Once held under lock and key, Lisa Perry is finally opening Madison Avenue’s best-kept secret: The Vault.

Late last year, Lisa transformed the former Madison Avenue Citibank into her flagship Manhattan store. Now, Lisa Perry is opening up the vault downstairs to customers offering discounted merchandise from current and past seasons with almost everything close to 75% off!

The Vault will feature $200, $300 and $400 racks and a table of pick-me-up items – accessories, books, trinkets - that range in price from $5 to $100. (There are even fake jewelry and money pouring out of the safety deposit boxes.)

It's not often you see a sample sale on the UES so I just had to check it out for myself this morning. I found some beautiful items at amazing prices! The black and white stunning cashmere coat pictured above was originally $2400, and now is $600!

A bit about the designer: Cho Cheng, has recently been named one of China' s top 5 designers and founded his eponymous fashion house, CHOCHENG in 2007. This talented young designer makes beautifully tailored fashions for elegant women.

Stop by for the SAMPLE SALE as well as for a preview of the Spring/Summer 2010 - fresh off the runway at Bryant Park last week. The inspiration was Breakfast at Tiffany's (one of the dresses looks like a Tiffany box) and features impeccably tailored jackets and ensembles with unexpected details, cocktail dresses and couture evening gowns. All items made in New York, using all natural fiber and handcrafted fabrics imported from England, Scotland and Ireland.

Last Friday I was invited by On Location Tours to partake in the NYC Gossip Girl Tour. Now, before you say or think anything...I have to admit, I have watched maybe a total of one hour of the show (spread out over 5-10 minute increments) so I went in rather blind. And old. As in almost as old as some of the mothers who brought their teenage daughters. However, I have to say...the combination of our fabulous and entertaining tour guide, the incredibly nice people I met on the tour and our air-conditioned luxury bus made for quite the enjoyable afternoon.

All 44 of us met under the wrought iron gate of the New York Palace Hotel (where some of the colorful cast of characters live and where the kids hang out at Gilt eating grilled cheese with truffle oil sandwiches). From there our entertaining and in control tour guide Meghan gathered us all on the bus and explained we would be seeing over 40 locations in a little over 3 hours!

We began our tour on the Upper East Side, of course. Meghan opened with "What's up Upper East Siders!" In the busload of mostly foreign tourists, I am pretty sure I was the only UES resident, but I was more than happy to play tourist for the day...camera and all. We headed up Madison to see important stores like Vera Wang and restaurants like Centrolire. Other sites to note were Synod of Bishops Russian Church (the back entrance of the fictitious Constance school), the Museum of the City of New York (the front entrance of the school), The Met steps (where the mean girls eat lunch consisting of apples and yogurt), 1136 5th Ave. (Blair Waldorf's home) and 74th at Madison (the exterior of the Archibald residence).

Some locations we saw from the bus and for some we disembarked for picture taking. We even made stops at Dylan's Candy Bar (I resisted) and Henri Bendel's (I did not resist as the 20% off coupon we were given was too good to pass up).

While on the bus we were also shown clips from the show highlighting some of the locations we had just seen. For those of us who are not show fanatics, this was a great help and really put things in perspective. I thought I recognized some of the locations! Wait, are those high school kids really drinking at The Campbell Apartments at Grand Central? You betcha! We saw quite a few restaurants, stores and of course drinking establishments where the upper crust kids like to imbibe.

While the show is about privileged teenagers on the Upper East Side and that is where most of the filming takes place, it is shot all over Manhattan so the tour took us everywhere from the UES, to midtown, to the Flat Iron District, to the East Village, Nolita and even the Bowery. The tour ended at Union Square. Over 40 sites in 3.5 hours! I was wiped by the end. However, I have to say, On Location Tours and Meghan did a great job. Thanks for the fun afternoon! It was fun being a tourist a while. Oh and if Gossip Girl ain't your thing...they also offer a Sex and the City tour.

