First glimpse of our mammoth ongoing project to rebrand MTV International.

..........................................

We are asked directly to devise the on-air, web and print rebrand of MTV
for an international audience of 524 million viewers. Its purpose to cement
the channel's reputation as a powerhouse of youth-oriented programming
and creative output.

The aim is to continue and enhance the innovative spirit of MTV's 27 year
legacy, and to establish a coherent brand language across 160 different
countries spanning 31 languages including Japanese, Russian and Chinese.

This resulted in the reinvention of the onscreen information graphics
with a timeline based system to establish 'Where you are in MTV time'.

An ongoing series of unique 'Pop-Art' idents have risen from the new manifesto - POP X 1000% - celebrating and amplifying pop culture in all its glory - Love x 1000%, Desire x 1000%........and more

The sound design plays a key part in the branding, a unique MTV 'pulse' runs
through all idents and promos - the content reacting and dancing along.

..........................................

Still to come :

5 x 50 page brand guideline books for broadcast systems, in-house design teams and new directors.

Ongoing series of idents - directed by us, our favourite directors and emerging new talent

..........................................

Created in collaboration with Roberto Bagatti - Creative Director of MTV World Design Studio Milano and Dylan Griffith - Creative Director of MTV North.

Commissioned by Pringle Brandon Architects, as part of their interior architecture for the headquarters of a global investment bank, we were asked to create realtime video content for the UK's first curved LED videowall which leads visitors into the building.

By devising a 'flowing river' structure allowing horizontal slices of content to flow around the curve, Phase#1 features a series of time-linked panoramic city scenes which collage and build from these slices, alongside the horizontal flow of realtime stocks, markets and world times.

The cityscapes form a trompe-l'oeil impression of looking out onto the bank's related locations worldwide.

The Victoria & Albert Museum presents Forever. Floating above the pond within the John Madejski Garden, a large videowall installation of endless animations responding to an ever changing soundtrack. The bespoke generative design system at the heart of Forever will spawn unique audio-visual films everyday, forever.

An online installation, generating an endless series of video podcasts is available to coincide with the display.

Our role as designers was to define the parameters in which the work evolved.
In response to the pond, the sculpture continually grows upwards from the water, all movement stems from a central 'spine' which reacts to the music, and it has evolutionary points set over time, causing the work to alter in appearance and intensity over its 2 month lifespan.

This evolution will occur naturally as the installation tours to other venues worldwide, the form of the digital installation will alter depending on the venue.

21 November 2008 - 1 February 2009 ..........................................

Initiated in early 2007, we formed this project as an exploration of audio-visual film works. By embracing the new mediums of video podcasting, Vimeo, digital cinema distribution and mobile content the series has now seeded itself way beyond our expectations.

Overview
.........................................

Advanced Beauty is an ongoing exploration of digital artworks born and influenced by sound, an ever-growing collaboration between programmers, artists, musicians, animators and architects.

The first collection is a series of audio-reactive 'video sound sculptures'. Inspired by synasthesia, the rare, sensory experience of seeing sound or tasting colours, these videos are physical manifestations of sound, sculpted by volume, pitch or structure of the soundtrack.

The films embrace unusual video making processes, the visual programming language Processing, high-end audio analysis and fluid dynamic simulations alongside intuitive responses in traditional cell animation. Each artist was given the same set of parameters to work within; to start, finish and exist within a white space, creating a seamless coherence, all sculptures sharing the same white environment.

Using the 1080p HD format, with 5:1 surround sound, the films transform the screen into a digital canvas, how the minimalism of a single, floating pixel can be as engaging as the maximalism of an intense multicoloured explosion.

Curated by Universal Everything and musician Simon Pyke, Advanced Beauty is an international collaboration, taking in a family of artists from London, Russia, New York, Japan, Buenos Aires, Glasgow to San Francisco.

This collection of films in the first in a series of exhibitions including commissions for the Victoria & Albert Museum, London and galleries in Europe, USA and Japan.
