I love summer. For me it’s always been a pretty carefree time in which: I go back to my home in Biarritz- the South of France, spend a bit of time in my hometown of Paris, squeeze lemon juice in my hair & go to the beach, go to a good old music festival and generally forget about my worries. This summer has started that exact way. I think it is a great time relax and think about the academic year that has just flown by and think about everything that has changed- and in my case, I feel like a lot has. But because this is a fashion blog, I am going to concentrate on my physical appearance and how a new look for me was in order. I previously had long chestnut coloured hair until a month ago when I decided to cut it to a blonde midlength style, with a fringe- being blonde alone has changed my way of dressing. I know feel like I can wear a lot of black without it being to depressing, but I also have to make sure that I do not look too cutesie and childish in what I wear- which is easily done with my colouring. So where am I going with this? Well basically I am going to talk about how different clothes suit different hair styles. Sorry for beating about the bush a little.

Motel Erica Dress – Black with Pink trim (£42)

Now, I would personally say that this sort of dress should be left to the quirkier girls or classy ladies, because as you can imagine this sort of revealing dress could look tacky with overly bleached or styled hair. Therefore I would either wear this dress if (like the model) I had long flowing, natural looking brown hair- mostly because it would impose less of a contrast with the dress, making it softer on the eye. In this case I would wear it with little or no jewelry. On the total opposite hand, I think this dress would also look good with a short pixie hair cut (any colour), for a bit of quirkyness, with some jewelry.

Motel Riley Dress – Black (£52)

For this dress, I am going to totally contradict what I said in the last paragraph. I think this (beautiful!) dress would look so much better on a girl with more volume in her hair and perhaps a bit more depth to the colour, or brightly coloured red or blond hair. I do not mean it should be dolled up a la Cheryl Cole- I basically mean some attitude is needed in the hair for this. Why? Simply because the dress is not plain, but because it is monochrome and black, it requires either amazing shoes, some jewelry and accessories, or a vibrant hair colour (short or long). (Blondes and Red Heads this is for you).

Motel Fay T – Night Sky Grey (£22)

This example I think is perfect. The top has a sort of relaxed, vintage feel, and I think it looks perfect with the model’s hair. The dark colour creates a pretty contrast with the grey tone of the top. I like how the top is perfectly relaxed, just like her unfussy hair. Beautiful.

So there you have it. What do you think? Do you think you should wear whatever you want and disregard hair styles, or do you think it is a vital part of your look? :]

If you are a little bit quirky or feel like making a bold statement, you might want to check out the rather ‘out-there’ CX London website. A lot of the clothing items and accessories are rather ravey or alternative, however if you’re more a glamorous girly girl, they also sell things like false eyelashes at prices much cheaper than you would find in most stores (ranging between £4 and £4.75). In terms of the layout of the website, it is incredibly simple to get around as the items are sold under different categories- For Her, For Him, (currently) Fathers Day Gifts (as an English student I feel the need to correct the misspelling on this- it should be Father’s Day, not Fathers! But that should not distract anyone too much from the actual content of the site…), (currently) Festival Gear, Gifts, (currently) England In June & Clearance.

You can choose from different currencies (US dollar, UK pound and the Euro). Returns can be made within 28 days of the purchase.

USA and World: 1-2 working days (FedEx, signature required) – £90.00

Overall, I would say that although the site is not entirely attractive in its design, the clothes are fairly different from what you would find in a normal high street clothes store, and a lot more original; also, the prices are very reasonable.

Here are a couple of the items I would recommend:

Wet Look Mini Skirt in Gold

Perfect for a night out if you don’t want to go for a boring old black skirt and fancy something a bit different! It’s selling for only £15 too.

Sunglasses 80s Robot White If It’s Hip It’s Here

WOWZA. No I am not mental, but I secretely love these. Most probably for fancy dress, yes, but that is what a lot of parties involve and considering it’s the summer which means festival season, I do not see why these would not be totally acceptable at somewhere like Bestival.

Sometimes a bit of a change is necessary, that does not necessarily mean sporting insane space eyewear (but sometimes it does!). Will you be making any changes to your style this summer? :]

For the last few years, along with practically everyone I know, I have been wearing bandeau and strapless bras under overly-revealing tops or dresses, because for some reason, a bandeau or strapless bra looks a lot less bra-showy than a normal, standard bra. Not only do they not create any unwanted, tacky cleavage, but they can look really pretty… These are two bras that I thought were really pretty when looking on the John Lewis website. I am so tired of normal looking bras and its always exciting to find something a bit different.