Little Bo Bu and the Duck

OK, I admit I normally stay far away from covering men's and children's apparel, but let's face it...behind every fashionista Mom worth her grain is a gaggle of well-dressed children. I mean you can't be considered a true lover of fashion if your offspring look they are are wearing rags, right? When I heard designer Rachel Roy rave about the amazing turn of the century inspired children's clothing store Bu and the Duck I had to check it out. Lo and behold I was thrilled to discover there is an outpost of this Tribeca boutique now on the Upper East Side (316 E. 84th St.) so my trusty dog Nigel (and partner in fashion crime) and I just had to go check it out!

Walking into the store is like stepping back in time. A time before there was a Gap Kids and mass produced, cheaply made children's togs void of any style. Apparently, Bu and the Duck is a cult favorite for in-the-know New York moms. All of the clothing is made by owner and designer Susan Lane who was inspired by American children's clothing of the 30's and 40's. The racks hold precious knit jumpers, plaid overalls, darling dresses and adorable stripped tees....perfect for layering. In fact, I was really hoping for something in my size! The shelves are are filled with top-quality cotton tops, hand-knit sweaters and leggings, Italian leather cobbled shoes (like Mary Janes) & boots, and beautiful hand-crafted wooden toys. Truly exquisite.

If you are like me and think little boys get totally ripped off in the fashion department and all the cute clothes are reserved just for girls, then this is the store for you! In fact, I'm expecting a little bundle of boy this fall and can't wait to go back and blow a ton of coin on my new addition. It's not cheap by any means, but hey...my kid will be worth it and they do have some impressive sales. Bu and the Duck should also be your go-to place for baby shower gifts...what a way to upstage the other gifts!

Don't worry, I promise this will not turn into a Mommy shopping column!

A Second (and Third) Chance

I walk by A Second Chance Designer Resale Boutique at 1109 Lexington Ave. (between 77th & 78th streets) every time I get off the subway on my way home. Truth be told, I hardly do anything but look straight ahead because I am afraid to glance at the puppies in the pet store window next door. My heart aches for them, so I avert my eyes and look for the Tasti-D-Lite (of which I have a slight addiction...OK, major) a few doors down.

However, I am always up for a good second hand store, especially since I am constantly searching for a discontinued Chanel bag I hope I will someday locate. Well, if you are in the market for a Chanel bag then this is your store. Mind you, I think the bags are still really pricey. That's why I joke that I have given the place a second, third and fourth chance. Upon my last visit I noticed the bags had marked down...slightly. Most of the Chanel bags are $1,999 which still seems like a lot considering they are used not a ton cheaper then buying one retail. Since times are tough I imagine a lot of women on the Upper East Side are looking to unload some of their luxury handbags in favor of some quick cash. I can also tell you these bags are the real deal.

While there are designer clothes and shoes at A Second Chance (I saw a fantastic Fall '08 Dolce & Gabbana dress for $199), the real focus at this tiny second floor store are the bags! Besides around 50 Chanel bags I saw some Valentino for about $1299, a YSL black suede Muse for $750 and a few Hermes Birkin bags for about $5500. There is also a huge Louis Vuitton selection if you are so inclined and at my last visit, a massive LV 70cm suitcase for $1299 (mind you, who wants a suitcase these days with no wheels? I don't care what the label is) was proudly displayed.

If you like to dig then I would check out this boutique on a regular basis. There are some real fashion finds jammed onto the overcrowded racks. Also, if you are into Chanel jewelry, the selection is very impressive.

I would recommend giving A Second Chance at least that...a second chance. Maybe a third or fourth too because with so much merchandise prices are bound to come down even more sometime soon.

Upper East Side H&M Opens Today!

The red carpet is out and people are already standing in the drizzle for the anticipated opening of H&M's tenth NYC location on the Upper East Side (86th at Lex) at noon today.

Go now to score some opening day perks! The first 200 customers to line up will get an H&M Access to Fashion Pass, a.k.a. an H&M t-shirt and a shopping card pre-filled with amounts up to $300. The store will also be stocked with the hyped Fashion Against AIDS collection (which isn't available at all stores), including pieces designed by Dita von Teese and Katy Perry.

