ACCREDITED COURSES IN UNN

Not all Schools in Nigeria has all its course of study accredited by the NUC. UNN is also not excepted. But in their case, most of the unaccredited courses in UNN newly formed departments that are generally not up to five years of establishment. We have obtained a list of courses that are not accredited by the NUC but are being studied in UNN.

Why are the courses studied when they are not accredited?

Well there is no way to access the efficacy of the relevance of the course if they were not studied in the first place. Meaning before NUC can accredit any course the course must first the studied and NUC looking at the progress so far as well as other factors involved, will then decide whether or not to accredit the course or not.

All the above mentions are tasks frequently carried out by students of the university of Nigeria. in this post I will be giving some tips on registration guide that will be helpful in fostering smooth accomplishment of each of the above process.

How are UNN Payments Made?

All UNN payments are made using the Remita platform. This can either be done in the bank or using a credit card. We have outlined some Tutorial of step by Step process on how to make payments using the Credit card

What are Service Charges?

Service charges are extra charges made by banks or other service providers, as fee for processing your payment. The charges are most time between N300 – N1500, depending on the process involved in completing the registration and platform Used. Hence if your school fees is N65,000, you may be required to make a service charge payment of N500, during the payment.

Registrations in UNN

This is a combined process that involves the generation of Invoice, making of payments, filling of form as well as printing of registration slip, receipt or both. Most times this registration process are quite confusing and requires close guidance in other that mistakes are eliminated. The UNN Gate team offers registration service at low cost. CATEGORIES OF STUDENTS IN UNN

There are thousands ways in which we can categorize students of the University of Nigeria. but for this post I will be categorizing them by Levels and Outlining some peculiar attributions to each categories.

FRESHERS

Freshers can also be referred to as Freshmen, 100Level Students or simply first years. These set of Student ate those who got admission into the University through JAMB (UTME). These set of students are most of the times new to the University Systems are usually seeking directions always especially for the first couple of weeks in the University. There is a usual perception that you can identify a fresher by his or her dressing. Well that might be true to an extent but not necessarily. It is at this level of study that most students make mistake, hence all freshers are usually advised to be very careful during their stay.

Some occasions schedules for Freshers are notably Matriculation, School wide orientation, Departmental Induction. sometimes Inductions by their various religious Groups and ethnic groups. Freshers are Usually required to carry out clearance after admission, and these require extra cost of paperwork and payments. Generally, Freshers have Higher School fees schedule compares to other Levels. Freshers not allowed to contest for leadership positions in UNN.

Returning Students (other Years)

This category is simply those who are neither freshers no Finalists. These set of students are between 200 Level, 300 level, and sometimes 400 or 500L (for 5 and 6years courses).. The School fees for this Level Sets ate usually the same i.e no increase from one level to another in a particular department. These Set are the Ones eligible to run for leadership positions in UNN.

Finalists

Finalist obviously are those in their Last Lap of Study. Final List is not Peculiar to a particular year as some Course of Study are 4, 5 or six years. Finalists are required to carry out an Undergraduate project. They will also carry out Final year clearance. Their school fees are relatively Low but when combined with their extra running cost of clearance, projects etc. they become high. In some faculties and departments, Finalists are allowed to occupy Leadership positions

External Students

These are set of students that are done with their final exams but are yet to graduate due to some reasons or the other.

Post-graduate Students

These are Students of the university of Nigeria who are degree holders and are pursuing higher certifications like pgd, MSc, Phd

ADDITIONAL RUNNING COST IN UNN

Aside the regular School fees (tuition), there are other expenses to be made by Students on campus. These expenses are seen as extra Running costs and are inevitable when considering the cost of earning a degree not only in UNN but in the Nigerian Institution. Estimations have been made that aside School fees extra Running cost for schooling in UNN may range from N300k – N500k per session.

Accommodation in UNN

Accommodation may range from about 15k – 150k per year depending on the type of accommodation ranging from School Hostel to Single room, single room self-contain or mini flat.

Dues and Levies in UNN

Dues may range from 2.5k – 12k depending on the Department involved and the type of due; Class due; departmental due; Faculty due etc.

Utility Bill in UNN

This section is not applicable to students Living in Hostels. However, for Students of campus the average amount for combined Water and Electricity bill for a year is about 17k – 20k

The amount spent on feeding by an average student around 200K

[CONFIRMED] SUPPLEMENTARY ADMISSION LIST FOR 2019/2020 SESSION

The University of Nigeria has released the Supplementary admission List for the 2018/2020 academic session.

The list publication which contains admission by Direct Entry, Admission by shopping (change of course) and Supplementary Admission by Merit is in four section covering admission in all faculties and schools and departments and units.

This list traditionally follows the earlier publication of the merit list and certainly preceeds at least one more admission list before the door of admission is closed for the 2019/2020 session.

