Well,lately I've been getting very busy.It's always when you are busy that you appreciate the time when you are free.Speaking of free time,I would like to share a couple of photos that I took recently in Kuching.The Warrior's Day.

Warrior's Memorial Day.

The memorial ceremony is dedicated to the gallant war veterans who had fought in Sarawak during the period of Indonesian Confrontation(1963-1965) and communist insurgency (1965-1973).

Besides the local Malaysian army,policemen,field force,the were other soldiers from Commonwealth Countries who had served in Sarawak during both periods.

Varieties of bananas of many kind on sale.

Kota Padawan of 10th mile in Jalan Penrissen of Kuching.There is a weekly market every Saturday and Sunday and this is where near by village folks as well as small traders display their merchandise at the provided space.Although this weekend market are smaller in size but one still can find variety of jungle product and local handicraft.

Remembering the old good days.This is one and only summer house of Kuching and use to be my favourite hang out place during 70's for ais batu kacang(ABC),rojak and sontong kankong.To-day I decided to drop by the place but not to the summer house I used to know.It's seem like rundown place and neglected by the authority.During good old days,this summer house was full of visitors especially weekend as their were a Police Band playing next to the house.Now the good old days are gone.

Since I am just a self-taught photographer and I always carry camera everywhere I go.I love in doing street photography but sometime lighting and weather was not in favourable for landscape picture.I decided to zoom in on the details and choose to shoot a leaves after morning downpour.

Something I have wanted to do for a while now is get up early and head for Padawan Raft Safari 2009 in Kampung Git of Padawan District.This place is about two hours drive from the city.This safari is an exciting activity which I see offer adventure and fun and it is ideal for those who love nature and water sport especially kayaking.I see that this year event is gand affair with 79 team and among the teams is one from Singapore.

Poling and rowing bamboo raft down a mild river.They say,has some tricky parts of Giam rapids but mainly they just row and row.

Pushing pole,shore and drag the bamboo rafts all the way down to finish line.

I think this will be a true test of strength and endurance because participants will have to row over a punishing distance of 26 kilo meter from kampung Dannu to kampung Git.

The official of the event enjoy the view from the stage that build on the trees..so that's nature.

On my way from Kampung Git to Kota Sentosa,I stop by at Pitcher Plant & Wild Orchid Centre(Photo above) in Kota Padawan.

This centre display one part of our protected plants in Sarawak,Malaysia.This centre is not that big but it has an impressive collection of pitcher plants & wild orchid.

This cloud seemed to rise from its formation and start to perform a dance.It lasted for only a few minutes before its shaped changed.I point my camera as I didn't want to miss this show and quickly fired the shutter.

Kota Sentosa is well known to the local people as "Pasar Batu Tujoh(7)" or '7th Mile Bazzar".It's a small town near to the Kuching International Airport.

Kuching is a “liveable” city because of its people.He said while there were many other components that contributed to this, it was the friendly and neighbourly attitude of the people that had made the city a joy to live in.

“It’s good that our city is clean, green, developed and known as the garden city. But what’s interesting is ‘liveability’. This concept is not hard to implement here because Kuching has been picked before as one of the most liveable cities in the world.

So what the visitors say about Kuching ???????

What are Kuching's most favourite hangout places?

Well,that depends on age group and of course depends on how much you willing to spend .Like in any other cities the trend for a favourite hangout

places ,especially among the youth has been cafes with free WIFI or hotspot internet access.Few days ago I walk into a cafe to hangout so I park myself at table,open my laptop and hangout for hours buying only a single latte or any of that fancy espresso.

Hey, look what happened to this building.I call this construction NETTING cover over the whole front of this building.It helps to improve the safety of construction site.It acts as a tri-fold barrier on the building under construction.It reduces debris from falling out of building.The NETTING also hides away unsightly work areas giving the site a tidier look.

After strolling along the Kuching waterfront,I hope on board a sampan or river taxi (Rm0.50cent) which will take you across to Fort Margherita.Named after Margaret ,wife of Charles Brooke(the second of the three "White Rajahs" who once ruled Sarawak.This 19th century fort was strategically built on a hillock to protect the city from enemy or pirate attacks.To-day it has been converted into a Police museum exhibiting old cannon guns.

Although Deepavali today is not a public holiday in Sarawak, the celebration is not affected as the Indian-Hindu community here open their homes to friends, acquaintances and well-wishers in the spirit of sharing that befits the Festival Of Lights.

Even as Deepavali approached, the fragrance of murukkus being cooked pervaded an Indian household amid a ruckus from family members trying to get things organised for the big day.

On Deepavali Day itself, Indian homes are spruced up with kolams (a beautiful floor decor made up of coloured rice, flour or desiccated coconut), beautiful lambs and lights and other elegant decorations.

Families welcome guests throughout the day with an array of Indian delicacies amid at atmosphere of cordiality.

Oh well… HAPPY DWALLI to all.

On last Saturday Oct10,2009 I pay a visit and take a photo art & carpentry make kris,parang at a exhibition in conjunction of Malaysia Day in Kuching waterfront.

"Pak Ali manufacture of Iron" or in Malay "Pak Ali Pandai Besi".I have time to ask why he used the term 'IRON' He said the title was adopted by the public to create a skilled craftsman iron kris,It make up work such as welding steel such as the title does not apply because the public can make a work that way.Instead work to iron kris is a traditional art that is rarely owned.

His real name is En Ghazali bin Mohd Noor he come from Trengganu and he owned a workshop in Trengganu.Pak Ali are friendly,kindness and humility language.

Roti John' is one of our local street food. It is essentially an omelette sandwich, 'Roti' is the Malay word for bread, and more generally for any bread based food. The origin of the 'John' in the name is allegedly due to the Western origin of the Baguette and the tomato sauce used in the dish. During the years of British Colonial, all Caucasians and Westerners were colloquially and affectionately referred to as 'John' in Malay, and as such the nickname of 'Roti John'(literally 'John Bread') was readily formed. It's a simple and tasty .

A night of colour and splendours to mark MALAYSIA DAY.

The Padang Merdeka here was transformed into a sea of flags and colourful costumes of hundered of dancers in a ceremony to mark the deferred Malaysia Day celebration here.
Malaysia Day was on September 16 but since it fell during the Ramadan month. the celebration was brought forward to Saturday.(10/10/2009)
About 15, 000 people thronged the Padang Merdeka to witness the colourful presentations and cultural performances, which depicted the concept of 1Malaysia.
The performances truly reflected the multi-ethnic racial composition of the country and of the citizens living harmoniously, peacefully, in prosperity and united under one roof.
