Before the awarding event, I jokingly told my friends, “Pag nanalo ako, magpapa-inom ako …ng gulaman!” After the grand winner was declared, I still treated my friends because although I did not win the grand prize, I received Php 25,000 and I surely, definitely still was a winner! I gained a number of new friends and supporters. I got to have more exposures via interviews, and I got to share my story. And the best part was that I was offered to be one of the regular columnists of Manila Bulletin to further inspire hope and optimism in our countrymen. And that is how KCAT CAN began.

CDO Bloggers:Project Cadayunan Primary School

the Cagayan De Oro Bloggers will hold an outreach program in the newly opened public primary school in Besigan. Cadayunan Primary School is 52 kilometers away from the city proper and most of the people in the area are farmers with no regular transportation except dump trucks provided by the city government to help the people transport their farm products. Before it the school was operational, the cildren used to walk 12 kilometers to and fro everyday to reach the nearest school. This resulted to in-attendance; most of them was skipping school and eventually stopped going to school.

In July of this year, Cadayunan Primary School allowed the residents of Besigan to have access to primary education. Currently the school has 60-80 primary pupils with 2 teachers. But since they have just started operating, the school is in dire need of learning materials and teaching materials for the students and teachers to effectively guide and teach these eager kids.

Each of the members of Cagayan de Oro Bloggers have committed to help through cash and in-kind donations. They are planning to donate books and other scholl materials that may be beneficial to the learning process of the pupils.

I have learned about this advocy from one of my blogger friends, Mommy Dharlz. Their objective is to donate books and other supplementary learning materials and to conduct a feeding activity there which is scheduled today, December 2. But we are not late yet. It is just the first because the CDOBloggers are planning to continuously reach out to the school.

The CDOBloggers are appealing for our support in this advocacy. If you wish to help or take part of this, you may emaill: cdobloggersinc@gmail.com. They are also accepting Paypal donations at: francis.siason@gmail.com. Whatever you may contribute, it will surely go a long way. This would also be a wonderful early Christmas gift for them too.

Christmas is just around the corner...Some of us have almost finished on our Christmas list…Some cargo boxes are already sealed and ready to be shipped to loved ones anytime…Some of us had already plan for “the event” – Christmas parties, family reunions, and others already booked for vacation

But Christmas is more than those –

It’s about sharing our blessings to the needy;It’s about giving love to our fellow to the best way we can;It’s about reaching out people and letting them feel that someone care and love them. This Christmas, let our distressed OFW “kababayans” feel our warmth love and care to them…

Share our blessings in any forms.Express our love by reaching out to them.

Once more, I am humbly knocking on your good heart to be with me in cooperation with SFC Qatar Social Ministry in reaching our distressed OFW kababayans who are now under the custody of OWWA. By sharing our blessings through giving we will be able to reach out people and let them feel the true spirit of Christmas.

I already started receiving some stuffs such as used clothes. As of now, we have 80 women kababayans who are under the custody of OWWA, who needs our help, support and love to fight their battle against abuse, trauma and threats they experienced from their employer.

Most of the things they needs are toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, sanitary napkins, towel, etc.). Any donations, in kind or in cash will be accepted.

Small things to us are big help for them. This Christmas Season let us put smiles to their face and warmth their heart with love.

Last November 17, 2011, I was invited to be one of the Plenary Speakers on National Youth Day at DBTC Festival Site. When I received the email invite last month, my first reaction was "Wow!" It's really an honor. This is one of God's purpose for me and I would LOVE to be His instruments and share the workssssss He has done on me. ♥

Touch of Ellehcar Outreach Program started in 2009 by the owner Rachelle Gregorio and some of her close friends. It's their way of giving back all the blessings they have received.

"I do believe that we were all created for a reason. We may have different views of our purpose in life, but in the end, we all agree that we are meant for something or someone in our life..
It has been my greatest deeds to share my blessings to other people. Mostly to people whom I don't know or people I haven't heard of. Early in life, I've learned that life is tough so I have to be tough. I experienced hardship along the way, countless trials and excruciating pains. I endured all of this with the help of people who cheered me up, guided me and lead me to the right direction to where I am right now. If not for them, my life should have ended on different path.
I knew that I have moral obligations to share the blessings that I have. Same what other people have done to me when I was in need through those difficult times in my life.
Now I am living on this principle of sharing my blessings. I may have not much monetary fund to share, but my knowledge and expertise can also be shared to others. It is only up to us how we are going to give back all the things that we have today for the benefit of those people that needed it most. Christmas is a time for celebrating with family and friends, enjoying good food and special treats, the joyous sounds of happy children exploring presents left beneath the tree. Yet, many children, right in our own community, will not know what most of us take for granted.

I’m not good in writing reviews but I say that it was well written because it was like I was transported to Sactae Mundus and Intero Regnum, two of the fictional places that the author of the book had created. The places were so beautifully described that I imagined and saw the vivid imagery on my mind. In addition, the characters in the story are very interesting, and their exchange of dialogues very entertaining.

