This weekend saw in the first EVER Vintage at Goodwood Festival (the uber cool brainchild of designer Wayne Hemingway) and of course Aussie and the Angels were there, to celebrate Yummy Hair!

On Saturday we took Angels Danni and Maria, Jenny and Lil down for a day of fashion, music, art, dancing, roller discoing, and of course – yummy hair spotting. We couldn’t have chosen a better event to find amazing hair – there was everything from victory rolls to Vegas showgirls, disco queens to 20’s darlings, and everything in between.

We’re all about making gals out there feel aussome, and what better way to do it than dish compliments on hair. Everyone at Vintage @ Goodwood had gone to great lengths too – it’s only right they should receive recognition for their efforts!

After a spot of lunch and a wander down the “high street”, the Angels got stuck in, each choosing their own particular trend or look to go for, and away they went to snap the Yummy Hair. Click here to check out which fab girls and hair Jenny found, and keep your eyes peeled for Danni and Maria’s finds, and Lil’s too.

Our picks of the day are below – we were particularly loving the ‘40’s vibe, though the odd 60’s and 70’s ‘do’ slipped in there too! Vintage at Goodwood will be on again next year, and we highly recommend checking out it’s wares – if you were to go, which era would you choose, and how would you wear your hair? We’d love to hear your thoughts on what makes Yummy Hair, so comment away below…

And hey, even if you can’t make it to Vintage at Goodwood, just try having a Yummy Hair Day instead – we felt so great after doling out all the compliments that we went home feeling aussome about ourselves too – yay for Yummy Hair!

The third installment of our Professionals is Cassie Steward, http://www.cassiemakeup.com/ one of our super cool and talented makeup artists that we use for Aussie events. Read on for Cassie’s fabbo interview…

How did you get your first break in the industry?

There wasn’t really a definind moment per se – I’d worked really hard assisting and testing for a few years and slowly started building up my client base and as my reputation grew, the jobs became bigger.

Who or what inspired you to become a makeup artist?

Just like any girl, I’d always loved make-up and hair since I was very young. I used to steal my mum’s lipsticks and eyeshadows and give myself some disasterous make overs at age 3 or 4 – there’s lots of photo evidence to prove it! I suppose the fascination with it just never went away, so I enrolled on a basic make-up course at my local college at 16 and spent the next few years assisting… the rest is history!

What has been your most exciting assignment to date?

I’m not sure to be honest – there have been all sorts of weird and wonderful jobs. I think probably my proudest would have had to have been Triumph swimwear a few years ago as it was my first big campaign at that point and was very exciting for me at the time. The Federicci ice cream ads are always a bit surreal too – not often I find myself working in a chapel with models in full nun/priest outfits kissing!

Who’s been the best celebrity to work with?

Sophie Anderton – very inspiring as it’s so rare to see someone who you’ve seen so many photos of in magazines/newspapers be even more beautiful in real life. Also Peter Crouch was a good one – very funny, easygoing and down to earth.

Who or what has been your biggest disaster?

I haven’t had a single big disaster yet (touch wood) but for the first year or so of my fledgeling make-up career, my models certainly seemed to walk away from my chair with a mysterious orange ring around their face… when I look back at the photos it’s so cringe!

If you could pass on one Makeup artist / hair stylist secret, what would it be?

A good skincare reigime. No make-up can beat finding and using the right products/process on your skin – it’s absolutely priceless, vital to a beautiful make-up application and those who look after their skin not only product-wise but also with their diet, water intake etc will see the benefits for the rest of their life.

What are the key looks right now?

Pastels are a key trend at the moment, in clothes and in make-up. Make-up wise, I don’t find most of them very wearable, but I absolutely love a good coral lipstick – there is a shade of coral for everyone and whilst it’s on trend right now, it’s also quite classic.

What celebrities are really working the look this year?

One that really jumps out for me is Beyonce – her latest video is amazing and I think she always manages to get it spot on. She is always on trend but never looks like she’s trying too hard, and always keeps it quite classic with her wardrobe/make-up/hair, with flashes of colour to keep things on trend. Her make-up artist Francesca Tolot is amazing. Beyonce always looks fantastic. I also like the fact that she seems to embrace her body shape even though she’s not stick thin – I hate celebrities who endorse the size zero phenomena as for most girls it’s unrealistic and quite dangerous.

Which celebrity have you always wanted to work with?

