    <title>George Lensing wins Thomas Jefferson Award</title>

    <description>&lt;p&gt;&lt;img src="http://english.unc.edu/graphics/lensing.jpg" alt="George Lensing receives Thomas Jefferson Award from Chancellor Holden Thorp" width="200" height="265" style="float: right;" /&gt;On September 4, 2009, Chancellor Holden Thorp presented &lt;a href="http://englishcomplit.unc.edu/ecl_dev/faculty/lensingg.html"&gt;Professor George Lensing&lt;/a&gt; with the Thomas Jefferson Award, the highest honor awarded to a faculty member by the UNC faculty. Professor Lensing's &lt;a href="http://www.unc.edu/faculty/faccoun/honorary/JeffersonAward/tj2009lensingcitation.shtml"&gt;citation for excellence&lt;/a&gt; praises his  "intellectual curiosity and acumen, facility with the written and spoken word, exemplary public service, and gracious hospitality," and recognizes his outstanding teaching, scholarship, and service. Professor Lensing specializes in twentieth-century British and American literature, and his recent work includes &lt;em&gt;Wallace Stevens and the Seasons&lt;/em&gt; (2001) as well as articles on Wallace Stevens, Elizabeth Bishop, and others.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/unc/EKrI/~4/iaZXViBO0w8" height="1" width="1"/&gt;</description>

    <title>Christopher Armitage wins Award for Excellence in Teaching</title>

    <title>Tyler Curtain wins Sitterson Teaching Award</title>

    <description>&lt;p&gt;Tyler Curtain, associate professor in the&lt;br /&gt;
department of English and Comparative Literature, received the J.&lt;br /&gt;
Carlyle Sitterson Freshman Teaching Award, which goes to a faculty&lt;br /&gt;
member teaching first-year students.  The award was created in 1998 by&lt;br /&gt;
the family of the late J. Carlyle Sitterson to recognize excellence in&lt;br /&gt;
freshman teaching by a tenured or tenure-track faculty member in the&lt;br /&gt;
