In this period of economic austerity and with changes in the global funding environment, the availability of up-to-date information about funding commitments, gaps in giving, and trends in philanthropy remains key to sustaining and increasing global efforts towards eradicating HIV/AIDS.

U.S. Philanthropic support to address HIV/AIDS in 2009
<expirydate />
After years of increases, funding for HIV/AIDS from U.S.-based philanthropies was 5% lower in 2009 compared to 2008, with disbursements falling from $618 million to $585 million (a decrease of $33 million). This is the first year since FCAA began tracking disbursements (in 2005) that funding decreased. Commitments (funding budgeted to be spent in a given year but not necessarily disbursed in that year) also decreased, dropping by 12% between 2008 and 2009.

Thematic Segment: Background document
<expirydate />
27th Meeting of the UNAIDS Programme Coordinating Board, 6-8 December 2010

UNAIDS Expanded Business Case: Enhancing Social Protection
<expirydate />
UNAIDS Expanded Business Case: Enhancing Social Protection

The AIDS Response and MDG: Rwanda Case Study
<expirydate />
This Case Study on Rwanda has been commissioned by UNAIDS in preparation for the UN Summit on MDGs in September 2010. It aims to investigate the linkages between investments in the AIDS response (MDG 6) and progress towards other MDGs, and vice-versa. It has been agreed that the study will focus on MDG 4 (child mortality) and MDG 5 (maternal health) but will also address violence against women under MDG 3 and touch on linkages to MDG 1 and health systems strengthening (HSS).

AIDS plus MDGs: synergies that serve people
<expirydate />
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) reflect the global resolve to achieve unprecedented, radical progress across a broad range of health and international development priorities. The MDGs were endorsed by the global community at the turn of the century. Since then, substantial gains have been made towards many of them.2 Progress has been uneven, however, with major achievements in some countries and regions offset by inadequate progress elsewhere, and with significant inequalities within countries as to who benefits. The global development and economic context in which these goals were agreed has also shifted considerably, creating new challenges and opportunities—and calls for new solutions—in the campaign to achieve the MDGs.

Supporting community based responses to AIDS, TB and malaria: A guidance tool for including Community Systems Strengthening in Global Fund proposals
<expirydate />
Building upon the information provided in the Global Fund’s CSS Framework, this document seeks to increase understanding about the benefits CSS can bring at the national, district and local levels, and to support advocacy and technical support efforts around CSS. It provides practical guidance on developing CSS activities for Global Fund proposals, advocating for the inclusion of CSS in national and regional proposals, as well as suggesting ways to more effectively implementing CSS activities if the proposal is approved.

UNAIDS Agenda for Accelerated Country Action for Women Girls Gender Equality and HIV.doc
<expirydate />
The Agenda for Accelerated Country Action for Women, Girls, Gender Equality and HIV 2010–2014 (Operational Plan) supports the implementation of the UNAIDS Action Framework: Addressing Women, Girls, Gender Equality and HIV.1 The Action Framework was developed in response to the pressing need to address the persistent gender inequalities and human rights violations that put women and girls at a greater risk of HIV, and increase their vulnerability. These factors also threaten the gains that have been made in preventing HIV transmission and in increasing access to antiretroviral therapy. The UNAIDS Action Framework focuses on action in three areas, outlined below, in which UNAIDS2 and UNIFEM can make specific and unique contributions.