For Real! Forreal is Closing on Third

So I was walking down Third Avenue today around lunchtime and noticed a giant 'Closing this Location' sale. For real. No I mean it's at Forreal on Third at 77th. I wandered in with my trusty shopping dog, Nigel and we discovered a slew of summer sundresses, jeans, tanks and a staggering amount of Boho prairie skirts circa summer '05...for a song. Forgo the Boho skirts which must have been in their stockroom for 4 years. The clothes are not earth shattering fabulous (unless you are dying for a pink and white tie-dye sundress), but if you are looking to score some $10 bargains you might want to get over there quickly. Hey everybody is looking for buried treasure these days.

Ludivine: The Perfect French Wardrobe on the UES

Every once in a while you walk into a boutique and think..."this is so me!" It doesn't happen often, but when it does, you are smitten. Well just when I had given up and thought I had already reviewed all of the super cool boutiques on the Upper East Side, along comes a new one to prove me wrong. Mind you, it's an offshoot of the original in the West Village, but hey, we'll take it!

This second location of Ludivine has been open since February and is the perfect example of the 'French wardrobe.' According to the owner, Ludivine (who was totally engaging and lovely), French women love not only French clothes and shoes, but Italian and Japanese as well. So there are elements of each within the well-appointed store.

I would have to say the boutique has the largest collection of Vanessa Bruno I have ever seen in one place in the U.S. Ludivine also sells the designer's Parisian cult favorite canvas bags. Other apparel brands include: Golden Goose, Les Prairie de Paris, Massiomo Alba (super soft, tissue tees) and Sette Cinquanta. There as also an amazing selection of French and Italian scarves.

I fell in love immediately with the fabulous collection of Jerome Dreyfuss soft-as-butter leather bags which are all the rage in Paris (especially the Billy bag). Each handbag comes with a tiny flashlight attached (hey, there are no scooping laws in France) and a take-away detachable coin purse. Ludivine told me, the bags are named after men because Dreyfuss understands women love their bags as much, if not more, than their men. That's pretty astute.

Make sure to also check out the K Jacques sandals, the beautiful Italian leather Golden Goose boots and the Nuxe Paris Beauty line.

I promise you will adore this little gem of a store. Apparently many already do. When I went to check it out last Friday afternoon, I was amazed how busy it was, especially in this economy...and women were spending. Remerciez Dieu des miracles mineurs.

The Not So Subtle Seduction of The Shoe Box

When I'm feeling down and blue or I need a little retail therapy, I often find myself wandering into The Shoe Box. Hey, shoes always fit, even when you are having a fat day, right? To say I am a good customer is probably an understatement. I always seem to perk up whenever I walk through the door. Especially when they are having a sale! In fact, I stay far, far away if I know I can't whip out my AMEX without breaking into a cold sweat because resisting the edgy, on-point, lust-worthy selection is futile.

Yes, the store is the size of well, a shoe box, but they manage to pack a lot into a seemingly small amount of space. Brands run the gamut from expensive (Giuseppe Zanotti) to more affordable (Oh Deer!) so there is usually something for almost every budget. Current brands include: Casadei, Celine, French Sole, Givenchy, Jil Sander, Matt Bernson, Proenza Schouler, Sesto Meucci and so many more. They also carry my new favorite brand, Pour La Victoire which look like they cost about $750 a pair, but top out at about $325 which is a relative bargain when it comes to 'luxury' footwear. Check out the brand's amazing cage and gladiator sandals. If you are in need of Hunter boots for those rainy New York days, they also have you covered.

The Shoe Box finally recently launched their e-commerce store so now your friends who live in other parts of the country (like Jersey) can see why you are addicted. But going in and falling in love with your next must-have pair of lovelies is more fun, isn't it?

40 Winks on the Upper East Side

I knew the adorable location of Wink on the Upper East Side for accessories, handbags, jewelry and cult faves Sue London ballet flats and Tolani scarves, but I had no idea they had clothes. Or maybe I just hadn't noticed until the last week when I visited again. I was intrigued to learn owner Ilse Werther was launching a new line of 'Wink' clothing which includes everything from girly ruffle-front frocks, jumpsuits, wide-leg pants, shorts with bustles for spring. So I just had to go and check them out for myself.