Gossard Ooh La La Longline Strapless Bra, Cream/Bisque

£34. Really pretty. The straps can be removed. The bra is underwired and the cups are padded. Could it be any more perfect? I don’t know what else to say apart from I WANT IT. It’s so pretty and feminine with the lace, and the fact that it is longer than a usual bra makes it more comfy and so much more stylish. I think this would look amazing under a simple vest with a plunging neck/arm lines, revealing this pretty bra! I really like that you can keep the straps on or remove them, depending on what you are wearing.

John Lewis Bella Strapless Bra, Red/Black

Was £35 Now £17.50….amazing price for a bra this pretty. Only in sizes 30B and 30D currently. I would wear this under a long, black dress with a plunging neckline and little jewelry (maybe a few chunky, vintage rings and a nice watch). I especially like the fact that this bra is red, it makes a nice change from the usual, whites, creams and black that strapless bras usually come in. The bow, the dots and the lace add nice details to this pretty bra.

I always too scared to wear strapless bras until a few years ago (after a school ball when I was 13 and my bra kept falling down- I had to spend pretty much the whole night in the restroom trying to fix it). But now that I have enough boob to wear them I couldn’t live without them, do you like them? :]

It may not seem like it yet… but we are supposed to be expecting some sort of ‘heat wave’ and if it ever comes, we should be at the ready with our new bikinis. So I am going to lay this out quite plainly- bikini’s are hard to wear, and yes they do all look different on different body shapes so you have to make sure you are looking for a particular type of bikini for your particular body shape. Here are some ideas for you…

For the blessed slim, petite girls- little bust, smallish hips, and all-in-all slim physique.

Do: Be aware that you can pretty much pull off any type of bikini, but some will be more flattering than others. Look for ruffles, little details, that make your bikini give you a bit of extra shape.

Do NOT: Go for a plain, monochrome bikini. You can do so much better than that! And also do not wear a bikini that will make you look too young (I’m talking baby pink with hearts on it…).

Smudge Spot Ruffle Bikini- Miss Selfridge

Price: £26.00

Colour: Assorted

Comes in sizes 6-16

80% Nylon,20% Elastane.

Machine washable.

Reasons for a slim petite girl to buy this:

The ruffle details will make you look a bit more curvy and make you feel feminine.

As well as enhancing your already amazing shape, the colour are flattering and summery.

£26 for a bikini is totally reasonable for a bikini as pretty as this!

For Busty, Curvy Girls- C Boobs +, hips, and a bit of a bottom!

Do: Go for something that will keep everything in place. A padded top half bikini is necessary!

Do NOT: Wear a strapless top- they do not give enough support.

White Floral Knot Front Bikini- Miss Selfridge

Skirts are probably one of the easiest things to pull on in the summer, as they can go over a bikini easily, you can wear them during the day and at night… but I guess you could say that for anything so in this post I will be talking about these specific skirts which I think are perfect for hot, summer weather- something I have truly, truly been looking forward to during this depressing, rainy exam period. I personally own about 20 skirts, in different colours and fabrics, ranging from red velvet to denim to a panelled leather skirt- but I would say some skirts are more versatile for different types of weather than others. Here are a couple of Mango skirts I would recommend…

Mango High-waist short flared skirt

This 100% cotton, blue spotty skirt is at £34.90, which I would say is a perfectly reasonable price for a skirt. Not too cheap that you might have suspicions about the level of quality and the ethical background of the skirt, but not so expensive that you think you are paying more than you should. It comes in sizes 4-14, and because it is high waisted and flared at the bottom, it is really flattering in terms of making your waist look small, and your legs look dainty- as well as hiding any extra tummy you might have!

DAY: Unlike the picture, during the day I would either team this top with a plain white shirt or a totally different print, such as zebra or maybe even leopard. This season it is totally okay to mix patterns and go a little crazy.

to…

NIGHT: At night time I could go a little more classy and team it with a sheer black blouse, with a black lace bandeau bra and some statement earrings with neutral or black coloured sandals.

Mango High-waist skirt with oversize patch pockets

This skirt is slightly more expensive at £39.90, and *shock horror* it’s made out of ORANGE LINEN. But somehow it works. Never been a fan of linen, but this looks so light and summery, I may be changing my opinion on it. Would it matter if this skirt was terribly creased? Nope. I actually think it would work really well in an ‘I-am-not-high-maintenance’ sort of way.

