This is the true joy of life, the being used up for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; being a force of nature instead of a feverish, selfish little clod of ailments and grievances, complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.

I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the community, and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. Life is no 'brief candle' to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for a moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.

Hello everyone,

There are lots of activities and events going on at Unity this week:

FRIDAY - OPEN MIC 4 KIDS! AT 6:30PM. PERFORMERS SIGN UP AT 6PM. This event is for kid performers from the ages of 5-15. No admission. Everyone is welcome. Bring your parents, grandparents, and friends.

SATURDAY - QUIET DAY RETREAT WITH MEGAN LYON FROM 10AM-4:30PM. Join us for a wonderful relaxing day of mostly silence. The day begins and ends with a community gathering with silence during the rest of the day. You can walk the Carriage Trail, journal, meditate, pray, etc. A light lunch is provided. Donation basis - love offerings are accepted.

SUNDAY - BOOK STUDY GROUP AT 10AM. This month's book is "The Five Principles". Copies are available in the UKV bookstore.

SUNDAY CHURCH SERVICE AT 11AM - SKY WILL BE SPEAKING ON NEW MEMBER SUNDAY. We welcome all our new members with a ceremony and a pot luck lunch afterwards. Musicians this week are Ron Sowell, Jack Kennedy, and Ryan Kennedy.

SUNDAY AFTER CHURCH - POT LUCK LUNCH TO WELCOME OUR NEW MEMBERS. Please feel free to bring food to share if you wish.

ALSO ON SUNDAY - Please remember to bring any food items for the Mountaineer Food Bank for Isaac's Eagle Scout project. Please help feed the hungry in our area.

WED, MARCH 27TH - BOARD MEETING AT 6PM.

OTHER NEWS

Coupon books for sale - $20 each for services and restaurants in the Charleston area. Please take a book and leave the money in the large envelope behind the books.

Walk MS - Unity will have a team walking in the MS Walk on Saturday, April 13th at 10am at the Columbia Gas Building. Registration forms are on the white bench outside of the church office.

Open Stage 4 Kids For Kid performers, ages 5 - 15

Kid performers from ages 5-15 bring whatever talent you would like to share: playing an instrument, singing, dancing, telling a joke, showing a piece of artwork, magic, or just talking into a microphone. Silly songs are welcome!

Christian Science and Healing

One of the foundation books in Unity is Lessons in Truth by Emile Cady. Cady was a Christ Science practitioner. Her thoughts were so close to the developing Unity thoughts that the Filmores adopted her writings.

We have in Charleston on Sundat March 24 an opportunity to hear from a well known CS healing practitioner.

Ginny Luedeman is now an international speaker and

practitioner and teacher of Christian Science healing.

But back in the '60s, she was a hard rock singer

belonging to the Morning Glory group, which played in

concert with The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Jimi

Hendrix, The Rolling Stones and other popular groups.

An LSD overdose brought her to the study of Science

and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker

Eddy. The study of this book in conjunction with The Bible taught her a system of Christian healing called

Christian Science. She began a spiritual journey which has brought wonderful healing and joy.

We have a few neat things going on this week that I wanted to make sure you knew about so you could join in.

This Sunday - A Lesson by Ron Sowell

First, this Sunday is opposite day at Unity. Ron Sowell will be giving the lesson, and I will be doing the music (count on some Van Morrison!). If you have never heard Ron speak, this will be a real treat. Ron is a long time Unity guy and a profound student of Life and Love. He usually blows me away with his insights, and I know of few people who walk their talk with as much integrity, humility, and generosity as Ron. This will be a Sunday not to miss!

Positive Thoughts Email List Opt-In

Second, today launches a new way for us to be connected via a Positive Thought blog. Every other day or so, I will be sending out a sentence or two from the Spiritual Book of the Month. This way if you don't have time to read the whole book, you can still participate in the thoughts and the discussions. I will send these out to everyone one for the first few times, but you must "opt-in" if you want to keep getting them. And as always you can unsubscribe whenever you like!

To opt in is easy, just update your profile and click the box next to Positive Thoughts. Click here to go to your profile page.

New Members Sunday!

Twice a year we do a new member Sunday, and our next one is on Palm Sunday, March 24. Folks interested in exploring more about the idea of membership or just finding out more about Unity are encouraged to participate in this month's Intro to Unity book study: "The Five Principles" by Ellen Debenport. We have classes on Sunday's at 10 and discussions on Sundays at 12:30. I will also be hosting an evening class on Wed March 13 at 5:30.

So sorry but I left several future events on the previous Unity events email.

Sunday, March 17th - Kids' Bowling Party from 1-2:30pm. Lane rental, room rental, and shoes will be provided by the church. A wonderful way for our UKV kids to spend St. Patrick's Day.

Saturday, April 13th - Unity has a team walking the MS Walk. There is a 1 mile or 3 mile walk if you would like to participate, please let me know.
