One of the most important success factor in the shooting 'Human Interest" is the photographer's ability to break the ice and blend with environment to be photograph.To break the ice,I always come into their midst in order to see it and talk I ask many relevant questions.'Human Interest" is live and it no less important to make many friends.

My human interest story is about Encik Sepawi.In the year 2009 working as a gardener.cleaner and bush cutter who come to work place with his rusty old bicycle and simply faded white t-shirt and same old pant almost everyday.As you can see from the picture above Encik Sepawi is now a very successful weekend street vendor .According to him all his stock such as cake are prepare by his wife and children.I transport all my good with my new Van .My customers mostly tourist from West Malaysia & Sabah who prefer to buy Sarawak Cake Lapis.
I love to hear successful stories of the local people like Sepawi,there are motivating when we hear of other people's hard work paying off.When we share these successful stories others can also learn from them.

Shoot in Kuching.

So my obsession with street will continue, as it is an obsession, you have to be totally consumed by it, for it is a genre all by itself, and hopefully I can continue to share my passion and views of the world as I see it, and also share the way in which I do what I do with others.

So the danger of street photography…..Someone takes offence to you having taken their picture….Well everything has its hazards, and this is street photography’s,

I never ask to take an image, or influence the events happening around me, it either happens or it doesn’t, I either capture it or I don’t, if I do great, if not…Well that’s the game that is street photography, the image that got away, the image that is left out there to be caught another day, when the time is right, it drives me to go out, and keep looking.

So my style…..I’m not sure I could label it, I just try to capture what I see, and how I see it, the uniqueness of people, and what they do, the individuality, the strangeness, the emotion, the scenes we create by our mere interaction with those we know, those we don’t, and the inanimate objects around us day to day. I don’t really follow or try to emulate the greats of yesterday or the greats of today, my style is my style,

Kuching City- Urban Street Style.

I may not know them, but the most stylish people in the world are the people that no one knows. I always say like, we're not the best dressed, but there are so many people out there that can do it just as good and even better.

It’s not street style in the genuine sense. I shoot people doing everyday things, stepping out of the grocery store, walking to work, out for lunch, etc.

There are a wide array of reasons that people love big size hats. If you have a big head, you may need a large hat to fit it. Some people, however, just like the style of having a big hat, as they can be great fashion statements. They can also do a good job protecting you from the sun.That what the above picture tell you ,she wearing hat.What is street photography for me?
It’s all about a feeling and flavour, the peculiarity of its corners and narrow streets.meet people with style.

A moment. Something unique that catches my eye. Style is important, but more so a personality that shines through. I’m actually somewhat annoyed by the whole ‘fashion show’ I don't shoot modelling either .

I like to photograph people the way they are, beautiful but also human and perfectly imperfect. I think streets have an identity to show as well… the way light crosses the streets, the walls and ground, how streets welcome people and host them, how that street portrays and shows the identity of the city itself.

I found actual street style. So candid, these people don’t even know they’ve been spotted. I look for the atmosphere.This people just happen to be in the frame.

I took all the below shot in the old part of Kuching City.The open air market ,India Street and the surrounding area.It' a usual thing for me to be up at wee hours just to photograph the street.By the way I love early morning scene and if good weather soon after sunrise I like the long shadows cast across the street and also the early morning atmosphere and the culture of local people.

Most street cleaning happens over night and the early morning often finds city scenes with less litter to clutter your shots.

Of course you might want people in some of your shots –

in the wee hours of the morning there’s a whole different group of people wandering the streets can give your shots a whole new focal point.

Shots around dawn have less likelihood of being cluttered by people. It’s amazing who lonely a city can look if you’re able to get a people free shot.

Water-pump-powered boat races are now a craze at many rural kampong along Sarawak River and also at longhouse along Rajang River attracting not only the young but also people in their 60s.

The boat costs RM300, the water pump costs another RM300 and the propeller RM10. Together with other fittings and accessories such as a steering wheel, helmet, life jacket and decorations, the boat will cost between RM800 to RM1,000,” Rider said.

Boats were made of plywood and other woods such as gerunggang, medang or engkabang obtained from the nearby jungleThe kampung folk say the dry weight (minus water-pump engine) of a single boat in the water pump engine category is about 13kg to 14kg.

Local rider say handling a water pump racing boat in a proper competition is ‘so much safer’ than taking part especially in illegal motorbike racing.
“This is because getting ditched into the water is less dangerous than landing on a hard surface —like a road, for instance, during a motorcycle race. Besides, it is not illegal to race a boat in the river.”
BUT during the recent" Kuching City Local Council water festival " this powerboat competition was cancelled by the organizer because they say It's dangerous .