I have two – Mariah Carey (don’t laugh) as I’ve loved her and her music since I was very young and I think her face is unique and gorgeous, and also Jennifer Love Hewitt – very classy, wears her clothes well and obviously looks after herself with her beautiful skin, hair and great features.

If you weren’t a makeup artist what would you be doing instead?

I think when/if I retire, my top choices are leaning towards washing dogs at a poodle parlour or working in a cupcake shop – sounds pretty stress free to me!

If you haven’t already noticed, we’ve been rescuing Angels all over the country, and last night saw our second batch of London Angels join in the good times!

Held at the super hot De Montfort Suite within the Town Hall Hotel and Apartments, (seriously, this place was lush) the evening kicked off quickly, with our guests Fiona, Tor, Amie, Ellie, Amy, Hayley, Natalie and Christina (a last minute invitee who dropped her shopping basket in Tesco’s and hightailed it over in a flash!) already ramped and ready to go with what hair styles they were after and what “life situations” they had coming up where Aussie could save the day.

“There’s more to life than hair but it’s a good place to start” is our philosophy, and last night we were all over it – what with wedding season, birthday bashes and festivals around the corner, an Angel needs a little help so she can concentrate on the fun stuff!

At the beginning of the night, we asked the Angels to challenge the Aussie products in the styling range, and I think it’s safe to say that was certainly achieved!

Amy was first up, and Amber used our Aussie Aussome Volume mousse (worked through the roots) to tease and then backcomb Amy’s hair into the most gorgeous beehive to ever step foot out of the 60’s.

Curls were a big hit of the night, with Fi, Tor, Amie and Natalie all going for a beautiful wave and volume using Aussie Aussome Volume mousse and the Aussome Volume Gloss and Spray.

Plaits and fishtail plaits were also on the menu, with Hayley rocking the plaited hairline style, and Ellie receiving some mine hippy-esque fishtail plaits, which I really hope to see recreated as I had to be the model whilst she practiced!

It was truly another aussome evening – good drinks, great company and gorgeous hair – and the Angels left ready to take on the world and all the fab parties within it! Thanks to everyone who came along, and to check out more pics of the evening, click here.

Last Saturday saw the last of our Aussie Tribe parties for this year, and wow was it a finale! As the evening was for all the members of our Colour Mate Tribe (who need help to care for coloured hair) we decided to theme the night around coloured hair icons, as many people dye their hair because they’ve been inspired by someone amazing (I know I go blonder and blonder thanks to Marylin!) So, the girls were asked to come dressed as their favourite coloured hair icon, and we provided the entertainment in the form of the most fabulous Lady Gaga and Beyonce impersonators that we’ve ever seen!

Once the party got under way and everyone had a coloured cocktail in hand, the lovely Aussie stylists Amber and Zara showed us a demo of how to do a fish plait – not only are they so hot right now, it’s a great way to do your hair in between salon visits, and best of all it doesn’t use heat styling, something that Coloured Haired girls should always try to minimize. The stylists had so many other useful tips too, such as zigzag your part if you can’t get to a salon and your regrowth’s out of control, and always see a salon rather than trying to go DIY – your hair will thank you for it!

Ling’s hair looked gorgeous when they had finished, and so did everyone else’s by the end of the night as everyone got the opportunity to have their hair styled, which was excellent for some as the rain had caught them on the way over!

Whilst this was happening, our two special guests introduced themselves and got to mingling. Both Gaga and Beyonce used the Aussie Colour Mate range as it’s peachy – perfect for coloured hair, and Beyonce particularly likes the 3Minute Miracle – who knew?

But if you think their hair was amazing, you should have seen their performance! Gaga was a beautiful singer (and the coke cans in her hair really didn’t move once!) and Beyonce’s booty shaking reached a whole new level.

Once they’d waved au revoir it was time for us to do the same, so the girls departed with their goodybags (complete with coloured wigs!) It was such an aussome night and so a big thankyou to everyone who came along.

That’s right, on Thursday night the Aussie team hightailed it up to Manchester to host the second of our Aussome Volume Tribe parties, this time held at Bluu Bar in the Northern Quarter. The evening was a chance for all the Northern members of the Aussome Volume Tribe to meet each other, learn about the Aussie Aussome Volume range plus put it to the test, and what better way than to host a 60’s party!