DAY: With a white tank top and some simple sandals I think this would be a great day look, especially with some cool black or tortoise shell, vintage sunglasses.

to…

NIGHT: Once again a plain or patterned blouse/shirt would look amazing with this! I would probably go for black although white would look cool as well. I would wear this with my hair up in a messy bun and a nice silky headband, with some green or purple wedges for a nice change.

See a link? I clearly think flared skirts are the way forward for the summer, nice and airy, and so easy to wear :]

You may have seen Boohoo advertised in magazines, on billboards, etc… but I think we have become trained to ignore advertising (as we probably should after all) but I think Boohoo is well worth having a look at. The clothes I am primarily interested in at the moment are the festival clothes now that summer is on its way. The prices are totally affordable, and although not everything on their website is amazing and you have to simmer through a lot of not-so-great clothes, there are some hidden gems! As it is an online retailer, you will find a lot of clothes that you would not be able to find in any stores- meaning there’s less chance of walking past another girl in the same outfit!

As for my top picks for hot summer evenings… here it goes:

Tracie Lace Detail Dress With Belt

First off we have this beautiful red dress. It comes in four different shades: red, pink, ivory and coral and is only £25 which is a lot cheaper than you would find a dress like this at any of the main popular high street retail stores. I prefer the red, which is why I am featuring this specific colour, however I do think the ivory is also very pretty and dainty looking. It has a lace detail above the chest area and on the hem of the dress. I would wear this with sandals during the day and with pixie boots/barefoot at night on the beach! Add a couple of chunky rings and you are sorted. It comes in sizes 8-16.

Ava Chambray 50′s Skater Skirt

Now I have always had a slight problem with girls who see clothes in a shop and say: ‘Oh that’s so cute’, but when I saw this what did I immediately thing? ‘Cute!’. I am slightly disappointed with myself for this but that is the only way to describe this 50′s voluptuous skirt. It just looks so simple and versatile and would look amazing with so many different tops: vest, blouse, t-shirt, tank-top… I like how girly it is without trying too hard. I would personally add some dark leather, worn in boots to this look for a nice girly/tough-girl contrast and then some wedges when I feel being a bit more feminine. It is only £18 and comes in sizes 8-14.

Anna Sunflower Print Button Collar Neck Detail Cotton Dress

At £20, this is pretty much as expensive as it gets at Boohoo, yet it is so cheap! I love the print on this dress, it totally epitomizes summer with the yellow and greens and flowers all over it. It can be dressed up or down as much as you wish. I would see myself wearing it with brown/camel sandals during the day and heels at night.

Jenny Racer Back Jersey Maxi

And for the maxi-dress loving girls, here we have a £15 dress that comes in 6 different colours- at this sort of price I would wholly recommend buying a few considering they are so cheap! My two favourites are the coral and the orange but it also comes in blue, cobalt, jade and yellow. It is a race back, floor length dress with no other details that this, so I would suggest wearing necklaces/bracelets and loads of rings, as well as either a tied shirt or a belt to add a bit of interest to this simple, elegant and oh-so-versatile dress.

What will you girls be wearing this summer? :]

xxx

More from Boohoo…

Summer weather finally seems to be settling in, and I don’t know about you guys but I am getting pretty excited about being able to go outside without a scarf and coat! Unfortunately it is exam season for a lot of us, but this means whenever it gets too much and we just fancy a break, we don’t even have to wander to the shops anymore for some retail therapy thanks to the wonderful invention of… online shopping. What would we do without it? I don’t know about you guys but summer has always been my favourite season for amazing clothes and at this time of year it’s all about the accessories :]

As the nights are warming up, it is so much easier to dress appropriately for a night out when you don’t have to think about bringing a jumper, a coat, tights… Here are some summer nights ideas from me!

Sodamix navy crochet border dress

This cute little summer dress from BHS is at £25 BUT currently has 20% off, so you could get this simple little number for just £20! I really like the white crochet detail on the hem of the dress and on the sleeves, they truly make the dress. This navy dress tucks in at the waist- always flattering. I like the fact that this dress is navy, a nice change from black, and a bit less wintery! This would look really cute with a pair of mocassins during the day, and light coloured wedges at night. There is nothing wrong with keeping things unfussy and simple, so all I would add to this is a couple of simple bracelets on one wrist and an amazing, vintage ring.

