Power has been restored to about 200,000 homes across five states after an explosion shut off supplies from a NSW power station, the national grid operator says.

The weekly publication which is usually delivered on Saturday was delayed this week due to a printing problem and has started being delivered to Aberdeen residents over yesterday and will continue today.

In rugby union news

It was a disappointing round with only two local sides having a win.

Singletons first grade team were defeated by lake Macquarie by eight points singletons second grade team had more luck though defeating lake Macquarie by one point in a tight game

Singletons colt team was even better with defeating lake Macquarie by nine points.

The Muswellbrook heelers were beaten in their two games loosing southern lakes in first grade by five points and in second grade by sixteen points in the seniors.

And a disappointing game for the Merriwa bumblebees loosing east Maitland by thirty one points with Jeremy coward scoring all of the bumblebees points with a try and a goal.

The State Government is pleased with the Hunter valleys water levels,

Total storage levels in Glennies creek dam and lake Glenbawn are at seventy five percent whilst Lostock dam is at a remarkable full capacity.

This is a significant increase on last years total storage figure of fifty five percent.

Young people with technological skills are being targeted to help work on the singleton website project.

The project being coordinated by the singleton chamber of commerce is having a public meeting with community groups to explain the process and determine how much interest there is.

Gill Eason from the singleton chamber of commerce said it was an exciting project and it would provide a good opportunity for a young person.

A new website has been designed to celebrate thirty years of Muswellbrook shire council.

The old website has been completely overhauled and redesigned with council attempting to make it easier to navigate.

New features of the website will include an announcements section that relays community news and the new pet of the week page.

Vanessa Richards will address the meeting about the different services offered through home and community care,

The meeting will be held at Phillips brasserie on Thursday the ninth of July at eleven thirty

Businesses in singleton that have been nominated for an outstanding business award have been urged to get their questionnaires back.

Singletons outstanding business awards are being run by the chamber of commerce and all businesses nominated for an award were required to fill out a questionnaire form.

Ninety three businesses were nominated in this years awards and only a a quarter of the questionnaires have been received.

Another Hunter child has been isolated with suspected meningococcal disease.

So far this year there have been six confirmed cases in the Hunter New England Health region.

The child's close contacts have been prescribed clearance antibiotics. Health officials have maintained that there is no link between this case and any of the others.

Public health physician Dr David Durheim said that people need to be alert as were entering the to the period were historically most outbreaks occur.

Muswellbrook scouts group are calling for any body interested in joining an Aberdeen scout group to register their interest.

The group will use the information to determine wether or not an Aberdeen group is viable.

In Aussie rules another tough game to cats loosing on their away trip to the Tamworth kangaroos, s macadam again proved a tower up forward clipping under the Roos guard with two goals,

The singleton roosters have regained second spot on the ladder after smashing the warners bay bulldogs by ninety eight points.

The roosters led for most of the day in a close contest before surging ahead in the last quarter,

Coach Dave Stefani said his side was starting to get back to their best.

The upper hunter council is seeking sponsors for its young endeavour program.

The program which allows four youths every year to attend the exclusive program.

Is the program is supported by the community and council are looking to increase the sponsorship they raise to twenty thousand dollars.

Upper Hunter mayor Michael Johnsen urged businesses and groups to consider sponsorship to help improve a young persons ability to contribute positively in all walks of life

More money for local sporting groups will be the aim of an information session being run Muswellbrook council.

Council have invited over fifty representatives from local sporting groups to learn how to take the most advantage from grants available from the department of sports and recreation capital assistance program.

The group will be addressed by Peter Britt from the department who will outline how bets to obtain increased facilities and extra equipment .

The event is being held on Tuesday the seventh of July and is open to all.

Five mayors dinner to celeberate thirty years [2NM News]

Muswellbrook council is inviting residents to dine with its five mayors in celebration of thirty years since the amalgamation of Muswellbrook and Denman shires.

At the Muswellbrook race club on the evening of Saturday the fourth of July, a formal dinner will be held which will include all five former mayors John Jobling, Ian Wolfgang Ian Seymour john Colvin and the current mayor Martin Rush.

Tickets for the event cost sixty dollars and are available form muswellbrook council.

Mayor martin Rush said it would be a great evening with lots of room for nostalgia

Truck blocks highway [2NM News]

The new England highway was blocked for over an hour yesterday.

A b double truck was responsible for the blockage the vehicle had lost control and careened into a tree. At about twelve o clock yesterday afternoon.

The driver of the vehicle was hospitalised with minor cuts and bruises.