Once the buffet table had been thoroughly raided (mostly by yours truly!) and there were cocktails in hand, it was time for Amber and Zara our lovely Aussie stylists to talk about how to achieve volume and what products to use (The Aussome Volume range of course!)

Jennifer had been selected to be the hair model and her hair was set with hot rollers, before being shaken out to style her hair into gorgeous waves and curls. Our stylists had so many hints and tips for achieving volume, including leaning at a 45degree angle when blowdrying your own hair, working mousse through damp roots before blasting with a hairdryer, and spraying the Volume and Gloss hairspray on the roots before backcombing. There’s no excuse for us to have a flat hair day now, ever again…

Once the demo was over, Amber and Zara then got to work on everyone else, using the Aussome Volume mousse, Volume and Gloss spray and the Texturising and Conditioning gel to create height that we’ve only ever dreamed of! Liloo went for a brilliant half- beehive, Carla achieved a beautiful 60’s do and Jenn managed what looked like a completely new haircut!

Whilst the Aussome hairstyling was in action, the talented Shola Kaye took to the, er, carpet, and performed the first set of early Motown hits, before hitting the floor again; this time armed with extra microphones. Lyrics were dotted about the room which meant the Angels had no escape, not that they wanted any when they realised how much fun it was!

Throughout the night the Angels and guests were asked to write down their hair tips and pop them in our Aussie Style Tip Boxes, because at the end of all our Tribe parties we’ll be putting together a Style Bible with all the tips, to send to our Angels.

Before we knew it the evening had come to an end, and, with high hair and high spirits, the Angels left the party armed with goodybags full of products they could use to recreate their look at home.

Thanks to all who came along; it was so great to see everyone together to celebrate Aussie and the 60’s! To check out more pics of our Aussome Volume Tribe night, just click here.

Have you got Yummy Hair? Then why not celebrate it?? That’s what we set out to do when we took our lovely Angels Sherin, Fiona and Reena to London’s Lovebox Festival last Sunday. We here at Aussie love making girls feel good about themselves, because sometimes it can be hard looking this good and you deserve a little recognition for your efforts!

Everyone enjoys receiving a compliment, and it’s just as much fun giving one, so we spent the day doing just that – hunting down gals with gorgeous hair and letting them know how much we loved their barnets!

Top knots, hot crops and va va volume were the order of the day, and despite the windy weather our festival goer’s still managed to get it right time and time again. Check out some of my top picks from the day below, and let me know what you what you consider to be Yummy Hair – is it great colour you rate, or cut or style? And how does it affect you when you’re having a Yummy Hair Day? I for one feel so much more confident when my hair is behaving itself, but I don’t want to leave the house if it’s not! We’d love to hear how you feel, so get commenting…

If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably been wondering where Prince Charming’s been all your life. Well, this weekend we were in for a surprise as he just happened to show up to our Luscious Long Tribe Fairytale party! That’s right, on Saturday night Prince Charming, Cinderella, Snow White, our Luscious Long tribe members and their Luscious guests all descended upon the VIP room at Avalon in East London, to be swept up into a magical evening of hair, frolics and fantasy.

Once everyone had arrived, there was a quick welcome speech followed by 2 demonstrations on how to do up-do’s with long hair by our Aussie stylists Amber and Zara. Whilst demonstrating each step of what they were creating, the stylists also discussed the best way to take care of long hair, and which products to use – the Luscious Long range of course! The eucalyptus in the range is perfect for long hair, as it cleans, nourishes and protects hair from fly-aways but doesn’t weigh the hair down.

Hayley’s retro do was created using a round brush and the Aussome Volume hairspray, giving her up – do a boost whilst holding it in place. Zoe’s rapunzelesque plait was created with a quick blowdry and a spritz or two of the Luscious Long leave-in conditioner before being plaited and finished off with a pretty flower.

When the demo’s were over the party got into full swing, giving the Luscious Long tribe members the chance to meet, mingle and bond over their long hair trials and tribulations, and between chats everyone got to visit the stylists to have a hair makeover.

Cinderella arrived, albeit missing a shoe, but luckily Prince Charming was close behind her, ready to reunite her with it. There was a touching moment when he placed her shoe back on, however poor Snow White wasn’t too happy about the whole thing, as apparently Cinders wasn’t the only one he’d charmed. As the Angels will attest to, Prince Charming did indeed live up to his name!

By the end of the night, everyone had shared how they care for their lusciously long hair, met their fellow tribe members and been chatted up by Prince Charming – always a good Saturday night when that happens!

