As you already know, I joined the 30 Day Green Smoothie Challenge.  Honestly, I didn’t think I would make it past the first week, but – I am proud to say,  that I am on day 26 and am loving this new healthy life style. I figured out the things I like and the things I do not like. My key to success is adding a frozen banana to all my smoothies!

At the end of the week, I use what every fruits and vegetables I have remaining to make a healthy green juice.  Baby Naturelle helped me make my last juice – she’s such a helper!

This juice included: carrots, lettuce, honeydew, carrots, kale, spinach, grapes, celery, and cucumbers!

The best part of this juicing / smoothie thing is that I’ve been able to get everyone in the family to take part in this healthy habit!

I have been trying to edit this video for FOREVER!  Lil Naturelle came up with a great idea to do an introduction video and we wanted to run with it.  ”What happen was” – I could not edit the video.  Each time I tried – something went wrong with either converting the file, uploading the file, the audio, and the list goes on.  Any who, today is the day that the video is finally finished and I am so happy.  This 2 minute video is my Lil Naturelle introducing herself.  All these are her words, no scripting at all.  I did help her out with her focusing because she would have been talking for a good 30 minutes!

I have to tell you when my Lil Naturelle talks about her hair (you have to watch…) she made me a super proud mommy!  Hope you enjoy.

I am a believer in protective styling for my eldest daughter. Some reasons are:

• she’s super active, so styling her hair on a daily basis can become cumbersome
• plus she really hates dislikes when I comb her hair, or style her hair daily – she thinks it takes time away from her (go figure)

After some of the cute styles she’s been rocking these past few weeks, I thought I would try a more long term style – mini twists!!!!!! The style took about three hours – broken into two sittings (not bad at all since I plan on keeping this in her hair for about 4 weeks)

Tools Needed:  Rat Tail Comb, Detangler of choice (I used a denman brush), a moisturizer, and oil based product to seal the ends.

For this style, Ms A’s hair was already washed, deep conditioned, and blow dried.  I simply parted her hair into small sections and two- strand twisted her hair.

My goal for this style is to leave it in for at least 4 weeks.  I hope to come up with some cute versatile styles while she has these mini twist in.  I will still wash and condition her hair (without removing the twists).

I realized that spring is in the air but I never posted picture of Lil Naturelle in her winter fashion….so, here goes nothing!  This entire style – other than the boots are from Osh Kosh B’Gosh – which means I barely paid $35 for this entire outfit!  The boots are from Marshall’s – one of my favorite discount stores!

As you can tell from her facial expressions….Lil Naturelle was a little excited when taking these pictures.

Well, no great style can withstand a bad hairdo…so to compliment this adorable style, Lil Naturelle sported a Pinned Up Fohawk.  Stop by next week for a quick tutorial on this style.

Have you ever been tired of doing your hair week after week after week? Not really in the mood for a long-term protective style? Well, I’ve discovered something that worked amazing for me! I challenged myself to keep a twist out in for two weeks with low manipulation. The first step was to twist my hair with a styler I knew would have enough hold for two weeks. I chose Jane Carter’s Curl Defining Cream. After I twisted my hair I set it on satin covered rollers. The next day I removed the rollers and left the twists in a rolled position. I did not touch it at all.

To maintain this style, I lightly spritzed with oil and water and slept with a satin bonnet.

When I hit the one week mark I undid the twists, which gave me a cute, curly twist out that still had a lot of hold due to the Jane Carter Curl Defining Cream. I wore that for another week then proceeded to wash and deep condition as usual.

Pros

• I didn’t have to do my hair for two weeks!
• I could literally get up and go!

Cons

• After the two weeks was up, I found that I had some difficulty with detangling. Not much, but more than I usually would have.

Would I do it again?

Yes!

Happy Easter All!

Easter is a time for many things – but one things for sure, at least in my house is kids dress up!  This year, we really tried to keep things simple, but I wanted to make sure I shared our 2013 Easter hairstyles!

