Sometimes, like every 50 years or so in the depths of Anatolia a minor weather event occurs. Originally called Kirkikindiler which means “40 afternoons” it’s a sure turn off for any sunny afternoon. A walk in the park or any other lovely plan may easily be ruined by this minor weather event as it gets dark and rainy without a seemingly reason. This may seem unpleasant for human beings but it’s a sure feast for the green pushing the concrete with the so bright sun afterwards. # 76 is for the crops that pushes the cold concrete.

#75 was mostly dug by Can with me contributing my mixing (more like ableton live) skills. That’s why his dandy style noticably takes over, as this is one fine 1 hour mix, for which you are obliged to be in your bathrobes or robe de chambres, comfortably sipping some brandy (or any other dandy drink). This mix goes through easy listening, jazz, exotica and old surf music, it definitely feels retro but not kitsch (i hope).

Here we are with #74 and the first thing you’ll notice is that the mix is uploaded to soundcloud. It looks better, plays better and you can leave comments on the timeline! So much gem unearthed by Can mostly this time, Nico Fidenco & Food of the Gods unbelievable stuff. Enjoy and leave feedback if you like it!

After two weeks of absence, we’re back with #73 of our shows, once again done in partnership with Can Ayverdi. The psychedelic folky opener is off Hannu’s latest Harhailua, and there’s also a Monsters at Work track off the fantastic Monsterism compilation by Pete Fowler which I hope to digest this week. The mid section has some great moments like the transition from Exile’s Love Line to Kenny Dorham’s My Ideal and then to Martin Denny’s unidentified piece (can anyone identify it?) . There’s an abundance of soulful and jazzy beats here, and after the last break #73 ends with some easy tempo and brasiliera. Have a nice week!

Let’s start the week with this weekend’s show, we’re not going to deny that we’re proud of this one and we’ll be continuing this direction with our shows for the time being. We’ve got two tracks from Karl-Heinz Schaefer’s Les Gants Blancs du Diable blaxploitation OST from 1972, mixed with contemporary minimal music from the Italian Giuseppe Ielasi and Mexican Fax. New stuff from Boozoo Bajou’s lovely Grains album, vintage music from Easy Tempo hero Piero Umiliani and harpist Dorothy Ashby whose music from the 60s are still fresh today. Hopes and Past Desires is off Rafael Anton Irisarri’s new vinyl on Immune and it signifies the start of the more electronic half, a selection of soulful beats & hiphop from Stacy Epps, Kaidi Tatham, Lukid who have been recently reviewed. Finally back to Easy Tempo with Gianni Oddi and we end by Dorothy Ashby’s take on the Sergio Mendes classic Reza.

With #71 for the first time in a few months we are synced with the actual radioshow. We’ve been doing the last shows together with Can Ayverdi / Cleansweep and this is no different. The first half of the show is mostly oldschool hiphop & beats the second part starts with Friedman & Liebezeit’s Sandale and transforms into electronica and nudisco.

#69 starts with a solemn piece from the German doomjazzers Bohren und der Club of Gore then goes right into some Easy Tempo and nujazz. “Working mood” from the late Byron Lee and Burning Spear’s Jordan River are two exquisite examples of jamaican soul/roots music, especially the former which is a stark contrast to what the man did afterwards (soca/dancehall). The last bit has some cosmic non-Fela afrobeat and Peruvian chicha by Juaneco. This particular song “Linda Nena” might be one of the best tunes that I’ve listened last year, ends with some space electro by Roland Bocquet.

Another joint show with Can Ayverdi/Cleansweep, you can realize the degree of soulfulness when you see the names Lee Hazlewood, Galt McDermot and Al Hirt in a row. There’s more to come though! Some of the highlights are brasiliera from Walter Wanderley and Charlie Rouse, more velvet soul from Bobby Womack and a cosmic ending with Build an Ark’s first effort.

#67 is the start of a 2 show series we’ve done with Can Ayverdi of cleansweep fame, in which we tried to cultivate this easygoing easy tempo sound. The second part starting from Bruno Nicolai is where we delve into deep Brasilian samba, 70’s Italian easy tempo, soundtracks, flavoured with world music from Africa and South America. In hindsight, there are a few non fitting pieces but what’s done is done and I still think it’s a worthwile listen if it’s just to listen to Radamés Gnattali’s Seu Ataulfo.