Cue the caped kangaroo because Aussie were out in force again last night, this time to rescue our Leeds Angels with a little help from the experts. There’s more to life than hair but it’s a good place to start – this is the Aussie philosophy, and ‘round here we like to take it quite literally! This meant that we had a hair stylist, clothes stylist and makeup artist on hand to demonstrate looks and styles on the Angels to help them look good and feel great.

Sinead, Carla, Catherine, Liloo, Briony-Lou, Phoebe and Daisy all popped by our luxury penthouse to be greeted and treated with champagne cocktails from our bartender Ian, followed by hair styling with Amber, and then a session in makeup with Cassie and a consultation with our stylist Steven to complement their hair.

We asked the girls to think of what hair styles they’ve never tried or have been unable to do themselves, and then Amber got to work creating the look they were after, whilst talking them step by step through how to do it themselves at home.

Each step of the way all tips were written down by the stylists and the Angels, so by the end of the night everyone was armed to the teeth with the tips and tricks the experts were sharing.

This do on Phoebe was created using the Hi Shine hairspray, Aussome Volume mousse and Velcro rollers – Phoebe kept them in for a good 20minutes and then voila! Beautiful waves and shine!

Our next Professional is Amber www.amberrosehairstylist.com, who many of you may have already met (and loved!) at our Angel events. Amber is a professional hair stylist, and has been doing an absolutely amazing job with us at Aussie. Take it away Amber!

How did you get your first break in the industry?

Styling the hair for The Jasper Gardiva Autumn/winter10 lookbook. The lookbook was given out to every one at his show so it was a great opportunity.

Who or what inspired you to become a hair stylist?

Guido Palau and Eugene Souleiman because of the beautiful way they style hair, it blows me away every time I see their work and I really look up to them.

What has been your most exciting assignment to date?

Working back stage at London fashion week last season was really exciting; it’s pretty busy but I enjoying doing it!

Who’s been the best celebrity to work with?

Brain Friedman and Hofit Golan were so much fun to work with and they were both lovely.

Who or what has been your biggest disaster?

At the start of my hairdresser training my lovely mum had a few wonky hair cuts but her hair is beautiful now!

If you could pass on one hair stylist secret, what would it be?

Always use conditioner on your hair when washing, it will make your life so much easier! If you can try and leave the conditioner on for 3 minutes give it time to work deep into your hair. The secret to good hair is good condition, I recommend Aussie 3 minute miracle!

What are the key looks for Summer?

Soft updo’s like the hair from Spring/Summer 2010 Alexander Wang, Chanel, Prada. Are great looks for the summer, really pretty and perfect for the hot Summer days!

What celebrities are really working the look this year?

I think Alexa Chung and Florence Welch are both working the soft summer looks this year.

Which celebrity have you always wanted to work with?

Gisele Bundchen and Maria Carey because they both have great hair and I’m a huge fan of them!

If you weren’t a makeup artist / hair stylist, what would you be doing instead?

I love my job so that’s a hard one but I think I would be a clothes stylist or work in child care.

Hey cool cats, last Thursday saw the first of our Aussome Volume Tribe parties swing into action, and wow was it a happening night! Held in the Rehearsal Room at Adam st Members Club in London (where ‘50s and 60’s musicians used to actually rehearse!), the theme was 1960’s with an early-Motown twist.

Once all our Aussome Volume members and their guests had arrived, we had a quick welcome speech by yours truly, followed by a chat with our hairstylists on the topic of most interest to the tribe – how to get your hair to reach new heights!

We found out that the Aussome Volume shampoo and conditioner’s magic ingredient is hops, which is also found in beer (but it won’t give you a beer belly, we promise!), and the mousse that gives you va va voom contains cherry bark, a special Aussie bark that adds bounce and shine.

Check out the amazing volume and shine Hannah, Amy S, Amy and Zoe achieved after Amber and Zara styled their hair using the Aussome Volume products, wow!

The demo was quickly followed by cocktails and individual hair styling, as our stylists Amber and Zara got to work creating beautiful beehives and voluminous barnets, using the Aussome Volume mousse and hair spray.

The night would not have been complete without a little music, and it came in the form of the brilliant Shola K, who rocked all the classics whilst looking ultra glam in her evening frock and Supreme – esque wig. By the second set we all took it turns to join her on stage, singing our hearts out and hogging the microphone whenever we got the chance!