Here’s Lil Naturelle - a.k.a. Ms A.

Here hair was flat ironed (by her request).  She decided on a half up-do.

As for an outfit, originally she planned on wearing a dress given by her godmother – but we did not realize how much Ms A has grown – she literary grew out of her white dress shoes.  Plan B was to wear her dress from Isossy Children – and she werked it!  Let me know what you think…

Here’s Baby Naturelle – a.k.a. Ms S.

She did not want her hair done at all – so we kept things really simple with a high curly bun, decorated with a pink flower headband.

 Now Ms S’ outfit was courtesy of her grandparents…I loved the dress, and cardigan.  The shoes (which I did not take a picture of – bad mommy) were super adorable as well, they were a gift from her auntie (don’t you love family!)

I’ve done it – I’ve decided to join the bandwagon and go for the 30 day Green Smoothie Challenge.  Let me tell you – this is a big HUGE ENORMOUS leap of faith for me.  I never Ever EVER thought I would do something like this but the truth is, I think it’s about time I take charge and start doing something a little healthy for me.  Even though this challenge is 30 days, I plan to take it one day at a time.  Just for clarification, I’m not doing this to lose weight…my ultimate goal is to try and be a little healthier.

I think I’m pretty lucky because I am surrounded by some amazingly creative moms.  The hairstyles that they are able to duplicate or create on their kids are simply genius.  One of my favorite mommy stylist is @frecklesanonymous; her latest creation inspired me to immediately get my hands in Lil Naturelle’s hair.  The thing is…it wasn’t wash day, it wasn’t let’s do your hair day, it wasn’t anything special day…but I wanted to try this style….Look for yourself, tell me this isn’t the cutest style ever!

By the way, I would normally have tried it on myself, but I recently started my second loc journey…so no more play in your hair days (at least for a while).

Any who…I somehow managed to get Lil Naturelle cornered ( I must have bribed her with some TV time or something – since that’s pretty scarce in our house) to try this style.

Honestly, I think it came out just okay…..for a few reasons:

1. I should have waited and done this style on freshly washed and banded hair.
2. The banding would have elongated her hair and created a cleaner looking braid.
3. Instead of cornrowing the sides, I just did a mini flat twist (because I was in a rush).
4. I think I may have added too much hair toward the end of the dutch braid, thereby not causing a smooth and even dutch braid.

Well, lesson learned! Just because I see a must have hairstyle….it is okay to wait and prepare.

Hmmmm…Easter is around the corner…I might get to try it again then!

Some of the girls clothing…beautiful colors

On March 7th I had the pleasure of attending the Kids Spring Fashion Twitter Party sponsored by Baby Shopaholic, Tristin and Tyler, and So Family Online.  The twitter party was FUN!!!! Beyond belief actually…  I had fun not only interacting with other mommies who are interested in fashion for their children, but also I got to learn a lot about so many different children’s fashion brands.

What I liked most was that the fashion brands involved in this twitter party actually had “children’s clothing” – not clothing that came in children’s sizes. (yes, this is one of my pet peeves)

After the twitter party, I decided to do some research on my own and realized that one of the brands I feel head over heels for was Isossy Children and luckily they were having a blogger day event that weekend (things like this never happen to me!)  I literally changed all my plans to make sure I would be able to attend – even for just 20 minutes!

Well, low and behold I did get to the Blogger Day Event and it was great.  The event was in Brooklyn (my old stomping grounds) in a boutique hotel called Hotel le Bleu.  I had the opportunity to look at some of the great clothes Isossy Children offered (both boys and girls clothing) and better yet, got to meet the owner of the company, Amanda.

Well, let me be honest – after looking at Isossy Clothing – I wished I was a little girl again – the clothing was absolutely beautiful.  It wasn’t your typical United States kids fashion shop!  The colors were vibrant and fabric choices were stunningly attractive.  Here are some pictures of some of my favorite items!