The cover of the book may be dark in color, but the world inside it is so colorful -from the creatures, characters, settings, and the adventures. There are scary-looking creatures and also cute little creatures like the Button People, a mushroom with eyes, arm and legs, which I adore so much, and just like one of the characters in the story, I want to own one as my pet. Even though they are neglected because of their little existence, they still hold an important role for the existence of Intero Regnum. It’s a reminder for us that size does not matter, whether big or small, each one of us is equally important.

Here are some symptoms of Rett Syndrome:

• A girl with RTT is usually born healthy and shows a period of apparently normal or near normal development until 6-18 months.

• Intellectual development appears to be severely delayed, but true intelligence is difficult to measure.

• Her social development appears normal, and she may begin to use and understand language. Sometime between one and two years old, she experiences a regression of these skills.

• She loses the ability to pick up and hold things in her hands or to use her hands functionally

• She stops responding to the spoken word and stops using the few single words she has learned.

• When she is upset or scared, her body may tremble or shake.

• If she can walk, her legs are stiff and wide apart. She may walk on her toes. Other girls lose the ability to walk.

• Purposeful hand use is replaced by stereotypic hand movements such as hand clasping, clapping, hand-to-mouth movements or what has become the hallmark of Rett Syndrome, hand wringing.

• She may breathe differently, either holding her breath (apnea) or huffing and puffing (hyperventilation).

• Seizures and Scoliosis (curvature of the spine) are common

This is Hannah Marie Honor. She has Biliary Atresia and she needs our help. Attached is her mother's letter. Read on:

My name is Marie Angela De Luna Honor, mother of Hannah Marie D. Honor. She was born on born Feb. 26, 2009 is now 2 years old. On her 2nd month, she was diagnosed with "Biliary atresia", a liver disease characterized by the absence or closure of the bile ducts. On her 3rd month "Kasai" procedure was done on Hannah at the Philippines Children’s Medical Center [PCMC]; an operation that removes the damaged biliary ducts outside the liver. According to her doctor, this operation is not a cure but rather a temporary solution to give us some more time to find resources for the necessary funding of Hannah's liver transplant operation.

Unfortunately, although the Kasai was done, her liver continues to fail. Our doctor told us that there is no other option, but to have that much needed liver transplant ASAP. We really love our daughter and we are deeply worried about her health. Not only our emotions, but our respective jobs were greatly affected in this turmoil we are going through and having limited funds is an additional burden to us.

We are appealing for your utmost help so that our daughter could have that operation and be treated properly for her to have a greater chance of surviving. It will be conducted at Chung Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan - where there are enough facilities and a success rate of 97% based from the hundreds of liver transplants that were conducted there. We were asked to prepare Php3M which will include the medications, hospitalization, transportation, and lodging fees. Whereas compared to Medical City, liver transplant alone will cost Php4.5M. PLEASE HELP MY DAUGHTER to get her much needed liver transplant. We really financially incapacitated, our combined income is just enough to support our basic daily needs.
I beg you please help my daughter let her live longer and experience to live and see the world.

After the non-stop surgeries, therapies and medications, my battle with NF2 continues and I won't stop raising money to sustain my medical needs.

This October, I need to have my regular cranial CT scan to monitor my tumors. And also, I'll be having my MRI of the spine to check if there are tumors on my spinal column that's causing my immobility.

Both tests would cost us more or less P35,000. (The MRI of the spine costs P24K). We are not really short of money since I still have my savings, but still we can't let that savings be drained because we'll never know when I'll be needing it. Besides, that is where we get the money for my maintenance medicines like anti-seizure, antibiotic for my eyes, etc.

I also hope and wish and pray that the minor surgery that I badly wanted would finally push through in order to remove the tumor/schwanomma/bukol on my right foot. It's just a small mass, but it is really SMALL BUT TERRIBLE! Because the pain is so terrible every time it bump on to something or when I accidentally stomp my foot a bit hard. Super ouch!!! (times 10! Haha) And I don't want it to grow bigger anymore. Before, it's the same size as a monggo seed and it already was hurting. Now it's the same size as a green peas or ponkan seed (hear goes my food analogy again.. haha) and it hurts even more. :-/ I also hope that my mom could already find and hire a househelp since it's just the 2 of us here in the house most of the time since my siblings goes to shool and my dad is at work. My mom is also sick and she still takes care of me. Although I can manage to do some things on my own, she still has to do the household chores. What more if I'll have that foot surgery? It would cost another 20-30 thousand, but not now.

And I also want my mom to get better so I always tell her that she could get some money in my savings for her medications. Though most of the time, tinitipid niya pa rin ang sarili niya since her medicines are sooooo expensive. So she's still frugal on her self even though she really needs it because she's afraid she might use a lot from my medical funds.

There's so many things that I wish, hope & pray for and I know that with my faith and your help, it is definitely possible! ...one at a time. For now, CT Scan and MRI for me.

An amazing thing happened yesterday and then today:

The tumor on my right leg shrunk last year and it shrunk again! Wiiii!