To my disappointment, when I ventured to access the collection (for research purposes only...not to do my share to help the economy) I found mostly last fall's apparel on sale from well known contemporary designers like Twinkle and Mike & Chris. Mind you, I kept busy looking at the jewelry. What can I say? I am easily distracted by shiny, blingy things.

However, if you check the Wink website, you will notice their online storefront seems to carry much more than the store could ever hope to carry do to its obvious space limitations. I guess this is good news for those who don't live in NYC.

So lets' talk about the clothes that I'm assuming will find their way into the store on Lexington Ave. I had to cheat and look on their website. From what I can tell, there are some covetable finds (like the Devon pants), but at a price point which seems a little high for the already very competitive and somewhat saturated contemporary market.

Searle on Sale

Now that the dismal holiday season is over I hope this blog doesn't turn into an alert to store closings. However, I fear we are going to see boutiques and stores everywhere (not just the Upper East Side) close in the coming months. What if I soon have little to review? Sad as it is, it does mean one thing...SALES!

WWD just announced today Searle filed for bankruptcy protection last Wednesday. Since Christmas, Searle has been marking down merchandise as much as 80%! And since here are six locations on the upper East Side, I had to check this out for myself. So today I visited the 635 Madison Avenue location.

As much as I don't like be compared to a vulture stalking prey, I do enjoy a good sale so I was eager to do a little 'research.' The store seemed low on inventory. I guess that is to be expected when you are offering 80% off. There was an entire back wall of discounted clothing...mostly private label.

Other brands I saw on sale included: Autumn Cashmere, Bibelot, Jalda, Lauren Merkin bags, Missoni, and as I mentioned, a ton of Searle private label.

I am actually in the market for a down car coat since I am freezing and trying to find a stylish one that doesn't make me look the the Michelin Man is proving quite a challenge. While Searle had some coats that fit the bill. The prices on some (of course the ones I liked) were still pretty high.

Yet, if you are a bargain hunter and like the thrill of the hunt...check out Searle while you still can.

The Little Treasure Hidden 'Beneath'

In an effort to find off-the-beaten path stores and boutiques, I try to walk various streets on my way home from the subway and running errands. I call it 'retail exploration.' A couple of weeks ago I stumbled upon a gem of a little (and I mean little) store while strolling down 78th. Beneath is an adorable tiny boutique nestled on a quiet (for NYC) tree-lined street. It has more of a Nolita feeling than that of an Upper East Side boutique...which I love.

Owner Karyn Riale opened the 300 square foot store three years ago and in that time has managed to cultivate a loyal following. She told me "my whole concept was to fill the store with very easy, casual, affordable basics...with a twist." Therefore you will not only find every day lingerie (as one would expect by the name), but a covetable selection of tops, sweaters, scarves and jewelry. It's amazing how much is really packed into the space. Yet, it feels cozy and accessible.

"At the time I opened the store I thought there was a total need for lingerie and there was nothing in the area that was moderately priced. I carry some of the
designers you might find at Barneys, Fragments and Bergdorfs, but at a lower price," said Riale. "I was tired of finding $300 sweaters at stores in the area and knew of some great brands in the $150 range. I used to travel to California and would find random labels I had never seen in New York, so I wanted to bring my favorites East," she continued.

Brands include lingerie by Cosebella, Eberjay, Hanky Panky, Flirt and Commando. Sweaters and jackets by brands including; Kersh, Acrobat, Susana Monaco, Minnie Rose, Design History & T-Luxury. Jewelry currently carried is by Anna Beck, Yayoi Forest, St. Kilda and Chan Lu. Also available is a Post Pregnancy Hip Slimmer kit for $72 which is supposed to help post-pregnant women find their pre-pregnancy figure quickly (it looks like a corset). I was a little obsessed and I don't even have children...yet. Food for thought or a great gift idea.

Riale is always searching for low-priced unique items and has a great eye. I fell in love with a little ruffled black jacket during my most recent visit. Lucky for my wallet it wasn't available in my size. Phew. However, new items can be found every week to entice loyalists to come back often. I now count myself among that group.

