance to watch closely fought cricket match.

August 16

I had decided to go to aghanashini which is more than 12 km from kumta.
Route chitrigi-holanagadde-baada-kaagal-aghanashini

I left home at 4-30. Till baada road is good. Nice sceneries. But after that one can get to see only good sceneries. Road is too bad.After kaagal one has to climb up for around half kilo meter. From there one can get good view of Aghanashini River.

I stopped there for 15 mins to get some pictures. now started riding down the hill for around 1 and half km to reach bank Aghanishini River.

It was just like divgi near to hegde. But the difference is, from here you can see the river joining Arabian Sea.

After spending 15 mins there i returned to goode-angadi beach this time i could get glimpse of sunset. :) I got few photos and returned back to home. It was 7.45 by the time i reached home.

One of my longest ride in cycle.

August 17

Rest day. Actually i wanted to go to Jog falls. But I postponed it to Sunday as I was feeling lazy. :)

August 18

As it was nagar panchami, visited masti katte and thought about going to chandavar.
   It is around 10km from my home. it took half an hour to reach there.

on the way i got glimpse of western Ghats covered under clouds. I was very happy looking at that as i was going to jog falls for which i need to cross Western Ghats.

August 19

Jog falls.I will post about that in next blog. :)
And finally my cycle.. :-)