Like most other forms of photography, shooting Street Style takes time, practice, and a certain level of technical know-how to get really great looking photos. Personally, I’m still something of a novice at it myself,I'm still in learning process.

Or at least as much as you can. If you really want to improve your Street Style pictures, the most important thing you can do is to actually go out and shoot. See which photos you like or don’t like, learn from them, and apply what you’ve learned the next time you’re out shooting. Street Style is all about practice, practice, practice. The point is that eventually, when you edit your photos, you’ll find the ones you do like, get rid of the ones you don’t like, and you’ll start to train your eye towards developing a personal style within the context of Street Style (which, admittedly, has more limitations inherent to it than just about any other style of photography).

Vanishing Sunday Market.

One of the most famous and popular landmarks in Kuching City has to be the Sunday Market.This open air market place located at Jalan Satok.This is most congested,lively and fascinating market place on every weekend.

The Sunday Market started out as a place to buy jungle produce from the farmers from the hinterland of Kuching city, mostly from Bau, Lundu, Padawan and Serian. Farmers from the surrounding area would take buses or hitch rides, and start to congregate at the market as early as Saturday morning, and begin trading at noon time.

The most famous Terubok Masin Sarawak.

Here the city folk have been able to enjoy a wide array of shoes.slipper etc.etc at very competitive prices. The goods are cheap, and a shopping trip to the market will not burn a hole in your pocket.

Many Kuching people have become addicted to visiting the market every weekend. It is an occasion for a family outing, as strolling along the congested street market, and examining the goods on sale has become a very pleasant day out for city folk.

All in all, the Satok Sunday Market is still one of my favourite places in Kuching city. I have heard rumours of the authorities trying to relocate the market elsewhere, but I am sure this would be an unpopular proposition for Kuching folk. Let us face it, we are all lifelong fans of our grand Sunday Market — a regular feature of public life in Kuching city.The will be relocated HERE.

Kuching's regional express bus terminal is located along Jl. Datuk Tawi Sli, also dubbed as "3 and a half miles", located south of the city, just before the Boulevard shopping mall. All long-distance express buses arrive from and leave for major Sarawak cities like Sibu, Bintulu and Miri, as well as Kalimatan Barat, Indonesia.

Regional buses for some towns near Kuching such as Lundu (for the Gunung Gading National Park and Tanjung Datu National Park) and Sri Aman also arrive/depart from here.

Business as usual for many people on 3rd day after Chinese New Year.Perhaps you want to see the photos that I shot yesterday around the old part of Kuching City.

By now I am sure a lot of you are eager to know when is the best day in 2012 for you to start working again after this Dragon Chinese New Year.Well, not for this uncle he say I even work on celebration day.

My boss a Chinese towkey is at home and he ask me to look after the shop say Agus..My boss say it is important for him to start working again on an auspicious day after Chinese New Year, so that his whole year will be a prosperous, smooth-sailing year filled with all the luck and wealth that he need. So if you had a bad year last year, it was probably because you started working on the wrong day after Chinese New Year! So don't make the same mistake again in this new Dragon Year.

Business as usual say auntie ..people will come at last minutes and I don't mind waiting and I work half day to-day.

As for me I don't have any BEST day to start working I do have several so-called GOOD days to work after my break.

Farewell To Wet & Sunday Market At Satok in Kuching.

Satok, situated in the city North of Kuching was once a Malay kampung (village).Sunday Market in Satok become one of the most popular tourist attractions and visited by tourists in and outside Malaysia. Satok Market in Kuching City has to be the most interesting market to-day. First time visitor can easily spent 2-3 hours wondering in the maze of stalls and lost admist the noisy marketplace.

The Satok Weekend Market on Jalan Satok starts on Saturday afternoon when traders bring produce from their farms and continues on till Sunday. There are also many unique ferns and plants, wild honey, wild orchids, traditional herbs (used as medicine) and fruits from the jungles. Handicrafts and ethnic carvings are also available. There are a wide variety of snacks and sometimes snakes in baskets!(Qouted by Tourist )

The Satok market is often listed as a tourist attraction in Kuching, but unless you're a keen photographer it probably won't hold much appeal. The produce is cheap and fresh and the environment interesting to walk around, but it also gets very hot and crowded especially during weekend.

KUCHING: Traders at Satok market are expected to move to Medan Niaga Satok, next to Kubah Ria, in Matang Road in March next year.(March 2012).