Leopard print headband

I have actually been looking for a leopard print headband for months. This is only £5 and currently has 30% off, so it doesn’t get any cheaper than this! It also comes in zebra print. This would look cool with worn in denim shorts and a plain white top and plenty bracelets and rings for a perfect festival look. (Of course you will want messy, bed-hair hair to go with the animalistic nature of this headband…)

Jasmine cream short sleeve peter pan dress

Nothing says summer like a short white dress, and this one is right up my street with the dark peter pan collar, all you need with this is an amazing pair of black, chunky heels or dark coloured mocassins. It was £30 and is now reduced to £19.95 with a further 20% off! It is so simple, but it works so well.

What will you be wearing this summer? :]

xxxx

A couple of years ago I came accross this brand in a Motel shop when I was living in Bristol. My first impressions were that the clothes looked: vintage, nostalgic, fashionable and yet totally wearable. So many of the items of clothing are vintage inspired in one way or another, whether it be the print or the actual style itself, however it is always easy-to-wear, bang on trend stuff which is why the brand has become so popular over the last few years. The reason why I think this shop is amazing online is because the discounts are generous and there are plenty of them! Also, delivery is free, meaning that shopping online at Motel Rocks is usually cheaper than going into an actual store itself, as well as less of a hassle. The website also has it’s own blog, demonstrating how up-to-date and fashion aware the site is. This website has an amazing range of clothes, mostly famed for it’s bodycon dresses and amazing shoes (they even sell Jeffrey Campbell shoes at reasonable prices!). I have been a massive fan of this brand for a few years now and have made several purchases myself. I highly recommend it so check it out!

Here are a couple of my favourite pieces:

Motel Celia Dress – Bleach Black

At just £32 with that sort of back detail and amazing print, need I say anymore? Paired with Jeffrey Campbell wedges this would look amazing on a night out.

Motel Tilly Crop Tee in Black and Pink Stripe

This fuscia pink and black stripe top is made from a light material, so it is perfect for those warm summer nights. It would look amazing with skinny jeans, shorts or a black skirt and would look amazing with any shoes! Tops like this are staples and so versatile.

What do you think of these vintage inspired looks?

Everyone knows that wedges are easier to walk in than heels, and in my opinion they usually look a lot nicer as they do not suffer from heel breakage and the general wear and tear you see on heels which makes them look cheap after a certain amount of time. Not only are they so much more comfy, but they are a lot easier to take from daytime to night-time and they are so summery I have been asked so many times by various people ‘How many pairs of shoes do you own?!’ because there is nothing like a good pair of shoes to spice up an outfit and well….although I do not want to give in to the stereotype, I am female after all.

Here are my favourites online:

Mia Black Nubuck Peeptoe Cork Effect Wedge Heels

At £35 these shoes from Boohoo are practically a bargain and because they are so simple and black, they could go with anything. A nice chunky heel is always a good thing in my book, it prevents sore ankle injuries and makes shapely calves look that little bit slimmer! I particularly like the cork platform on these, it looks more modern than plain old wood. Although these would look lovely with bare legs, I also think with thick black tights they would look cool with a bright coloured skirt or dress.

However if you do not feel like black in summery enough…check them out in camel! Very tempted to buy these myself.

Tasha Tan Wooden Wedge Shoe Boots

If you’re daring and fancy a higher heel (14cm in fact) these £30 wedges from Boohoo are the perfect slip ons. The neutral colour add length to bare legs and is a nice change from black. They are also not too summery so you could continue wearing these through the seasons. Mind you, I would not attempt these on snowy ground… I would pair these with black leather (but preferably pleather!) shorts and a white blouse or with a long, fitted black dress on a night out and simple jewelry.

Persuaded? Or are you too attached to your trusty black heels? Let me know what you think :]

Lets be honest… you can never have too many party dresses and with this voucher code you do not need to spend a lot of money to get the perfect one and look amazing this Spring season. All you need to do is use the voucher code ‘EASTERTREAT’ and spend £60 to get £10 off. Lipsy has a wide choice of dresses for different occasions as well as other types of clothing and accessories. It has long been a favourite amongst teenagers and young women, due to the ammount of different brands and the diversity of style and price.

At school I remember whenever a special event or a birthday was coming up, the girls would always be straight on the Lipsy website to find the perfect dress. If you want something over-the-top and glitzy, you’ll find it there, but if you’re more of an introvert, there’s also something for you too as they sell a lot of more simple, classy styles as well. Although Lipsy does not wholly concentrate on trends, because a lot of the dresses are the sorts you will be able to wear time and time again (which is fashionable in itself considering it is better for the environment rather than throw away pieces!), you can also find more fashionable items. All in all- there is something here for everyone!

VISIT LIPSY

Here are a few of their clothing pieces:
