Change Schlage Encode door handing right to left

Schlage Encode is a great wifi lock that allows you to share virtual keys, assign pin codes or use a fall back physical key.

I purchased one from Amazon Australia and received one from Amazon US. In US, the doors have the hinges on the left side as oppose to the right side hence the door locks are on the other side. When I received the lock from from Amazon and installed it, it didn't work as the lock wanted to turn the other way to lock. Amazon customer support were not helpful and offered a return. Fortunately I reached out to Schlage who replied rather belatedly but replied with knowledge that all I needed to do was to factory reset the lock and let it auto detect the handling by itself! Amazingly easy, pity it wasn't mentioned in the manuals that factory reset could change the handling.

Running Strapi on AWS Elastic Beanstalk

Strapi is a NodeJS based open source CMS. At present it is in active development and in alpha and probably not something you would run in production. Having been experimenting with this, whilst there are articles documenting docker setups, Elastic beanstalk was something I was really familiar with and would usually beable to setup a CI pipeline to Elastic beanstalk in a few mins so I went down this rabbit hole...

"Cannot start SSH Tunnel error" on MySQL workbench OSX

Recently upgraded from OSX High Sierra to Mojave and MySQL workbench refused to work properly since especially when trying to connect to SSH servers via a SSH tunnel. It just kept complaining of the error Cannot start SSH Tunnel

Tried reinstalling MySQL workbench without any luck and Google wasn't of much help as well.

b2evolution upgrade 500 errors

Every time I try to upgrade this b2evolution blog I always encounter some issue with the auto upgrade which should otherwise be painless.

Often running through each of the upgrader tool carefully, I usually end up with some error or another.

500 server errors are the most annoying without much clues in the logs.

Unofficial Swann Security Camera to OEM Camera database

Swann Security DVRs and Camera are horrible because they don't get the updates required to maintain a decent product line.

They provide a fragmented list of DVRs with supported cameras at swann-camera-compatibility.pdf (accurate as of Feb 2018).

It turns out that their cameras are rebranded hikvision cameras which cost a fraction of the Swan camera equivalent.

Well, seems like its a scam token, I decided to blog about this as there is little to no information about this being a scam.

It all started when I started researching the interesting world of Initial Coin Offering (ICOs) and stumbled on this BitAir which seems like an interesting idea at first.
