Can You Relate to....Nrelate?

Over time, each of you who blog will realize just how many posts you have created and it will amaze you! So what do you do to help your readers find those simply amazing old posts? Thumbnails at the bottom of each post are a great way to direct traffic to other related posts, so when we were asked to try out nrelate, a plug-in for related posts, we jumped right on board!

nrelate is a plugin that both blogger and wordpress blogs can use. It is SEO friendly, as it does not redirect through nRelate's own site - as many other similar plugins do. This plugin can help readers find other posts and increase your pageviews. You can even choose to monetize the plugin and select how many adds to show. In addition to all of that, you can even choose what you want it to look like with different styling options, sizes, and how far back in your archives you would like the plugin to pull from! How cool is that!

We installed the related posts plugin on our site and it was very user friendly. They have both a blogger and wordpress installation option. We were able to customize the look by choosing the size of thumbnail and the style. There are quite a few styles to choose from, but the simple default style fit the look of our blog best...

One of the best features is the ability to track your clicks and ad revenue on the nrelate site. We installed the plugin and then went back a few days later to enable the ads to try them out! It was super easy to make all the changes. The graphic section is easy to read and really lets you see how much traffic is searching other posts on your blog via the nrelate plugin.

We have been pleased with the nrelate plugin and will continue to use it. It is free and very easy to use. You can see more information on the plugin at the nrelate website. You can also follow along with them on facebook.

So if you can relate to nrelate, try it out!!

3 Tips on Planning Children's Birthday Parties on a Budget

One of my favorite things in life is party planning, and today I can't wait to share some tips for planning children's parties on a budget!

Here are 3 tips to help you plan a beautiful children's party on a budget...

A Butterfly Breakfast

1.Location of the party...
I know that these days most people do not have their child's birthday party at home, but this is hands down, the best way to save money. In our area, most birthday party places start at over $250 per dozen children and that does not include food, cake, or party favors. If the idea of having your kiddos and all of their buddies inside your home gives you the chills, do it in your backyard, garage, or at your local playground.

2.Decorations for the party...
This is my favorite part! So I don't get overwhelmed (or overspend), I usually break decorating for the party into three spaces: the entrance, a main table, and the children's table for seating.

A Butterfly Breakfast

Having a welcoming entrance gets your guests in the mood to party! You could make a sign for the front door, hang balloons on the mailbox, or a customized display like the one you see above. The children's parents will know they are in the right place and the kids will be so excited about the party!

Girls Rock! Party

The main table is where I spend the most of my decorating dollars and attention. It really is quite simple... put a tablecloth over the table, set up a cute display with your cake and goodies, hang something over the table, or use something that has height to anchor the space. For my daughter's 7th birthday, I simply wrapped boxes in black wrapping paper for a super cheap display!

Party Perfect Tissue Poms

If you have ever met me, you would know that I love tissue poms! They are so big and vibrant and are a cheap addition to make your party decor really pop. If you consider that it only costs $1 per pom, it is cheaper to have those than a helium balloon, plus you don't have to pick it up the morning of the party! Our tutorial on making party perfect tissue poms and our tutorial on making tissue tassel garlands are must sees!

A Minnie Mouse Birthday

The children's table is the final part of the decor equation. To save some money here, I will usually incorporate either the craft or activity at each little one's place. They just love having something special and fun that is all their own at their seat!

3.Printables for the party...
The final tip for planning parties on a budget is the use of printables. I love hopping on ETSY to see what beautiful collections are out there for parties. One of my favorite shops is, Amanda's Parties To Go. For one low price you can purchase a customized pdf for invitations, cupcake topper and wrappers, party favor tags, and so much more. You simply print it off at your local office supply store and you have a beautifully coordinated party. Aside from the printables themselves being very affordable, you can really save on your cupcakes and party favors too. Simply putting a cute tag on candy, or a dollar section toy can make it look so cute. In the same sense, I can buy solid colored cupcakes from my local superstore and put a cupcake wrapper around them with a cute pick and pay considerably less than a decorated cake. The same goes for invitations!

All 3 of these tips can help you plan an incredibly party for your children without breaking the bank! These tips can also be carried over into all types of parties that you create! I hope that you have found these...

DIY Vintage Crate... Summer Reading Station Tutorial

My children both have required summer reading from their schools. Each summer, it never fails....someone loses a book somewhere in the house! Can you relate? So, this summer I decided to create something new...

A Summer Reading Station !!

Today, I am going to show you part 1 of my summer reading station. Part 1 is how I created the vintage crates to store all of their summer reading supplies in, to {hopefully} prevent the books from "disappearing"! This idea was inspired by the absolutely adorable Mason Jar Planter over at Hoot Designs!