The University of Nigeria Nsukka have released the long awaited academic calendar for the 2019/2020 academic session. This is following the resent serial update on resumption modalities such as Hostel accommodation modalities and School fees schedule.

Today in our society there is no doubt, the African community have been now and again seen to be Notoriously religious. Highlight the word 'Notorious'. We have seen situations where learnerd and we'll educated people, tend to get in and make sure this claim have no chance for dispute (if you know what I mean). It really baffles me as a student. And becomes more disturbing when you see these in the science and engineering areas. Of course not in there philosophy field (I trust them).

Before we step in, let me register this disclaimer : ...i am not against religion, I am a Christian and catholic to the core... So having said this, let me walk you through. First, my believe is that there should be limited to everything, especially sensitive things. The way students tend to take this religion thing in the school environment is quite alarming. Once its 4pm, you keep hearing kabashing in every free hall around school. Again, aside football the next thing that gives up-to 300unread messages in my class whatsapp group is religious arguments. It goes on and on. I published an article in the green engineering magazine in 2016 title: THE ENGINEERING STUDENTS : HIS CONTRIBUTION TO ENGINEERING IN NIGERIA. and I made a statement there "students are the ones to put in their whole strength in Research and discoveries". This of course is why you are in school and not to get over entangled with religion and all what not.

Who religion epp biko? ...i recently saw a picture on twitter comparing two nations, a hardworking and a praying nation. Of course you all have seen where and where our religiousness has positioned our dear nation.

JB's NUGGET: 4 ONLINE PLATFORMS FOR ANY CAREER STUDENT

Even though it is a known fact that the internet is has a very long history (1960s) and is not a really new development, we can as well agree to the fact that, the social media in the last one decade has made the internet space more useful.
With the emergence of smartphones, notebook PC, fast and lest sophisticated internet connections this reality of useful of the internet is more profound.

With Facebook which of course the leading platform in the social media space founded in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg, we have since seen the emergency of various other social media platforms notably; Six Degree(1997), LinkedIn(2003), Facebook(2004), Twitter(2006), Instagram(2010), MySpace(2005), Skype(2003) Google+ (2011). All these as well contribute more efficiently to the comfortable use of the internet.

Now for a career Student, there are definitely certain platforms that are very keen in your career life.
Note there are other online platforms for entertainment/Showbiz careers not listed here. There is another dedicated post on STUDENTS & SHOW BIZ yet to come on JBs Nugget, stay posted for that.
So here is our list for this particular topic;

4. Facebook
I will say this, first there is no way you want to discuss any topic that pertains to Social Media and not include Facebook. Again Facebook is the God of social media. (no jokes ...if you want to argue, slide into my DM) . So why should a career Student be on Facebook. Simple; Everyone, every is on Facebook. When I mean everyone I mean every institution, school, personality, group, that has a place on the internet space has a Facebook account. You want to be seen easily, you want to find companies and monitor their activities you have to go through Facebook. But I will say this "most official discussions are not done on the Facebook platform". Stay with us and you will understand that last statement.

3. Twitter
Well, in your career, which ever field you find yourself, there is need to be up to date on happenings around the world especially your immediate environment, to know how they affect your business, and the policies of your company. Let it be known that I, JB refer to twitter as the e-Newspaper. This social media platform is very important for those you no not really find the time to pick up the dailies at vendors. They can be rest assured that the top trending news, policies, Government pronouncements and all that affect every sphere of life is capture once they are online. Note that Government and Institution make official announcements on twitter and twitter is the official social media platform for organizations

JB's NUGGET: WHO CERTIFICATE EPP FOR 9JA

Couple of months back, we had the trending jingle; LAS LAS SCHOOL NA SCAM. Quite funny but honestly, I had no idea it was actually from a music by one of our so called 9ja musician. Recently, I got in a discussion about the labour market with a graduate of computer science. He made a statement, thus; They dont value our certificates here. Again, more often than not, students (Myself Inclusive) tend to focus attention on alternative to making money without depending on their certificates. These events got me thinking and led to the writing of this piece.

Truth be told the content of your certificate no really epp anybody o, while one of the the top respected lawyers in Nigeria, is a third-class graduate, the richest man in Africa did not get to where he is with the help of certificate.

If you advertise a job in a public space now and use the requirement; first class Honours. You will get a hall full of first class graduate. So how do you execute the selection exercise. What about 2/1 and 2/2 candidates who could not make it there, are they not good enough upstairs?
In the Engineering profession, the question; ‘what can you do' is very important because as engineering is the Application of principle of science, that process of application which is an art requires a level of skills and critical reasoning and not just a 5.0 GP on paper. Hence your intuition coefficient should always approach optimum level at all times.

