A documentary film screening and community discussion for all parents in UCFSD

The film “Race to Nowhere” sheds light on the high stakes and high pressure culture that is a part of many children’s lives at schools throughout the country. In the words of the film maker, Vicki Abeles, it is a “call to mobilize families, educators, and policy makers to challenge current assumptions on how best to prepare the youth of America to become healthy, bright, contributing and leading citizens.” “Race to Nowhere” has become a national grassroots phenomenon. Over 600,000 people have attended more than 2,000 screenings in all 50 states and 20 countries.

Following the 85-min. film, we will give parents the opportunity to share their thoughts with others in the audience as well as with a panel of professionals including:

AP Exam Registration Now to Mon, Mar 5

Each AP course will have its own registration form, i.e., a student taking AP US History and AP Calculus AB must complete two separate forms. AP teachers will distribute the forms to students in their respective classes on Tuesday, February 21st. Students are required to complete a form for each AP exam and return the form(s) with payment to Mrs. Vaughn in the Counseling Center. The fee is $87.00 per exam. Students may write one check to cover all exam fees if they are taking more than one exam. We are only accepting payment in the form of checks. Please make checks payable to “UHS Activities”. Registration forms will not be accepted without payment.

For more than twenty-five years, The Phantom of the Opera has captivated audiences in London and on Broadway. Now you can see this mesmerizing production on the Unionville High School stage as our talented young actors bring this poignant love story to life.

The setting is the dazzling Paris Opera House. But all is not well. Lurking in the bowels of the Opera House is a malign and disfigured “Phantom” who obtrudes himself into the life of the new owners, the cast and, especially, the lovely young soprano Christine. Watching her with ambition, obsession, and devotion, the Phantom machinates to have Christine replace the diva, Carlotta. Christine performs to acclaim, and is recognized by her childhood friend, Raoul, who falls in love with her. Christine reciprocates his love to the disgust and despair of the Phantom who vows to make her pay for her betrayal. Will the Phantom destroy both his beloved Opera House and Christine in his quest for revenge? Soaring music, haunting lyrics and swashbuckling action accompany the plot as it unfolds to its climactic finish.