Liz Kelsey...Closes (Everything Must Go)

An unfortunate sign of the times...the store Liz Kelsey is going out of business. How sad. I never had a chance to review it. However, since everything in the store is currently up to 75% off...I did have a chance to shop there today.

Apparel, handbags and shoes are going quickly so get over there soon! In fact I saw a bag that caught my eye in the window yesterday morning on my way back from the gym (the store was closed) and today it was gone! I was told the boutique, which only occupied the corner of 3rd & 78th since last January, had a great opening sale and unfortunatley is now having a great closing sale. It caught on a little too late and in this economic climate that can spell disaster. I have a sneaking suspicion this may not be the only 'everything must go' liquidation I tell you about on the Upper East Side in the months to come...check back after the holidays.

So like vultures on to fresh prey...on to the good stuff. I personally walked out with an amazing three-quarter sleeve black coat and a plum (my obsession) cashmere sweater for a song. Brands you might find include; the Liz Kelsey label, ABS, Julie Haus, Nancy Rose, Walter Baker, Laundry and Yoana Baraschi. There was also an impressive selection of fur jackets and shearling coats if you are in the market.

Liz Kelsey does not charge sales tax on anything! An extra bonus.

Get over there quickly as they expect to be open for just another week or two.

Cream Boutique...Sugar and Spice and Kinda Nice

I have visited Cream Boutique at 1124 3rd Ave. twice. Most recently a few weeks ago. I initially tried to arrange an interview through their PR firm, but was basically blown off. So I went back incognito. Frankly, it has taken me couple of weeks since my last visit to compose my thoughts and I still don't have much to say. I feel I am running into the same boutique week after week. They are becoming indistinguishable. What boutique doesn't carry Graham and Spencer these days? As soon I walked in I was checked out by the sales associate which is something I really resent. I hate attitude. Having worked in retail I know to never judge a book by its cover. You never know who has serious coin to spend and trust me, I was dressed well...enough. Heck I wasn't in YSL on Madison (and frankly have never been on the receiving end of attitude there, in fact, I have never had anything but great service.)

Back to Cream...the clothes were nice, the store a little beige, shiny and sterile. They do, however, have one of the most extensive collections of Ports 1961 (I love the Fall '08 collection) I have seen carried in a boutique. There were also some great deals on clearance summer items while I was there. Would I go back...sure. I love a good sale and for that, I can put up with a little 'tude.

Designer labels include; Ports 1961, Balmain, Thomas Wylde, Rozea Nichols, Alessandro dell' Acqua, Erickson Beamon, Anna Sui, Binetti, Adam, Graham & Spencer, Malene Birger and Alice & Trixie.

I would have tried to get more pictures, but I was afraid I would be found out.

Hanely...High Tails It

So my plan was to surprise you all with another review since I have been seemingly keeping summer hours. What can I say? Who really wants to explore stores in Manhattan in the summer? Better question...who really wants to man a store during the summer in Manhattan? However, the joke was on me. For at 3pm today which happens to be Friday I showed up at Hanley at 201 E 74th Street...and it was closed. There was no 'be back in five minutes' sign, no 'gone fishing' Post-It, not even a summer hour listing. Just a locked door and my breathing on the window. My dog and trusty partner Nigel and I were left scratching our heads (him with his back paw). What's going on?

So this clearly isn't a review. I will have to save that for another day when Hanley decides to open it's doors to customers again...if ever. I found the whole experience odd. Especially in such a crowded neck of the Upper East Side woods. According to her site the store sells Nicole Hanely's eponymous line and was created out of a desire to fill the gaps she identified in her own wardrobe. What those holes are I couldn't tell you...for I guess I will have to wait and see it another time.

Hopefully designer/owner Nicole Hanley is enjoying her weekend in the Hamptons. At least it's good to know I'm not the only one working summer hours.

How I Fell For Calypso Christiane Celle

OK, I know this store is a national chain of boutiques (26 to be exact), but come summer I can't help it. I'm drawn in like a sea nymph to water. In fact, shopping at Calypso Christiane Celle at 935 Madison Ave. and 815 Madison Ave. on the Upper East Side makes me want to take a vacation to the Vineyard, Cape or Hamptons...straight away. Not to mention, Mimosa Eau de Parfum by Calypso Christiane Celle is my favorite summer scent. For some reason, I never venture into the store during the winter months.It just doesn't seem right, but that's me.

Since 1995 Calypso Christiane Celle has been selling beachwear in big cities and translating it into tropical chic. Founder Christiane Celle grew up on the French Riviera, living in St. Barth's (where she originally started the business), and currently lives with her family in the Hamptons and New York City which is apparent as soon as you enter a store.

I would venture to guess the store is 75% private label clothing and shoes. The remaining brands sold include; Hudson jeans, Marika Charles, Olivia Harris bags, Ginett jewelry and bags, Virginia Johnson, Colin Taca St. Barth, Polder, Jack Rogers sandals & Nili Lotan.

Calypso Christiane Celle recently sold it's majority share to Solera Capital LLC whose plans are to grow the company ten-fold. So expect a store at a mall near you soon. I'd suggest shopping there before it's ruined.

Piece by Piece, Item by Item

Sometimes I interview the stores I review and sometimes I chose to go incognito. It depends if the mood strikes me or if I think the store has a story to tell, I love the clothes, I am greeted warmly....what have you. Sometimes however, I don't want to announce why I am there if I truly get a weird vibe or do not like the store's selection. I take my reviews on a case by case basis. While I try to find something positive to say about every store, sometimes my experience does not warrant it. Such is the case with ITEM.

ITEM at 1597 Second Ave. is another little boutique I have passed a hundred times but have only ventured into twice. I recently read in Page Six Magazine that it's favorite shopping haunt for Yankee's wives, which may explain why I think it's a little flashy for my tastes. However, I had hoped that upon visiting again (time two) this past week, I wouldn't be approached (or ignored) yet again by a snobby sales person. Hmm, I was.

Rather surprising because from the outside this boutique hardly looks high-end. In fact, it looks a little run-down. I guess I expect attitude from a chic boutique on say Madison or Lexington, but on Second Avenue? Not so much.

So here's the rub....if Roberto Cavalli, brightly colored togs and loud gold jewelry are your thing, you might just love Item. Even though I truly like some of the designers I found at ITEM, I don't know if they were pieces I would have chosen. Then again, there's a lid for every pot. Upon my visit, I saw brands like; Just Cavalli (a lot of Just Cavalli), Laundry, Velvet, Robert Rodriguez, denim by Citizens of Humanity, Paige Premium Denim and True Religion and Kooba handbags. There were some pretty bikinis for last minute shopping before hitting the beach, however.

Oh and while the window claimed to be having 'the biggest sale' I saw very little marked down. Trust me, I was looking.

Two Blondes Boutique...The Bergdorf Look For Less

I had peaked in the window of this cozy boutique several times on my way to the gym, but it wasn't until last week I passed by while it was open. I finally found my opportunity to sneak inside. Luckily for me, Two Blondes Boutique is close to my home which will come in handy for my last-minute fashion emergencies ("I have nothing to wear!").

Located at 446 East 78th Street (between 1st Ave. and York Ave.), Two Blondes Boutique is owned and operated by Amy DiFrisco. She named the store in memory of her mother who was her fashion and creative inspiration and obviously...blonde. DiFrisco spent ten years as a personal shopper at Bergdorf Goodman and then as a fashion stylist on her own for five before the opportunity to open her own store arose. She jumped on it. What she doesn't carry in the store (shoes, handbags, black-tie gowns, etc.) she will go into the field and find for her clients.

This two-year old charming boutique may be tiny, but it's jammed with casual-wear brands generally unheard of which is a welcome change from the other stores in the area. When asked what she looks for in her inventory she told me fabrication and cut and then price-point. "Many of my customers are intimidated by Bergdorf's and want that same high-style, but with an urban edge...at an accessible price point." Brands include: Billy Blues, Identify, Charlotte Tantola, Lilla P, Walter, Anac, Lapis and Allen Allen.