The what so call Medan Niaga Satok situated just beside the new Kubah Ria in PetraJaya. would have five main complexes.

About 1,400 traders from the present Sunday market and 280 from Satok Tamu market are expected to operate at the new location.Medan Niaga Satok has 19,000 trading spaces, complete with a water system and a proper rubbish disposal system compared to the one at Satok market.

These new facilities would provide better comfort to the traders in Satok market. Added with modern design and cleaner market waste management system, rest assured that both the traders and customers would find this new market both convenient and appealing.

One of the priorities of this project focuses on cleanliness, be it internally or to its surroundings.

As part of the city’s transformation programme, this complex is a project to help the low income group and with the tourism centre and remember that these new facilities would provide better comfort to the traders in Satok market.

Kota Sentosa is a unique place in Sarawak because the town grew in a linear development pattern. It is situated at the 7th mile from Kuching city and from history it grew from a tiny village that was located along the former railway line from Kuching to Mile 10. It is for this matter that Kota Sentosa's old name was 'Mile 7 bazaar'. It is also conveniently situated at the entrance of the Samarahan Division and next by the Kuching International airport. But what makes the town alive and kicking , indeed thriving is the presence of half a dozen of military-cum- residential complexes that house many battalions and regiments of the Malaysian army and air force. Their presence become the largest employment and business generator for booming Kota Sentosa.

Kota Sentosa,state seats that held by DAP.Currently is under heavy development of modern shop houses.Yesterday I went to Kota Sentosa arm with my old camera Olympus with kit lens.Most people would just dump their older camera and equipments into the used market, and quickly grab that latest released camera that promises better image quality and camera performance.To be honest I still love my E410.

KUCHING: Chief Minister Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud yesterday unveiled Kuching Sentral (Kuching Integrated Regional Bus Terminal), the city’s latest landmark.Earthworks on the fully integrated three-storey regional bus terminal commenced in December last year. The RM55 million project, located on a seven-acre site, at Mile 6 1/2 Penrissen Road, is expected to be completed by the end of 2009. It will be only two minutes from the Kuching International Airport (KIA) and 10 minutes from Kuching City centre.

My experience is 5 or 10 minutes from Kuching Airport & at least 25 to 30 minutes from Kuching City..Our Sarawak Chief Minister say two mins from airport & 10 mins from Kuching City because he can skip the traffic congested due escorted by Police motorcycle & police mobile.......

The opening of Kuching Sentral, a bus terminal located at 6th mile, Jalan Penrissen, a short distance from Kuching Airport and the old Sarawak Government Railway Corridor. The terminal was supposed to open in December 2010 but the projected open date is now March 2012.

The RM100-million Regional Bus Terminal known as Kuching Sentral located at Mile 6, Jalan Penrissen will provide a new dimension for public transport services in the state and expected fully operation on March 2012.Though the project was slightly delayed, the contractor was committed to finishing it.

Strategically located five minutes drive from Kuching International Airport, Kuching Sentral will form a new hub for the transportation industry and will cater for regional express buses travelling on daily routes to Sri Aman, Sarikei, Sibu, Pontinak, Brunei and Sabah.t will be able to accommodate about 12,000 passengers when fully operational.

It is an integrated complex with retail stores, hypermarkets, food court, kiosks, restaurants and international fast food outlets.Public facilities comprise bus bays, car and motorcycles parks, taxi stands, commercial van bays, luggage facilities services, surau, ticketing counters and an air-conditioned waiting area.

Kuching Sentral will be a modern air-conditioned bus terminal with peoples’ comfort in mind but nothing is free in this world so kindly pay your parking ticket here..Thank You.

Nasi minyak is a traditional Malay dish and can be found almost everywhere in Malaysia. In fact, it is so popular that different states have different ways of cooking it. Nasi minyak is a must-have at big celebrations and Malay weddings (a common local joke is that to find out when a Malay friend is getting married, just tease them about when they will be “serving you nasi minyak”)

Malaysia boasts many local gastronomic delights that are unique to each culture. One of the most popular local dishes is nasi minyak (which literally translates to ‘oil rice’).In terms of appearance, nasi minyak is easily distinguished by the light yellow shade of its rice (though sometimes other colours are added using drops of food colouring). As can be guessed from its name, nasi minyak is typically cooked with ghee/oil which causes the rice to develop a rather oily texture. Once cooked, it emits a fragrant smell and a slightly buttery taste which provides a delicious contrast when served with spicier gravies such as curry and sambal. Cashew nuts and raisins can only be mixed with the rice to produce a more delicious flavour

These days, you’ll find a lot of individuals who are usually planning that black-and-white images are outdated. Indeed, these kinds of images look classic as well as out of trend. These types of also give a perception that the occasion that got caught took place a long time ago especially if the audience is of younger generation. Many still don’t recognize that black-and-white images are still quite significantly most desirable.
A Malay wedding is usually performed when either one or both spouses are Malay. Malaysian law defines a Malay person as a Muslim.Malay weddings are grand affairs where the couple is treated as royalty. The traditional wedding ceremony is in two parts. The first part is the akad nikah (marriage contract), which is the legal and religious part of the wedding. The second part is the bersanding (enthronement), which is a family celebration. It is usual for the two parts to be celebrated over two days. However, it is becoming common for there to be a gap between the parts of the wedding, during which the couple are legally married, but saving up for an elaborate bersanding. In cases where the couple have family spread around the world, a number of bersanding may be held in different countries to allow everyone to wish the couple well.

A Malay wedding proper begins with the akad nikah (marriage contract) ceremony. The groom signs the marriage contract and agrees to provide the bride with a mas kahwin (mahar,literally 'marriage gold' in form of money or goods or anything as requested by the bride).It is opposite to dowry where the mas khawin is paid by the bride to the groom. The mas khawin is a symbol to show that the men is willing and are prepared to build a family with the lady he chose to get married to. The contract signing is done before a religious official and is accompanied by prayer.

In relation to wedding photography, black-and-white images might be excellent option. At the affect of the modern day, increasingly more couples highly recommended it far more than the colored pictures. It also became the specialization of some of the most well-known wedding photographers. Research shows that if someone would be shown images in which some are of black and white print out, they’d don’t forget these kinds of even far more. There’s constantly some thing distinctive and remarkable about black-and-white wedding pictures.

The bersanding is to take place the next day and actual wedding day is the Bersanding. This literally means the "sitting together of the bride and bridegroom on the bridal couch". Known as the Pelamin, this couch is the centrepiece of the whole ceremony, and two pelamins are required - one in the bride's house and the other in the bridegroom's. As the Bersanding ceremony customarily takes place in the afternoon, the bridegroom entertains guests at his own house in the morning. The bersanding (enthronement) ceremony begins with the groom's procession with friends, relatives, musicians and people waving bunga manggar (palm blossom) to meet the bride. Often various good-humoured attempts are made to waylay or stop the groom from getting to the bride. The main part of the bersanding involves the seating of the bridal couple on a dais and sprinkling them with yellow rice and scented water by family members, relatives and guests as a sign of blessing. Each guest will receive a bunga telur (egg flower), a decorated egg with a fabric flower, as a sign of fertility. The couple are considered royalty for the day, and so various royal customs are performed for them, including musicians playing court music and 'bodyguards' performing a display of Silat (traditional Malay martial arts).

The modern days Malay wedding have flower girls to accompany the wedding couple to the Pelamin .

After the bersanding ceremony, the wedded couple and their guests attend a celebratory feast called the makan beradab (formal meal). This involves the bride and groom feeding each other sweetened rice. The celebrations are concluded by posing for family photographs.

It can be really funny that in the past, individuals wished to put some colors inside the wedding pictures. Nowadays, we desire to take away the color to make the picture less vivid. The main reason behind it’s constantly people’s wish to come up with pictures that reflect the beauty of the entire wedding ceremony.

For the past few days I spent a lot of time thinking about what I want to write for my first blog entry of the year. Do I write something funny, recap my favourite moments of 2011 or write what I want to achieve in 2012?.
The year 2011 was good to me; I had a lot of great opportunities come my way, such as writing about my trip on holiday,trip invited by firefly airline and Tourism Malaysia, trip to nature invited by Sarawak Blogger and Sarawak Tourism Board.

Birds are very interesting creatures, but it’s not so easy to photograph them. Wild birds usually don’t pose where you want and, moreover, it’s often difficult to get close enough to take quality pictures. But if you know some basics of bird photography, it becomes much easier to capture amazing moments of the birds’ life.

It’s not necessary to have an expensive camera of lens, however the proper equipment lets to take bird photos easier.

Most birds are quite shy, so you need at least 200mm (300mm is better) to take pictures of them. Longer focal length not only lets to photograph birds from larger distance, it also gives more blurred background.

Tripod, monopod, flash, even remote control sometimes help much, but usually aren’t necessary.