We will not neglect the fact that a good grade will fetch a good job but if what is in your head does not complement what is in your certificate, the you will either not be able to move up from your position in the firm or will be totally disregarded, or at worst relieved of your duties. Yes, because you dont have much to offer. By then youll realize that your certificate no epp anybody.

Above all, let's face the fact o. In Nigeria it's all about who you know. If you posses the best grade and it is complemented with excellent skill, you still need a referral to get a great Job. Because someone with a lower grade/qualification might even fill that spot before you. This is not our making but it's how we met it. Therefore face the reality and keep your contacts close. This Is why in our subsequent Nugget, we will really explore the power of LinkedIn, and how to secure a spot or two out there even before you graduate. Your connections are very important.

People who depend on their certificate to make a breakthrough in the labour market are no doubt Job seeker. And people who make it big in the frontline with their inventions, innovation and creations did not do so with their certificate rather they are simply problem solvers who get aid for their solution.

Stay woke! Only what you have upstairs and the contacts you have can secure your seat at the table.

JB's NUGGET: Right use of the Social Media Space

Often a time, a good number of young people mismanage the social media atmosphere. It would be too extreme to say that they actually abuse the social space which is actually true for a certain percentage but lets just leave it at the former 'mismanage'.
To get a clearer picture of the whole discuss lets take the social media space as the life of an average individual. An individual has a sports, workout/exercise life, a religious life, a career/work life, a school life, a party life, the list goes on and on. And all these activities have their own separate base of operations and activities carried out, but by the same one individual. You dont go to the office and blast loud music form a huge speaker neither do you go to the church to do jumping jacks, 50 sit us and 70 push-ups. It trickles down even to as little as the different outfits put on to these aforementioned places/activities; they are of course different.

That is why in further series of this my nugget i will highlight the use of each social media platforms and the opportunities thereof. Before I wrap up, I would say this: some people restrict themselves to certain social media platforms and find opportunities there whereas the opportunity is in excess somewhere on another platform.

For phase II simply go to Jamb caps, check your admission status and Accept the admission.
Then push forward to print your admission letter from your jamb portal. (as you will be needing this document)

For Phase I, login to your students profile (unnportal.unn.edu.ng), on the left-hand side

Instructions to candidates applying for advertised courses

Eligible candidates are requested to visit the University of Nigeria website unn.edu.ng or portal unportal.edu.ng log in your JAMB Number to generate and download a payment invoice which contain a Remita number, the invoice will enable CLICK TO SEE LIST OF COURSES AVAILABLE you to make your payment at any commercial bank.
With the payment invoice, the candidate is requested to pay Ten Thousand Naira (10,000.00) Advert/Shopping processing fee. Ensure that the invoice Number is keyed in appropriately at the Bank and obtain a confirmation slip containing your Confirmation number and Invoice number.

NIN: A COMPULSORY REQUIREMENT FOR UTME REGISTRATION

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has advised candidates wishing to write the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to register with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to enable them obtain the National Identification Number (NIN).

The board said the NIN would be compulsory for UTME registration next year.

It insisted that only candidates with NIN would be allowed to sit for the examination next year.

JAMB said it would no longer capture the biometrics of candidates as information required by the board would be uploaded from the data captured by the NIMC for registration.

Its Head of Information, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, explained the board’s position on NIN in an interview on Wednesday in Abuja.

Benjamin said the NIN would guard against all forms of registration infractions.

He said: “Henceforth, the National Identification Number (NIN) would be compulsory for the UTME registration.
“All candidates desiring to register for the 2020 UTME, other JAMB processes, are urged to visit the nearest NIMC centre or its licensed agents for the NIN registration ahead of the UTME registration, if they have not done so.”
Dr. Benjamin stressed that candidates would be required to present their NIN at the point of registration.

He said the board has made arrangements with NIMC for candidates who do not have the NIN to be registered at the centre by NIMC or its licensed agents.

The JAMB spokesperson advised candidates who had registered and acquired the NIN before attaining the age of 16 to update their NIN registration status before proceeding for the UTME registration.

“If a candidate has NIN but has misplaced the number, he/she can retrieve the NIN by either going to any NIMC office/its licensed agents or dialling *346# (USSD Code) on the SIM number earlier used to register for the NIN and the NIN would be sent to the candidate.

“If he/she does not have the SIM number used for the NIN registration, such a candidate should visit the nearest NIMC centre or any of its licensed agents.
“Candidate’s name, as arranged on the NIMC data base, would be same on JAMB data after registration.

MOTIVATIONAL POST AND UNN POLITICS

One thing with Motivational posts is that their use is relative to the reader and his environment.