Not to be missed is the replicated estate jewelry collection which is handmade in
Paris created specifically for DiFrisco. Be sure to check out the charm bracelets and necklaces which are surprisingly affordable. Come to think of it, most everything in the store is priced to prevent sticker shock....refreshing on the Upper East Side.

I walked out with a dress...don't tell my husband. It's a work hazard. I can assure you I will be back to replenish my wardrobe...besides, just chatting with the owner is a treat.

Linda's Bra Salon: Serious About Bras

This should have been my first blog review for Upper East Side Fashioniste. Let's face it, every fashionista worth her name knows clothes don't fit properly if your undergarments aren't just right. OK, maybe you didn't know that, but you should. You might have already seen Linda's Bra Salon (828 Lexington Ave.) and like me not realized it. This intimate shop has been featured on Tim Gunn's Guide to Style (twice) and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy (since then, men have been calling to make appointments for their wives!).

For more than 20 years, Linda Becker and her expert team of bra-fitters have been on a personal mission to see every woman is wearing the right size bra. Linda was formally trained by the American Cancer Society to fit women for bras and prosthesis. She opened her first store in Philadelphia because she realized practically every woman was wearing the wrong bra size. Her petite Upper East Side boutique is literally packed floor to ceiling with every kind of bra imaginable in sizes 30AA to 48J (I even saw a 34J). The fifty-plus brands include Chantelle, Simone Perele, Wacoal,Goddess, Le Mystere, Huit, Princess Tam-Tam and Elle Macpherson.

Every bra-fitter must attend Linda's 'bra school' for three to six months before she
is allowed to start fitting. Linda prides herself on her repeat customer base. Your size and styles are kept on file for easy reference. Mind you, every time you go, you should get re-measured just in case. I hate to admit, it had been almost a year since I had been measured. My fitting at Linda's thankfully confirmed I have remained the same size. I actually enjoyed trying on the several sizes my fitter Kara brought me. (I can't believe I actually said that.) She could not have been nicer or more knowledgeable.

Linda's also carries bathing suits in cup sizes starting at DD, nursing bras, athletic bras, bridal longlines and post-surgical bras. The boutique also has every accessory and problem solver imaginable.

Appointments are recommended, but not necessary. However, since the store is so small it can literally be 'busting at the seems'...pun intended.

Here are some of Linda's bra tips:

Every women should have at least 3 everyday bras which should be rotated.
The average lifespan of a bra is 6-9 months.
You should be fitted about twice a year. As our weight fluctuates, so does our bra size.
Don't wear the same bra more than twice in a row. Give the elastic time to rest.
Never put bras in the dryer.
If you wear molded cup bras, stack them in your drawer. Inverting the cups into each other destroys the fibers and shortens it's life.
When traveling, stuff your panties into the cups so they retain their shape.

Linda's has a new loyal customer. Now I don't think I can go anywhere else.

Michael's...A Second-Hand Story

About a month ago a superbly dressed friend introduced me to Michael's, The Consignment Shop for Women at 1041 Madison Ave. I have been back several times since in search of buried treasure. Let me explain, I sell my designer cast-offs on Ebay and have even taken them to consignment shops in the past, but I normally don't shop consignment. I have this thing about used shoes. However, Michael's has changed my mind. For one, there are styles that are actually current. Two, the clothes are well-cleaned. Three, plenty of clothing and shoes have never been worn and still have their original tags (like the Miu Miu sandals I scored).

Michael's, is a favorite among New York's rich and famous (and not so rich and famous) and has been since 1954. They specialize in high-end, mint-condition, current designer clothing, furs, fine and costume jewelry, handbags, belts, shoes, sunglasses, and other accessories.

On my most recent visit to this two-floor designer wonderland, there was a rack dedicated to Chanel and Hermes and apparel by Chloe, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Armani, YSL, Prada, Valentino, Marc Jacobs...you name it. The shoe shelf downstairs was filled with Prada, Chanel, Christian Louboutins and Manolos (the upstairs shoe wall is filled with the next tier of designer shoes). If you are lucky you can score an Hermes Birken or Chanel bag, but I don't think these last long. There are plenty of Marc Jacobs, Jimmy Choo, Gucci, etc. for the rest of us too. There is also an onsite Bridal Salon, should the need arise.

