UNC Asheville Wins Two National Marketing Awards

UNC Asheville has earned two national awards presented by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), an international professional association for colleges and universities.

The Communication and Marketing Department received the CASE, Circle of Excellence Silver Award for its integrated communication and branding program “Seriously Creative.” A Bronze Award in the category of in-house print publications was presented to UNC Asheville for the Admissions Viewbook.

The following joint statement was issued today in Raleigh, N.C., by police chiefs of all UNC system campuses.

“The police chiefs of the 17 UNC campuses oppose the provision of House Bill 937 that would allow handguns on our campuses. We believe passage of this bill would increase the risk to the safety of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

Studies show that university campuses are consistently safer and experience significantly less crime than surrounding communities.

With Grant Approval, Key Section of Reed Creek Greenway Work to Begin this Fall

Plans to complete Phase III of the Reed Creek Greenway through property owned by the UNC Asheville Foundation on Broadway Avenue are one step closer to implementation. Recently, the UNC Asheville Foundation received approval of its 2013 Federal Recreational Trails Program grant of $200,000 administered by the North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation. The N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources has approved the grant and once other environmental, archeological and regulatory reviews are completed, the grant can be awarded.

Nikki Giovanni, the renowned poet, activist and educator, will deliver the commencement address and receive an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree when UNC Asheville holds its May 2013 Commencement. Warren Haynes, the rock guitarist, singer, songwriter, and creator of Asheville's annual Christmas Jam, also will receive an honorary degree. The ceremony begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 11.
