After unveiling “Devil’s Work” last December to much blog hype, Swedish trio Miike Snow return with another track taken off their forthcoming album Happy To You.

“Paddling Out” is a stuttering uptempo piece of pop goodness that clearly shows a nice evolution for the band. Maybe it’s the syncopated piano or maybe the frenzied sampled beats, but in any case there’s something utterly addictive about this new song… Keep’em coming!

On the heels of their high-octane debut single “True Romance”, London-based indie outfit Citizens! move forward on their to reclaim pop music with new single “Reptile”. Now signed to Parisian label Kitsuné, the band will release the song on February 13th and the video, directed by Thibault Dumoulin, is already going viral on the net!

And if you think they sound a lot like Franz Ferdinand, you’d be right — as it turns out Citizens!’s debut album, due out later this year, will be produced by none other than Alex Kapranos, aka Franz Ferdinand’s frontman.

Gothenburg-based indie pop act Alpaca Sports is really the solo project of Andreas Jonsson, a talented young artist who makes playful pop music with jangly guitars and super catchy hooks. Recorded, mixed and produced by Kalle von Hall, his double A-side debut single “Just For Fun/I’ll Never Win” will be released as a very limited 7″ (300 copies) via Luxury/Dufflecoat on March 22.

Based in Philadelphia, Icebird is the result of a collaboration between renowned beatmaker Rjd2 and singer-songwriter Aaron Livingston. The pair released their debut album The Abandoned Lullaby in October 2011 on Rjd2′s own label Electrical Connections.

The project was born after Livingston contributed vocals on a track off Rjd2′s previous album The Colossus. The two artists totally clicked and decided to write more songs together, exploring different influences and building bridges between genres. From the first beats to the last notes, The Abandoned Lullaby runs the gamut of emotions, with producer and singer each bringing their distinct touch while staying in synch throughout.

To start the year nicely, Belgian rising star of Nu Disco The Magician aka Stephen Fasano, formerly one half of Aeroplane, has shared a whole bunch of remixes through his SoundCloud. You can stream them all there and download six of them straight to your hard drive!

The Magician dug into his eclectic bag of tricks to put together a devilishly catchy compilation, featuring some of his own tracks (remixed by Plastic Plates or Erkka), some collabs and many remixes he produced for the likes of The Aikiu, Wolf Gang, Tyson, Beni, Yuksek and Lykke Li.

Boston-based trio Carousel return with a new single, the deliciously upbeat “Know It’s Right”. Not unlike Bag Raiders or Verona, Carousel pack enough shiny swirling synths and sun-kissed layered vocals into their sound to effortlessly brighten up even the coldest of your mid-winter days.

For your information, the members of Carousel met in Boston while attending Berklee College of Music and this is where they began producing/playing music together. Their easy on the ear, radio-friendly sound combines the drive of electro with the melodic sensibilities of indie pop.

Continue reading »]]> Wildbirds & Peacedrums are a contemporary experimental two piece hailing from Sweden consisting of singer Mariam Wallentin and drummer Andreas Werliin. Their “instruments” consist of her powerful vocals and his unorthodox juxtaposition of percussion and drums, resulting in a powerful, innovative sound.

The track below is taken off the duo’s critically acclaimed fourth album Rivers. It was remixed by Fodral, who masterfully duplicated the steel drums intro and added layers of cosmic synths to enhance Wallentin’s vocals.

Rock duo The Black Keys recently released their eighth studio album, and arguably best album to date, El Camino, via Nonesuch Records. Helmed by guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney, The Black Keys find inspiration in Mississippi blues classics and mid-1960s psychedelic rock.

Recorded in Nashville, El Camino was co-produced and co-written by Danger Mouse, who also collaborated with the band on previous album Brothers. This album is more straightforward and uptempo than its predecessor, packing powerful riffs and nice grooves in its 11 tracks. No slow jams or power ballads here, just 38 minutes of unadulterated rock energy!

El Camino makes for a great listen in the comfort of your home but it will make for an even better live show. Propelled by pouding drums and bouncy riffs, every track is its own little energy ball and will no doubt incite frenetic dancing.