Founded by Michael Kosof, he believed that every woman can—and should—look like a million without spending a million. Well, thank him for that! Amen.

Looking to take some of your designer cast-offs for consignment? Michael’s is very picky (thankfully) and will only accept consignments with designer labels, no less than two years old unless it's Pucci or Chanel. However, Michael's is not a vintage store and only accepts very high demand items. I personally heard them reject half the designer duds a woman brought in, much to her surprise.

Parker Takes on Manhattan

Hailing from Chicago and being here less than a year...I am always finding stores I had not idea existed. It's one of the highlights of my new adventure. I was on my way down Madison Ave. on the way home from an appointment last week and noticed a store I had never seen before. Tucked between my favorite designer stores like Yves Saint Laurent, Ralph Lauren, Carolina Herrera and Christian Louboutin is a small and inviting boutique named Parker (1021 Madison Ave.)

Owned and operated by designer Andrew Parker, this unique boutique sells not only his own label, but those of designers he has personal relationships with. The store itself is jam packed with apparel, books, bags and fabulous furniture. It's all for sale. What a breath of fresh air for this some what stodgy (but you have to love it) neighborhood.

Labels include: Parker, The Wrights, Douglas Hannant, Beirn, M Siamo and Vivia shoes. There are also some amazing furs that were on clearance when I visited. Yes, the items are pricey, but no more than other boutiques in the neighborhood.

The National Jean Company. Don't Let the Name Fool You

After finishing brunch at Atlantic Grill with my friend Annette last Saturday, we found ourselves walking into The National Jean Company just a block down Third Avenue. We were in the mood to shop. So we thought.

Jeans are only part of the equation at this store located at 1375 Third Ave (between 78th and 79th Sts.). This Upper East Side denim mecca offers an amazing selection of women's pairs from brands like True Religion, Hudson, Joe's, Raven, Paige Premium Denim, Citizen's, J Brand, People's Revolution, Paper Denim & Cloth, Development, 525, Goldsign and Seven For All Mankind. There are more, but you get the idea.

However, when you enter the brightly lit store (after you make your way past the everywhere lately. You know the ones...Robert Rodriguez, Karen Zambos, Boulee, Alisha Levine, Tucker Rory Beca, Tibi, Tucker, Nieves Lavi, Jamison, Charlotte Ronson, Bread & Butter, Velvet... The store is just busting out with clothes. Too many clothes for the space actually. It looks as messy as my bedroom at 8pm on a Saturday night. Clearly, this store is trying to be all things to all people and the WILL get you to spend money, if it kills them!

I felt a little too old to be in the store, but it wouldn't stop me from a jeans run, should the need arise. Close after all...is close.

Montmartre...The Right Bank Right Here in NYC

I know, I know. I have not traveled far, but why should I? At some point I have to cover the myriad of stores and boutiques the Upper East Side has to offer. Montmartre (named after a hill in Paris which was at onetime an artist's mecca) is located at 1157 Madison Ave. (between 85th & 86th).

This boutique is the perfect option if you are looking for a last-minute girlie girl frock. Skewed a little more towards the contemporary market, it still satisfies a need for comparatively affordable duds without having to head downtown. Frankly, I found it very similar to Intermix, but with less edge. It's safe. I always think that when I see labels like Rebecca Taylor and Nanette Lepore as soon as I walk through the door.

There are dresses topping out at about $600 from designers like: Rebecca Taylor, Nanette Lepore, Bell, Hoss, Milly, Madison Marcus, Walter, Binetti, Tracy Reese and Montmartre's own private label. I also found jeans mostly by Seven for All Mankind and J. Brand. If it's a work type ensemble you are in search of, never fear, there is plenty Trina Turk and Theory. If it's accessories you're after the jewelry, belt & handbag selection is impressive and affordable. If you need a last minute cocktail ring or a pair Hanky Panky thongs before your hot date Saturday night...this just might be your place!