The next step is to learn, how to get to the birds closer, so then you will be able to take quality pictures of them.Everything starts with a good light. The best time for photography is morning or evening because the light is soft and has a pleasant hue, shadows are not so distinct, it’s easier to get details from very bright and dark areas.

Birds are wonderful creatures. When you are taking photos, don’t harm them. I strongly advice you not to photograph birds near nests (except when the distance is large and bird isn’t sensitive to disturbance – there are only very few such species). Even if you don’t harm birds, you can show the place of the nest for predators. The life of bird is more important than a photo.

Policemen On Bicycle.

“Police Officers - Should there be more police officers in our streets? Every day I see small offences being committed (driving with a mobile phone in hand, bike riders on the pavement, youths drinking in ‘non drinking zones’, etc) but there is no one of power there to prevent or stop this from happening?

The Royal Police of Malaysia in Sarawak launched its bicycle beat unit to widen its reach in crime prevention.This unit might eventually cover all areas under its jurisdiction, especially those places which are not accessible to police patrol cars.

I think our cops do a great job.

wonder if the local police have been as extensively trained riding this bicycle and yes,cops on bikes will be faster than cops on foot.the patrolmen on bicycles will cover an area for at least two hours before moving to another location.The policemen involved will be fully equipped.

I have faith that members of the newly set up unit are fully capable of doing their jobs effectively and hopefully the Kuching Waterfront – which is such an attraction to visitors and locals alike – will be safe for all of us local and also to the tourist.

Last week i have a chance to visit local air show in my town(Kuching,Sarawak)the host is Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia .One of the officer asked me if I wanted to visit the Kuching International Airport Air Traffic Control Tower and see with whom The Pilot of the plane communicating every time they seek permission to taxi the runway, or receive directions as to which runway to take off from etc. “Yes I would love to!” I replied. I asked if we will be walking there and he said, “No we’ll drive there”. “But it’s not that far ".

On arrival we have a short briefing as per requirement they requested us to switch off our cell phones,take of our shoes and silent please.Taking picture is allowed and it is best not to fire your camera flash.

I saw what an excellent view the Flight Control crew had of the entire airport, and beyond. It was unbelievable. The tower was circular in shape and had glass windows all round i.e. the crew had a 360 degree view. There were 5 people working, and I was shown around the tower and the instruments. There were several screens which the crew used to communicate with air traffic. It was a quiet day and I only saw a couple of planes flying and landing.

Negative space, by definition, is the empty space around the subject or focus of the photograph. If the edges of the photo frame the contents within, and the subject is the focal point, it’s possible that just about every photo, even macro’s and tight portrait shots can have negative space.

The negative space technique and showcase how it can be used to bring out emotions and feelings.Mostly focusing around people, including negative space for photographers for some reason tends to lead to the overall photo having some lingering emotion. It can often include despair, loneliness, abandonment, anger, rage and sorrow, although happiness and joyfulness often do appear, not nearly as prevalent though

Give negative space photography a try, keeping in mind that the subject matter is still key, but look at composing slightly different with a focus on less, and you’ll be happily surprised with more.

One of the exciting things about photography is the anticipation of ‘the shot’ – hunting down the moment in time that is worth recording and being there with your camera poised when it happens.

No genre of photography creates this anticipation like ‘Street Photography’; moving with the crowd, ever alert to the signs of human activity, watching and waiting: to see and not to be seen.

Street photography has been a passionate past time for many since the discovery of photography. The very first fixing of a photographic image of a person was a street scene.

Everyone has the potential to be a street photographer. Not everyone is game.
This is my approach. It doesn’t suit everyone and there may be some ethical questions I am answerable to, but I’m sure you can weed out the bits you like from the borderline criminal behaviour of an obsessive street photographer such as myself.

Irrespective of your ‘rights’ there is the question of etiquette. That also varies from culture to culture and person to person. I have my own personal approach (which requires the wearing of a good pair of running shoes and a more than ignorant look on my face) but that may not suit everyone. Ultimately, discretion, common sense and personal safety, are the prime considerations. It may not always be about ‘getting the shot.’

Talking about place of the shot.The usual venue is where people gather. ‘Street’ can be interpreted in many ways and might include alleys, shopping malls, shops and cafes, parks, buses and trains, market places, in fact, anywhere you will find the structures and architecture of civilisation with the people who frequent them.

My favourite places are shopping malls (open and closed), High Street in small towns and villages, and the back streets of big cities.Just be careful if you catch someone doing something they shouldn’t be doing. That’s when it can get ugly.
