Some call it the first slasher. Others, the first form of a snuff film. Martin Scorsese says that Peeping Tom is "everything that can be said about filmmaking," and that it is a "shock to the system", a "lucid picture about the danger of making art," suggesting that the film explores the potential pitfalls and challenges inherent in the creative process. Yet, Peeping Tom was not well received when it was initially released in its home country of England. It didn't fair much better in the United States or anywhere else during that time either. We will dive into the history of a film that was released far too early for its audience but has, over the years, become recognized for it's importance and significance in not only the horror genre that we so love, but in cinema history as a whole.

We are always excited when a new quality vampire film hits theaters and that goes double for a film about Dracula! 1924's Nosferatu is without a doubt one of the most terrifying films ever made. It's Dracula done right! Much talk of that original film has spread throughout the years. So much so that Hollywood decided to cash in with Shadow of the Vampire (2000). It's a film within a film about the making of F. W. Murnau's Nosferatu; and  a premise of WHAT IF lead actor the infamous Max Schreck was in fact a real vampire.

It's that special time of year again. You know the time I'm talking about, right? When you and your loved ones gather around the Christmas tree with a cup of hot chocolate and sit around the old family fireplace. It's a time of merriment and of course, gift-giving. And on this episode, we will talk about one of our favourite topics: ZOMBIES! Travel back to the simple time that was 2,004. One morning you wake up, and the world has gone mad. To make matters worse, people are trying to devour the flesh off of your body, and that's just not cool! So what is one today? Head to the Winchester--er, I mean shopping mall, kick back, and wait for all this to blow over. It'll all be fine, right?! 

You know listeners, I miss the 1980s and 1990s. During this time anime was in your face with insane stories, spectacular characters, and over-the-top ultra-violence that is rarely seen in our modern era. Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll, and many others would define my anime fandom during this time. Anime just wasn't a really well-known thing back in then like it is today. Lily C.A.T. is perhaps not as spectacular as the original Vampire Hunter D, but it does pay a LOT of homage to great horror sci-fi films such as the Aliens franchise. It also most certainly takes elements from The Thing as well, and others too. In this episode, we will talk about this strange little-known sci-fi horror anime, the films that it was inspired by, and whether this is a classic OVA (original video animation) that you should go out of your way to see or just obscure anime trash. Happy Halloween from all of us here at UNH! We want to extend greetings and best wishes during this season that celebrates many of the things we cheerish most, horror and of course, candy. Last year, we took an in-depth look at the Scream trilogy as well as Scream 4 and 5. That doesn't feel like too long ago at all but yet here we are again talking about the famous Ghostface! But this time things are a bit different. We've moved from the West coast suburbs of  Woodsboro, California, to the East coast city of New York. Now, Scream has taken place in other places before, most notably Hollywood California. It is the year 2023 and we have prepared ourselves for Armageddon Terminator 2 style as A.I. has come to take over UNH and infact all of our listeners! OH GOD THE HUMANITY! Out in the middle of nowhere rocking a proper old man beard, we find that Burt has become a hermit. But the graboids have returned on a remote island to cause havoc. So, for a seventh time, Burt comes to the rescue. However, these graboids have been genetically enhanced making for even more trouble. Man, destiny is a bitch!

It's that time of year again. The time of year when you sit around with a cup of hot chocolate or eggnog and turn on holiday favourites like It's a Wonderful Life, Home Alone and... Trancers? Yes indeed! From the wonderful time that was the 80s comes an action film from the future that fans of Die Hard will no doubt appreciate! Meet Clint Eastwood--I mean, Jack Deth (they forgot the second a), a future trooper who likes to go diving where Las Angeles used to be. The future is Blade Runner bleak but a little more fun. If ol' Deth doesn't go back in time and stop the vile Whistler, he will eliminate the remaining counsel member's ancestors; causing them to have never existed in the first place! Holy Sci-Fi, Batman! There is a lot of fun to be had here in this 80s sci-fi/action/horror combo! Join Jason and Mark as they dive for ancient 8-track tapes in future LA and discover the true meaning of the holidays (pssst, it's great action movies).