Some motivational post are not meant for Africans, some are not meant for Nigerians, the socio-political environment in Texas, Oklahoma or carlifornia is different for that in Ajegunle, Emene or Warri. And you cannot send the same motivational post to Aliko Dangote and Ude Emeka John of Engineeing UNN.

It is safe to say that only you can give yourself motivational post. As you need to consider many factors about yourself before you do.

If another must motivate you, it should not be by post, it should be by the life that person lives. If it must be by Post, then there should be rules as regards that motivation. Rules such as critical study of the post and appropriate consideration of same to suit your personality, your status, your environment, your policies. Afterwards you either implement it, keep it pending or delete it.

UNN Students politics is a big market place where you have this sort. Where office aspirants hide behind motivation, and litter everywhere with post with the sole aim of not only misinforming young lads, but perpetrating their agender of making themselves seem caring, meanwhile having ulterior Motives.

Some people are satisfied with they way they are. They don’t see a need to change, or may they just think they’re OK the way they are.
Some will even go so far as to say, “This is the way I’ve always been. I can’t change.” Can’t usually means won’t.
If you really want to change your life, then you need to ask yourself several questions. They answers you find will be your first step to changing your life into the life you’ve always wanted.

1. What do I really want?
Most think they know what they want, but if they really did, wouldn’t they have it? What is it you really want?
Once you ask yourself this, then ask yourself why you want it. Knowing why you want to something is as important as knowing what you want. This is your first step to getting the life you want.
Don’t be afraid to dream big. Think really hard, and then write down these things you want. Don’t edit yourself.

2. What do I need to do to change?
Some of us may have huge obstacles we need to overcome. In fact, your obstacles may be so high that you have to overcome your obstacles before you can start working on your goals.
This can be anything from losing someone we love (grief), or having something happen to us we need to let go of. It’s up to you to decide how you will do this. Maybe you need counseling, or you just need to talk to someone about issues you have in your life.
Do you need to seek counseling? Do you have something in your life you need to let go of so that you can be happy? Do whatever it is you need to do to clear up any issues you may have in your life.

3. What motivates me?
What really motivates you? If your dream is to have a lot of money, then ask yourself why. There is certainly nothing wrong with having a lot of money. As a proponent of the book, “The Science of Getting Rich”, I believe that we can do more and help others more if we have money.
My point is really this: everything you want must have a real purpose. If you want more money, or anything else, because, for example, you were picked on as a kid, or you had a tough life growing up, having more money won’t make your life better.
What motivates you must have a purpose. A good purpose. If you want to use the money to help other disadvantaged kids, or even your family, then this is a good purpose.
Hollywood is proof that having money is simply not enough. Your life has to have meaning and purpose.

4. Am I willing to do what it takes to succeed?
Are you willing to invest the time and effort into what you want?
Having a dream isn’t enough. You have to be willing to take the steps necessary to get ahead. Sometimes this involves sacrifice. However, a little sacrifice is worth it if you get what you really want in life and stop settling for what you have.

5. What steps do I need to take?
Once you’ve made a decision on what you want, what will you do to get it? Outline your steps. Maybe there are a few things you don’t know. Maybe there are a few things you will have to learn. Once you know what you want, then you need to take those steps.

ASUU TO LIKELY CALL OFF STRIKE AFTER THURSDAY

Following the resent activities of the Federal Government and the University staffs, it's evident that there is hope for Nigerian students to return to school any soon.

Recall that on Monday, the two parties had the first meeting that didn't end in deadlock since the commencement of the industrial action on November 4 2018.

Also the University staffs had also seek the opinion of the public at to calling off the strike or not.

They (ASUU) requested on Monday after the meeting with FG that they go Back to their members to return with a resolution on Thursday (tomorrow) as regards the strike.

UNN CONVOCATION WILL NOT HOLD; ASUU CHAIRMAN SAYS

The chairman of the UNN ASUU Branch have vowed that the Forth coming convocation of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka scheduled for 30th November 2018 will not hold unless the ongoing nationwide ASUU strike is suspended.

He made this statement at a press briefing done to update the public on the ongoing strike. He said, for the convocation to be successful the Deans, Head of departments and units and faculty officers are to present their graduating students to the vice chancellor, and this will not be possible since the aforementioned are part and parcel of the ongoing Nation wide strike.

He however added that, he has sent a message to the Vice chancellor; Ozumba Benjamin asking him to suspend every preparation towards the event due to the above reasons. Adding also that there will be serious sanction on every and any staff that sabotages this order. Reasons being that the strike is nation wide, total and comprehensive.

Graduating students are therefore advised to trend with caution while preparing for the convocation, particularly in terms of travelling and logistics surrounding their BIG DAY celebration.

However, as at the time of this post, the university administration have in contrast to the usual practice not published the list of graduating students. Also the official table of events is not yet published . these suggests that the order by the ASUU chairman may be effective.