From dalandan to big calamansi now it's the same size as a marble.. I massage my legs every time I watch whatever k-drama I'm watching.. I was so bored this evening because of there's nothing to do (typhoon+brownout), I massaged my legs because it was so cold. Huh? Where's my tumor? I blurted out, "Nawawala bukol ko!" Haha. I even asked Maro to help me search for it it.. Haha. "Ayun!" I was so surprised coz not only did it moved (it is an each lower), but it also shrunk. As in!

A few days ago, I was so sad because my right eye's vision became so blurred again.. As in almost blind! It really bothered me because my vision already improve and then it worsen again. Tsk.

I was praying and praying and praying and the next day, I wasn't that sad anymore. As always, I told myself, "What's the use of continuing to be sad. Keri na yung 1 day akong nagmumukmok." Haha. Though I'm still bothered and irritated. Eh naman kasi nakakainis! My mom and I would always say, "madumi lang ya.." Besides, I'm not using autologus serum or antibiotic for my eyes lately.. Madumi lang 'to.. Madumi lang 'to.. So my mom cleans it everyday w/ the eye gel.. It slightly improved. As in konti lang.. The last time I checked my vision was this afternoon while I was taking a bath.. I still don't recognized the shape of the 'tabo' but I can define its color..

Then few minutes ago, while I was playing Flower Paradise on my desktop, I wiped my left eye and then I saw this with my right eye:

I iblurted out, "Oh my God. Oh my God. Thank you." When my brother heard me, he immediately when to my side because he thought that something bad happened to me. I said, "Nakakakita na ko uli!" while pointing on my right eye.

Lord, you never never never fail to amaze me!

I recently underwent surgery on my left breast last August 2, 2011. The initial findings revealed that I have Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, Stage II-A, which will require me to undergo 20 chemotherapy sessions. Each session will cost me P52,782. I have already begun the first session on September 1, 2011 and the succeeding sessions will be 21 days after each cycles.

Children are gifts from God – blessing to parents and to their loved ones. Like us, who are blessings to our parents and if you are a parent surely you consider your children as blessing to your and your family.

Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.(Psalms 127:3-5 ESV)

Yesterday, I received an email from my cousin asking help for her friend. I was moved not only for the sick child but also for the parents to handle the kind of challenge in life they’re facing right now.
Baby Anya, is the youngest among two siblings of Daddy Wilfred and Mommy Ellaine. She was born healthy and no trace of any disorder on her system. Mommy Ellaine left Philippines and worked to Dubai for her children to give them a good future while Daddy Wilfred stayed in Philippines to take care Baby Anya and their eldest. After few months of working in Dubai, baby Anya was diagnosed of transposition of the great arteries at hole.

“Transposition of the great arteries (or TGA) is a condition whereby the two arteries from the heart are swapped, so that they end up the wrong way around. In other words, the main pumping chamber to the body (left ventricle) is connected to the blood vessel to the lungs (pulmonary artery) and the pumping chamber to the lungs (right ventricle) is connected to the blood vessel to the body (aorta), instead of vice versa.

This means that blue blood returning from the body, which should go to the lungs to receive oxygen and become pink, actually goes straight back to the body. Blood that has just returned from the lungs and is pink and which should get pumped to the body goes straight back to the lungs. This situation is obviously not compatible with life unless there is some mixing of these two circulations. This occurs at two places.

First, in every unborn baby there is a hole (patent foramen ovale or atrial septal defect) between the two collecting chambers (atria) of the heart. In a child with TGA, this allows some mixing to occur. Second, in the circulation of the unborn child, there is a pipe called the ductus arteriosus, which allows blood to pass from the lung circulation into the body circulation. This also allows mixing of blood in the transposition circulation. After birth, the hole and the duct tend to shut off. Keeping them open is the first step in the treatment of this condition”

As soon as baby Anya was detected to have transposition of great arteries, her Daddy Wilfred and even away her Mommy Ellaine do all the ways they know in order to treat her child. According to Mommy Ellaine, they tried to get slot to charity (PSCO). According to her doctor minimum of 700,000.00 PHP will be the cost of the operation if they will be in under private and maximum of 700,000.00 PHP if under charity. But just recently the doctor advised them that the operation must be conducted to baby Anya as soonest, so they decided to put baby Anya under a “semi-private” operation.

As Mommy Ellaine emailed “Asap ung binigay ng doc kasi ipinila nmin sya sa charity at para makagamit kmi ng pcso kasi iniadvice kmi ng doc na minimum 700 taw ung gastos pag private at maximum nmn ung 700 taw pag charity kaya sinubukan nmin sya ipila sa charity kay medyo tumagal then last day nagpacheck up uli sabi ng mga doc kung hihintayin pa ung line up nya baka abutin pa daw ng taon kaya ipapasok na nmin sya sa semi private kaya nid ko talaga ng big amount kasi pinag ddown kmi atleast half of that. next month sure na operation na kasi fit daw si baby at para ma avoid na din daw complication.”

As an OFW I personally know how much the operation will cost on their shoulder knowing that Mommy Ellaine is not earning that much as a receptionist. So aside from working hard and aside from the help of other people, they come up to a fund raising