Supplies Needed to Make the Vintage Crates...

unfinished wood crate {these came from Jo-Ann}

stain in color of choice {I used dark walnut}

sponge tip brush

paper towels

self-adhesive book plates {these are from the Martha Stewart collection by Avery, available at Staples}

Handles for sides {these came from Lowes}

Jute Twine

First, apply the stain to the crates with the sponge tip brush. Wipe off excess with paper towels. Allow the crates to dry thoroughly!

Next, apply the self-adhesive bookplates to the dry crates. I used the silver bookplates and centered them on the crates...

Finally, attach the handles on the sides. Originally, I was going to wrap the handles in jute twine, but decided I liked them without it! A girl can change her mind, right?

Of course, while I was doing this project, I also redid the entire bookshelf as well! I'll post about a few of those projects soon!

For now, I am going to be organizing the crates. I'll show you how I did that next week for part 2 of my...

A Healthy Breakfast for My Girls { Lenders Healthy Grain Bagels }

I was selected for this opportunity as a member of Clever Girls Collective, and I recieved coupons for free Lender's Multi-Grain Bagels. The content and opinions expressed here are all my own.

This morning the girls and I got to try out Lender's Healthy Multi-grain Bagels. What was the verdict? Yummy! I topped them with light cream cheese and strawberries and they thought they were pretty and delicious! They love cream cheese { clearly they are their mother's children }, so I knew that they would like them!

The best part for me is that they are healthy and good for them! They are high in dietary fiber {6 grams} and a great source of proteins {11 grams}.

This has been a wonderful lazy morning at our house. We went to church last night and we were able to sleep in for once! I guess... if you call 7am sleeping in!

Also, at our church, the second graders receive bibles and Ann received hers last night. My girl has carried it with her ever since {be still my heart}. She is growing up SO fast and I am just so grateful that we are blessed with friends and family who are such strong followers of Christ. I love that she knows God and loves him with that pure heart of hers!

Dip Dyed Fabric Garland { A Tulip Tie Dye Tutorial }

Bonnie and I have really had some amazing opportunities over the last few months and we are so excited to share a fun Tulip Tie Dye project we have been working on! Just be warned... this is not your hippie aunt or your tween's version of tie dye!

The kind folks at I Love to Create sent us their rainbow tie-dye kit and surface cover by Tulip. We were to create something that goes beyond your normal tie-dye t-shirt design and boy was my mind spinning!

My first decision was what technique to use. The above picture shows some of the most popular tie-dying techniques. I love the ombre look, but I went a little different avenue to get there... dip dying! You should totally check out the I Love to Create site for all of their amazing project ideas and even more techniques. Now to choose what to make!

With the weather getting hot and vacation on the horizon, I knew I wanted to do something coastal using beach-inspired colors. I decided to make a flowy fabric garland out of burlap and dip dyed cotton. I had the perfect gauzy scarf that needed a little color and thought it would be beautiful with varying shades of teal at each end. If you don't have a white scarf, any gauzy fabric will do, but make sure it is 100% cotton.

Happy Mother's Day!!

We hope that each of you enjoy this special day with family, friends, and loved ones!

In honor of Mother's Day, Trish and I wanted to show off what makes us mothers...

Can you tell that they have no personality at all? Bahahaha!! Never a dull moment with this group of crazy rascals! We are just so blessed that they get to grow up with cousins super close by! The adorably, sweet little girls are Tricia's and the older young lady and handsome young man are mine! :)

Being a mom is such a privilege, we are just in awe of these creations each day. They truly do make each day an adventure and we love it!

Our 10 Year Anniversary and a Subway Art Gift

The hubs and I just celebrated our 10 year anniverary a couple of weeks ago! The first decade of our marriage has been quite eventful... we have moved six times, we became parents to two of the sweetest little girls, experienced too many great losses of loved ones, and became so much closer to each other and to God! I am just such a grateful wife for the blessing of my husband.

I wanted to make a family rules canvas for him, but the time totally got away from me :) So, I searched ETSY and came across this beautiful subway art from Vinyl Crafts. Smartie Pants Teacher Gift...{ A Dollar Store Craft }

Here in the South, we spend lots of time outdoors in the spring and summer, and nothing is more refreshing than an ice cold glass of sweet tea or lemonade!

When Trish and I were invited to participate in the Martha Stewart Mother's Day campaign, part of out project humbly accepted a position towards the back...our little glass, stenciled drink pitcher...

Now, it would have been just lovely and simple as is, but why do that when I could stencil it to match the adorable monogrammed plates I made! Here's what I did...
